Any update on this bug for the USB wifi Dongle?
I am running wheezy and installed the driver from wheezy-backports and 
neither works.

It appears on lsusb

Bug#726398: StarTech USB150WN1X1 also USB 0bda:8179 works with Driver on supplied CD

I have a dongle with the same USB ID and the wheezy backport (43) did 
not work but

if I compile the driver supplied by StarTech it does work.

The source is in 
Rtl8188EUS_rtl8189ES_linux_v4.1.5_7309_patched_20130515.tar.gz


I can provide some additional help, if needed.

I am hoping it is just a no-brainer for the current maintainer... :)
