Ben, thanks for the astute reply.

Yes, with the auxiliary power adapter connected, the 
Belkin Cardbus-USB adapter works with the USB-Ethernet 
adapter, the mouse and the Altec-Lansing headset.
The headset uses a C-Media USB adapter.  My mistake 
was to assume that low power devices don't require 
the auxiliary power.

Also USB on the OrangeCombo USB 2.0/FireWire for 
Notebooks works just as well.  I didn't test Firewire 
on that.

Is there any possibility for the software to detect 
the inadequate power supply and give a more indicative 
report?
