Bug#454604: linux-2.6: Xen kernel packages for 2.6.22

I am a new subscriber and have been following the BUGS. 

I also am very confused and upset with how Debian development and bug 
efforts regarding XEN seem to be avoided. I have followed XEN 
development and bugs since the onset and attempted in vain to create any 
interest in the debian-user list.  At the time ETCH was released I spoke 
to an individual in Xen development who was also concerned and he said 
he would pressure release people in Debian to make some kind of special 
allowance to add XEN into the ETCH distribution -- apparently he was 
successful but there appears to be little effort to go further (to 
incorporate changes and bugs) because of the way the release mechanism 
works for Debian releases.  So it appears -- until the next official 
Debian release -- there will be no more changes. 

There has to be a way to be a way of handling the situation for projects 
external to Debian but need to be part of Debian. I suggest possibly 
something like an unofficial release overlay such that these special 
releases get utilized into the distribution but have no official 
sanction -- which I think Ubuntu has essentially done. Ubuntu has 
sufficient independence from Debian that it can deal with these kind of 
issues it's own way.  Debian should also have that kind of flexibility 
but in a way that does not disrupt Debian releases. With all the 
brilliant Debian developers, maintainers, and people with experience I 
can not see how this kind of situation can persist.

Stephen Frost pointed out that Ubuntu has Xen support for 2.6.22 in gutsy. 
There don't yet appear to be kernel images for 2.6.23 or better in hardy.

I'm sure that Ubuntu or fedoraa is probably already doing some work to
get it ported (iif has not done it already) to 2.6.23. I think it
would be worth to take a look there and see if they have it done.

maks, could you apply it if we manage to find a patch for 2.6.23?

It doesn't change the bug regarting the regression about the features
when comparing with etch kernel. ;-)

until now this bug report has only hot air, aka useless.
yes there exist other that moan about xen.
bug upstream or test a patch that is worthwile.

Ok then, so then consider this a request to have 2.6.23 kernel images that
work with the Xen packages in unstable.  Right now it's pretty pointless
to have Xen in unstable at all if the user and kernel spaces don't work
with each other or aren't available.

I disagree that it's a pointless bug report.
It was a feature that existed in etch that is no longer available in lenny -
in my mind, a bug, if not an urgent one.

This bug report should at least remain open for tracking when Xen support
is available again.  Debian can't be the only Linux distribution out there
trying to get Xen working on the latest kernels properly...

your question is quite out of date, unstable has 2.6.23.

so you'd need to point us to it,
also quite pointless as bug report, ask on ml.
