Once a job is fouled up, anything done to improve it makes it worse.

macvtap has been merged in 2.6.34:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=20d29d7a916a47bf533b5709437fe735b6b5b79e

Wrong URL, the right patches are:

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network/150419/focus=150661

and they have been merged in net-next-2.6 so maybe they can be pulled
sooner?

macvtap allows simpler and more efficient host network configurations
for kvm guests.

(The patch is not yet upstream but it is expected to be merged as soon
as the next merge window is opened. If you want to wait then the bug can
serve as a reminder.)
