Ping. Do you still have access to this machine to run tests?

Sorry for the trouble,
Jonathan

Bug#597817: base: Realtek RTL8111/8168B doesn't always work

2011-12-24 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi,

Aniruddha wrote:

Every other boot I don't have internet access, eth0 doesn't get an
ip address assigned from the dhcp server. ifdown eth0 / ifup eth0
 doens't work either.

When I reboot everything works again. I have installed several
distro's on this pc which didn't have this problems. I think the
problem is with my Realtek network card.

 lspci | grep Eth
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B
PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03)

Sorry for the slow response. Quick questions:

 - Please provide output from

reportbug --template linux-image-$(uname -r)

so we can get to know your hardware better.

 - Is this reproducible with current kernels from squeeze?
If not, we can declare victory.

 - Is this reproducible with current kernels from sid or
experimental? The only packages that should be needed from
outside squeeze in order to test aside from the kernel image
   itself are linux-base and initramfs-tools.

If 3.x.y kernels don't reproduce the bug, please try a few versions
halfway between from http://snapshot.debian.org/ so we can narrow
down when it was fixed and try applying the same fix to squeeze.

If they do, the next step will be to get help from upstream.

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan
