Porqué un camino en Italia? San Francisco y San Antonio, el Seráfico fundador y el Docto Apóstol (meo episcopus) de la orden franciscana, son dos figuras inconmensurables que han puesto en marcha un perpetuo motor de espiritualidad humilde y simple, una fuente inextinguible para todos los que sufren de aridez existencial. Aparentemente el objetivo del peregrino es caminar hacia Asís, pero en realidad avanza dentro de sí mismo para unirse al divino oculto en El. El Camino de Asís no es una peregrinación construida, ordenada, como se podría pensar, sino que es la concatenación de los tantos peregrinajes tradicionales que ya existían en el ámbito local (Asís, La Verna, La Casella, Cerbaiolo, Montecasale, Montepaolo) ligados a peculiares devociones y que revividos en esta dimensión darán un relanzamiento a la búsqueda interior, reviviendo hoy la esencia de la doctrina de Francesco; también para que no sean solamente las antiguas piedras las que den testimonio al forastero de Su Magisterio, sino que se renueve a la largo del Camino y en la misma comunidad de Asís la original fraternidad franciscana. La ciudad de Asís será elevada a Punto de Convergencia Universal por los hombres de buena voluntad, superando así cualquier distinción de Cultura y de Creencias en coherencia con los Principios Fundadores de cada Verdadera Religión. These ways are linked to peculiar devotions and, lived in this spiritual dimension again, will give a new surge to the interior research, renewing the essence of Franciscos doctrine.
