In addition to what as been answered, one plea:

Please make your IoT gadget secure and provide security updates of its
software to your customers.

As on what is the issue with most devices and how important it is to make IoT
devices secure, read, for example:

https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2017/02/security_and_th.html

Making IoT devices secure unfortunately is no legal requirement yet, but it is
a moral, ethical one.

Thanks,

A fairly good introduction to Free Software licensing is available here:

https://www.debian.org/intro/free

The FAQ Walter Landry sent a link to is good too.

Since you are going to distribute Debian to users, and Debian includes
a lot of copyleft-licensed software, you might be interested in this
guide to GPL license compliance:

http://compliance.guide/

This section offers an example of a product that meets the GPL requirements:

Some more background on copyleft is available here:

This is perfectly acceptable to do.

If you intend to also show the Debian logo, please note our trademark policy:

If appropriate, I would encourage you to release this under a Free
Software license and have your developers package it for Debian.

The Debian project does not sell any licenses.

One thing I can say for certain is that Debian does not sell licenses.
For your other questions, this page may be helpful.

Do i need to purchase any License

2017-07-17 Thread ardavan izadi
Hi,

I would like to use Debian on a single board computer for commercial use.
We’re going to produce an IoT gadget and eventually sell to the market.

What we need to do is to:
Change the log screen during booting and display our logo
Run our custom software (written in Python & C) instead of OS desktop
environment

I’m not sure about Debian licensing and don’t understand very well as it’s long
and confusing to me.

Do I need to purchase any license for my product from Debian?
Please assist me.

Best Regards,
Ardawan
