No. The logic to contact the author of non-free software to change the
license is perfectly fine. It was done several times successfully and
you will find example e-mails as CC to this list in the archive (in
March this year are several). Saying this I would like to recommend
explicitely to CC the mailing list if you contact the author.

I was just asking because your intend was not clear from the content of
the task file.

Kind regards

there as a place-holder and then email the gentlemen if they are
willing to release the source or give permission to distribute it in

I wonder why you added trf if

   License: binary only (non-free)

Seems to be non-distributable anyway - so why should it be added to the
list?

Re: Is there a wiki I can keep notes for applications I install/package?

2011-04-23 Thread George Marselis
hm I think I owe you guys an explanation: When I log in for the first
time in any computer system, the very first thing I do, is drop my ssh
key in to the authorized_keys file. So, I was surprised, when I tried
to log into alioth and was greeted by the Password: prompt. and it
just dawned on me that svn.debian.org == alioth.debian.org . So, I
apologize for looking, again, like a complete dummy.

I just edited the bio and bio-ngs files, and posted them up. please
check to see if i made any mistakes.

added:

SNAP, repeatmasker, trf, augustus, mugsy, apollo, chado, eHive, ECHO,
ANNOVAR, CMap, GBrowse_syn, JBrowse, Trupal

Thank you very much.

Uhmmm, no. You have promissed to update the tasks file for about 5 new
programs. Just do this now after somebody else did your work. :-)

... and always watch

closely whether your work is just done, right. :-)

Hi George,

regarding GMOD: I hope you just realised that one part "The GMOD
Generic Genome Browser" gbrowse is now packaged and available in
Debian unstable.

  Andreas.

I do. Less for packaging than for a first success story with a package.
See for instance euca2ools.

If you want to do documentation of your Debian *packaging* effort
I'd suggest

http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMed/GMOD

(or something like this). However, I do not remember that we really
used the Wiki for such stuff. Committing your code in SVN or Git
was usually sufficient. If you want to add some generally visible
remarks for non-packagers you can add a "Remark" field in the tasks
file.

Kind regards

 Andreas.

Hey guys,

I am working on GMOD ( http://gmod.org/wiki/Main_Page ). As you can
see for yourselves, that page was not created with a technical guy in
mind. I need to make a summary of that page. I was wondering where I
should put it. Is the Debian Wiki an acceptable solution?

Thank you,
