Oh, and could you please not put the word 'pharmacy' in the subject? I
see I fed the original mail to 'learn as spam', and did the same with

RFS: irrtoolset and/or flare

2004-09-29 Thread George Danchev
Hello,

1) Package name : irr-tools
RTP: #189359
Version : 4.8.2
Upstream Author : Internet Routing Registry Toolset Project
* URL : http://www.ripe.net/ripencc/pub-services/db/irrtoolset/index.html
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/tools/IRRToolSet/IRRToolSet-4.8.2/IRRToolSet-4.8.2.tar.gz
* License : Unknown for now, RTP claims it is BSD-ish.
Description : IRRToolSet is a suite of policy analysis tools to operate with
routing policies in RPSL [RFC 2622] format, registered in Internet Routing
Registry(IRR). The main goal of the project is to make routing information
more convenient and useful for network engineers, by providing tools for
automated router configuration, routing policies analysis, and maintenance.
Preliminary package: ftp://ftp.logos-bg.net/debian/

2) Package name : flare
Version: 20040804
Upstream Author: Berke Durak
* URL :  http://abaababa.ouvaton.org/ara/
http://abaababa.ouvaton.org/ara/flare-20040804.tar.gz
* License: GPL
Description : Flare is an experimental GTK2 interface for ara. In fact it
does what ara does (already in debian archive), but does not depend on it. It
has now much improved syntax. You can specify a default search field pattern
for a group of expressions (which is by default and quite conveniently,
"Description"). For example it is now possible to type :

section=utils and (backup* or archive or /cop\(y\|ies\)/iw) and depends:
(xlibs or /gnome/ or *gtk)

instead of

section=utils & (/\bbackup.*/ | /archive/iw | /cop\(y\|ies\)/iw) &
(depends=~/xlibs/ | depends=~/gnome/ | depends=~/.*gtk/iw)

Please note that Flare is in a quite experimental stage. However it is really
useful right now, and as Debian still lacks a good and fast (ara lacking a
GUI or a proper CLI reloads the database at every invocation and so is dog
slow) sophisticated search tool so I thought I'd share it.
Preliminary package: ftp://ftp.logos-bg.net/debian/

3) Package Issues:
* Sorry, for the lame question, but I can not figure out of how to split the
diff.gz file out of the tarball files. Have to resolve that. Any help will be
attended.
* The first one (irr-tools) is rather complicated for me, an not so familiar
with the Routing Registry stuff. Will see how to handle it.

Help: Packaging Error

2004-09-29 Thread Ben Hill
Hi,

Apologies if I'm being lame, this is my first Debian package.

I'm running lintian -i to check my built package, but I'm getting the
error:

 binary-without-manpage

The software does not come with a manpage, but I've edited the
{app}/debian/manpage.1.ex file adding in the content, then renamed it
manpage.1.

What am I missing?

Cheers,

Ben

Did you also modify debian/rules file to include this file?

Change:

# dh_installman

To:

dh_installman debian/manpage.1

Also change the name of the manpage to the .1

If your rules include a call of dh_installman, then a file called
.manpages is missing. The content of this file is the
location of the manpages: e.g.

debian/binary1.1
debian/binary2.8

and so on. Or use dh_installman with parameters. See man dh_installman.

Common source of error is a missnamed orig.tar.gz, watch for dashes and
underscores.

It happens because the md5sum of the signed .dsc has to be included in
the .changes, so two separate gpg runs are required.

Alexandre, Colin,
Thank you very much for your explantions. Now I know what is going on.
I really tried hard to find out why gpg is ran twice, but got lost in the perl
sources of debuild.

P.S. wo, the help provided here is really fast and highly qualified.

If I were you, I'd just put the packages you create on the upstream site
and add a note saying you're looking for a sponsor for the packages.
That way, users will be able to download the packages, and if an
interested developer finds them, the packages should find an easy path
into Debian.

I don't think it's worth trying to force the package into Debian if you
can't easily find a sponsor. There's a general feeling with developers
that Debian is already far too big and there are too many packages that
are of very little interest. The testing release managers, of whom
Steve is one, probably especially feel this way since the bigger Debian
is, the more they have to get it released.

* URL : http://www.ripe.net/ripencc/pub-services/db/irrtoolset/index.html
ftp://ftp.ripe.net/tools/IRRToolSet/IRRToolSet-4.8.2/IRRToolSet-4.8.2.tar.gz

* URL :  http://abaababa.ouvaton.org/ara/
http://abaababa.ouvaton.org/ara/flare-20040804.tar.gz
* License: GPL

(xlibs or /gnome/ or *gtk)

instead of

section=utils & (/\bbackup.*/ | /archive/iw | /cop\(y\|ies\)/iw) &

Will see how to handle it.

for example, because all non upstream source lines become included in the

Help: Packaging Error

2004-09-29 Thread Ben Hill
Hi,

Apologies if I'm being lame, this is my first Debian package.

I'm running lintian -i to check my built package, but I'm getting the
error:

 binary-without-manpage

The software does not come with a manpage, but I've edited the
{app}/debian/manpage.1.ex file adding in the content, then renamed it
manpage.1.

What am I missing?

Cheers,

Ben

Did you also modify debian/rules file to include this file?

Change:

# dh_installman

To:

dh_installman debian/manpage.1

Also change the name of the manpage to the .1

I have two probs using debuid, which I can not resolve from the sections of
devscripts.conf:
 * I do not figure out why diff.gz file in not produced, but the tar.gz file

 * I am always asked twice to provide my passphrase when signing the .dsc and

If your rules include a call of dh_installman, then a file called
.manpages is missing. The content of this file is the
location of the manpages: e.g.

debian/binary1.1
debian/binary2.8

and so on. Or use dh_installman with parameters. See man dh_installman.

Common source of error is a missnamed orig.tar.gz, watch for dashes and
underscores.

I think this is normal (but if someone has a way around this, I'm

It happens because the md5sum of the signed .dsc has to be included in
the .changes, so two separate gpg runs are required.

Alexandre, Colin,
Thank you very much for your explantions. Now I know what is going on.
I really tried hard to find out why gpg is ran twice, but got lost in the perl
sources of debuild.

P.S. wo, the help provided here is really fast and highly qualified.
I like that feature of Debian.
