Seconded. Definitely seconded. But many people seem to think that
revision "-1" needs to be the first revision to go into Debian. That makes
sponsoring hard sometimes because you never know which revision of "-1"
you are currently talking about.

Other people suggested a revision <1. We could even use "~". But I'm a fan
of having -1, -2, -3, -4, -5 and -6 until the sponsor thinks the package
is okay and start with -6 in Debian then.

I'm deeply confused if I see two different uploads anywhere (be it on
mentors.debian.net or anywhere else) carrying the same revision number.
Usually I refuse to sponsor such packages.

It's not part of the Debian Reference yet so it will probably be handled
differently by different sponsor(?:ee)?s.

My comments:

 * Missing packaging license terms in debian/copyright.
 * Why package version is "overloaded"?

trueprint (5.3-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * New maintainer (Closes: #374128)

trueprint (5.3-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA Upload

 * Your package is not lintian clean, take a look to manpage's mistakes.
   W: trueprint: manpage-has-errors-from-man
 * Diff file contains direct modifications to upstream source without
   using a patch system (e.g dpatch).

For now, that's all folks.

It does make it much easier to spot when a new version has been posted to m.d.n if people do that. Alan

[It's provided in gnustep-common 1.13.0-1 (from the gnustep-make source
package).]

Yes, all GNUstep application packages give this warning. linda
apparently detects the symlink to the apparently-nonexistent file.
However, due to the dependency chain, /usr/lib/.../gnustep-app-wrapper
is guaranteed to be present on the system. So this warning can be
ignored.

The situation of gcc-h8300-hms and related packages

2006-09-22 Thread Michael Tautschnig
Hi all!

I've asked for sponsorship of gcc-h8300-hms 3 months ago [1], but couldn't find
anyone to do the NMU for me.

Now that the package has been orphaned [2], I'd hope for the situation to
improve. Anyone willing to sponsor may find the package at [3].

If there is any interest, I'd be willing to prepare new uploads for the packages
brickos and binutils-h8300-hms as well, which have been orphaned too.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

I cannot sponsot, IANADD, but I've give a look at you package: very
well done!! (it's lintian/linda clean and build correctly in pbuilder
env) Just a couple of notes:

* short description
 - could you please expand it, since I cannot understand what the
package is reading only that sentence

* watch file
 - I know you're the upstream author, but why not include that file:
it's easy and will help future maintainer in case you'll decide to
orphan this package.

Good luck in finding a sponsor.

Re: RFS: drapes

2006-09-22 Thread Sandro Tosi

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "drapes".

Hi Francesco,
I cannot upload since IANADD, but I've given a look at you package;
these are notes I'd like to advice you:

* debian/control
 - long descriptio should start capitalized
 - correct some typos in long description, for example: s/build
in/built-in/ , s/wallapers/wallpapers/
 - please include Homepage meta-tag as specified in [1]

* debian/copyright
 - you missed to insert copyright notes for many files: (apart from
Makefiles and other generated configure scripts)
   + ./po/{de,es,fr,it,ko,nl,pl,pt_BR,sv}.po are copyrighted by Canonical
   + ./drapes/panelapplet/PanelAppletFactory.cs by Novell
   + ./drapes/Traylib.cs is copyrighted by three different entities,
and is under MIT license.
 I know it's boring execute " find . -type f -exec less '{}' \; " but
you _have to_ do it, and report in debian/copyright every copyright
notice for files in your package.

* NEWS
 - this seems to be the upstream changelog, and it has to be treated
so: called changelog, and installed (after gzip -9 ) into
/usr/share/doc/drapes/changelog.gz . Give a look at
dh_installchangelogs

* debian/rules
 - remove template header
 - remove all commented out dh_* calls in binary-arch target
 - dh_install debian/pixmap/drapes.xpm /usr/share/pixmaps/
   it's better if you install it locally, $(CURDIR)/debian/drapes/usr/
 - why did you re-write patch/unpatch target instead of including
/usr/share/dpatch/dpatch.make ? (I've written a little page about
using dpatch: http://matrixhasu.altervista.org/index.php?view=use_dpatch
maybe give it a look)

* config.{guess,sub}
 - take care of those files: they can create many problems. you can
look at /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz

* debian/watch
 - as of now it's missing: please evaluate to add it: it will easy
noticing of new upstream releases. Upstream tarball patch is rather
funny: maybe you can contact him and ask to change in something more
easy to manage.

* debian/patches
 - please include description for patch 01_data_Makefile.in.dpatch
 - 02_config.dpatch is provided by Ralf Treinen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
should he be mentioned in debian/copyright? Some DDs can comment on
this?

* debian/drapes.1
 - have you forwarded upstream this manpage, asking him to include in
upstream tarball (maybe expanding it)? If no, do it, is yes, well
done! :)

I haven't build the package (neither in pbuilder) since I'd had to
download too much packages... :)

Kind Regards,
Sandro

I can sponsor such packages for you, but I do have a biiig question:

h8300-hms (actually, h8300-coff) is dead upstream. Nobody wrote a new gas
backend for h8300-coff, and it has been pulled from binutils. What do you
intend to do about it? The last binutils version that supports h8300-coff
is 2.16.x, I think.

h8300-elf still lives, though.

Also, maybe it is high time to rename h8300-hms to its proper name,
h8300-coff ?

Which binutils upstream did you use for H8/300 coff ?
