- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget

I uploaded an updated package incorporating the changes that were
suggested here (and also in private):

- Better short description
- Removed call to dh_installexamples from debian/rules as not needed

The watch file was not added as I really see no need for it.

Reassigning Bugs

2006-09-24 Thread Benjamin Mesing
Hello,

I have a bug which is not a bug in my package (packagesearch). However,
reassigning it to the package that causes that bug (apt-file), would
leave it no longer visible for my package, and thus probably result in
the bug to be posted again.
Is there a way to leave the bug visible for my package, but reassign it
to apt-file?

Options I have thought about, but found not to be optimal:
  * File a bug report against apt-file, and block the bug against
packagesearch by the new one - close the bug against
packagesaerch as soon as the bug in apt-file is closed. This
option does not reflect reality: I could not specify the version
of packagesearch this bug is closed in. Besides it requires me
to notice when the bug in apt-file is closed.
  * File a bug report against apt-file, (force)-merge the bug in
packagesearch with that one. Again this is not a truthful
reflection of reality, but might be a way to go.

Any help is appreciated!

Regards,

Ben

Reassign it to "packagesearch,apt-file" ?

clone 12345 -1
reassign -1 apt-file
retitle -1 apt-file: known to break packagesearch ...

2006-09-24 Thread Nacho Barrientos Arias
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.50-1 of my package
"libapp-info-perl".

It builds these binary packages:
libapp-info-perl - Provide metadata about software packages installed

The package is lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 372597

Formal resources:

 - deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main

Or simply dget it!

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libapp-info-perl/libapp-info-perl_0.50-1.dsc

Thank you!.

Notes:
 - Don't worry, it's true that this package crashes linda (see #385891)

I can do permanent sponsoring of your package if you want, but this
would require the following changes to your package:

  * remove the useless empty line at the end of debian/changelog.
  * remove useless ${misc:Depends} in debian/control.
  * place an empty line before Homepage in debian/control.
  * format the debian/copyright a bit different, look at e.g.
libextractor (it's about the license stanza).
  * remove the useless NEWS from docs.
  * remove the useless comments at the beginning of debian/rules, and
not used commented commands at build:. additionally, don't do
two empty lines at the same time, one is enough.
  * remove the useless commented stuff in and the empty lines at the end
of debian/watch. an remove the not required 'debian uupdate' suffix.
  * remove useless debian/dirs.

Hi,

I cannot sponsor either I am afraid, but I have a couple more small
comments.

  * You use a - prefix for $(MAKE) clean in debian/rules, but I don't
think that is right. clean should always succeed if the Makefile is
there (you rm -f everything), and if the Makefile isn't there then
there is a serious problem, and you don't really want to mask it.
This is used for autotools packages where it is possible the
Makefile is not there, and that should be ignored.
  * You have missed the copyright info for inotify.h in
debian/copyright. There is also no license information for this
file, can you get it and add it?

This file was taken from the Linux Kernel source tree and slightly
altered (Dropped everything in #ifdef __KERNEL__ as not needed and
useful in userspace). So this is licensed under the GPL. Would it
suffice to add a notice about this to debian/copyright (plus the
copyright information for the same file)? Or might it be better to
depend on linux-kernel-headers and take the file from there
(/usr/include/linux/inotify.h)?

Thanks for your help,

I took a look to your package and it looks nice, i only caught the
following minor mistakes:

 - Consider deleting all the obvious comments in debian/rules like:
* # Build commands.
* # Nothing to do.
* and more.
 - debian/control
* s/pixer/pixel
 - You can use this upload to close fixed in NMU bugs like #343915 :)

That's all folks.

Thank you very much for checking the package. I've incorporated your
corrections, and uploaded a new copy.

The upload would now fix these bugs: 338971, 387477, 388602, 343915, 335659

I did the changes. Would it maybe make sense to have dh_make directly
generate "correct" files (except the sample lines which still need to
be deleted if they are not used)? For example the double newlines in
rules and the layout of the copyright file was generated like this by
dh_make when I originally created the package.

I also extended the rules to automatically generate the man page
instead of manually generating it with help2man.

How to request binNMUs?

2006-09-24 Thread Daniel Leidert
Hello,

I would like to know, how a binNMU can be requested? I ran into
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=375868 and found, that
e.g. libgoffice-0-dev, libgoffice-0-3, libgoffice-1-2, gthumb
contain .la-files, that contain references to libgnomeprint-2-2.la. IMHO
a binNMU should fix this issue, but I don't know, how I shall request
them. I can of course file bug-reports against these packages (which I
will do, if the issue is not solved via binNMU).

Regards, Daniel

It is fine to lift this file and keep it in your package, but if you do
then it needs appropriate license information. This must then be
documented in debian/copyright.

The other alternative is to use the header file from /usr/include, in
which case you don't need to worry about this issue.

It is up to you down which route you go. Maybe someone else can say what
would suffice to allow you to go down the first route. Perhaps just a
note about where the file came from and so what license it is under
would suffice.

No, this is usually left out unless there is something special about it.

Sandro was suggesting you install it as changelog.gz rather than
NEWS.gz, but I'm not sure that is necessary.

If your method works then that's ok.

Your solution is interesting, but it is not the normal way of doing it.

Also if you are not using the lines in debian/rules, then delete them,
don't leave them commented out.

If copyright has been asserted on the file then it must be mentioned in
debian/rules, along with its distribution license. If there isn't one
you should find out what it is and add it, or drop the file.

This is normal, annoying, but normal. It is a documented problem in
pbuilder.

Depends what you mean by normal. It seemd to be something in the build
of your package, and as such probably wont have been seen in any other
packages. You should find out what it means and if it is a problem.

Hi,

I cannot sponsor I'm afraid, but I have a few comments,

  * Your debian/copyright file does not mention all the copyright
holders in the package. Also it seems the docs are under the FDL, is
that correct. If so this should be documented in debian/copyright as
well. See
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00023.html
  * Consider splitting out a -doc package to save some archive space.
  * You are missing a dependency on khelpcenter for the docs to be
viewable.

James

P.S. I see you use bzr for versioning your packaging, do you know about
bzr-builddeb for automating the task of building packages from a bzr
branch? See http://jameswestby.net/bzr/bzr-builddeb/ if you are
interested.

ok, I understand, but in the upstream tarball there are two files
similar to a changelog file (changelog and NEWS), so I preferred to
consider the file named changelog as the official changelog.
sorry for the play on words. :)

It's not my solution, :)
I have found it taking a look in the dpatch examples
(/usr/share/doc/dpatch/examples/dpatch/01_config.dpatch.gz).
considering that it is among the examples of dpatch, I have thought that
it is released under GPL, your opinion?

Yeah, that's generally what I do as well, and install NEWS as NEWS.gz. So
it sounds like you're doing things the right way.

All fixed, thx.

I checked the bug page of dh_make and it looks like there are already
some reports about the same problem.

I have found the error, I had to add
GCONF_DISABLE_MAKEFILE_SCHEMA_INSTALL=1 to debian/rules.
Now it's fixed, I have uploaded a new revision to mentors.
