Re: RFS: exaile

2006-10-22 Thread François Févotte

Dear mentors,

I uploaded a new version of my exaile packages. It addresses the
following issues:
* the package recommends python-gamin, as suggested by George Danchev
and Magnus Holmgren
* I repackaged the sources to remove the python-gpod binary .deb
package. Instead, the exaile package now recommends python-gpod, as
suggested by Eric Evans and Charles Plessy.
* I repackaged the upstream sources to remove the mutagen library
sources. The mutagen library is instead found in the python-mutagen
package (from which the exaile package depends) as suggested by Eric
Evans.
* I cleaned the debian/rules to remove the unneeded lines, as
suggested by Eric Evans.

The package builds well in a pbuilder chroot, and is lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e/exaile
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e/exaile/exaile_0.2.4-1.dsc

Thank you for looking at it.

 François Févotte

RFS: museek+ (updated package)

2006-10-22 Thread Le_Vert
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.1.12-1
of my package "museek+".

This new version is a bugfix release with important fix in the core software.
The packaging has been improved to remove scons call in clean rules and make
the package build on kfreebsd.

It builds these binary packages:
mucous - Python/curses client for museekd
museekd- Client for the SoulSeek peer-to-peer network (server daemon)
museekd-tools - Tools to manage a museekd daemon
museeq - Qt client for museekd
museeq-locales - Translations for museeq
musetup-gtk - Gtk based museekd configuration utility
python-museek - Python bindings for museek+

The package is lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/museek+
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/museek+/museek+_0.1.12-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
Adam Cécile

The intention of the author is obviously fine, so packaging should be no
problem. However, I would suggest that you ask the author to add the
recommended comment ("This program is free software; you can redistribute
and/or...") on the top of all source files. You should also copy that part
into debian/copyright.

Ok, I'll ask him about add the recommended comment that you suggest me.

No problems at all. Even though it is doubtful whether this is allowed by the
DFSG, it is common practice for license texts, and even for the "free software
fundamentalists" (as I am sometimes called) of Debian that is not considered a
problem. ;-)

Thanks,
Bas

2006-10-22 Thread Rogério Brito
Hi, François,

First of all, I can't upload the package for you, but I had a quick look
into the package.

I am anxiously awaiting for it to hit the Debian archives (I'd love to
have amarok installed, but its dependencies make the backup of my core
system have more than one CD which is one of the criteria that I use to
choose which packages to install---I hope that exaile won't exceed it,
since most of the infra-structure is already here with gtk 2).

That being said, I saw that you still have the Debian package versioned
as -1. There's no problem with that, but I saw that you didn't include
the issues you listed below in the changelog.

Some of them are included in README.Debian, where you mention that
you've modified the source package, while the others aren't cited in the
changelog: for instance, the fact that you've cleaned up debian/rules,
included the recommends and depends on the python-* etc.

This, while not critical, would be a good thing to have (credit where
credit is due).

Also, you have an exaile script in the main directory. Perhaps it would
be a good idea to not only call "python exaile.py $@", but to prepend it
with and "exec", unless I'm missing something. This is the same thing
as reported in bug #308239.

And perhaps it could "Suggests:" to have gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg? This, perhaps, would be a nice thing to have...

Thanks for packaging it. I can't wait to have it uploaded...

Regards, Rogério Brito.

That's fine if it's referring to the copyright notice or list of
authors, as that's required by the GPL and copyright law anyway.

Yet another minor issue here: the package's short description should not
start with an article [1].

Also, the short description probably assumes that the user is familiar
with amarok (I wasn't until I read about it in debian-user). Thinking
about a neutral short description (perhaps adding amarok in it,
parenthesized) would be good.

Something along the lines of:

"Flexible media player for many audio formats (and similar to Amarok)"

would be my suggestion.

Hope this helps to get it into shape.

Thanks, Rogério Brito.
