Oh, sure, will do that in a few hours. It was a bit late for me then...

Tests would be great; but I don't really get what you meant by "The orig.tar.gz"
there does not match.

RFS: kodos - A visual regular expression editor - (updated package)

2006-10-25 Thread Kevin Coyner

Dear friends,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 2.4.9-4 of a package I am
adopting called "kodos". I use this program and since it was recently
orphaned, I decided to adopt it.

It builds this binary packages:

kodos - A visual regular expression editor

The package is lintian/linda clean and builds just fine in pbuilder sid.
I've tested the update and it works as you would expect.

The upload would close this ITA bug: #394936

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/k/kodos
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/k/kodos/kodos_2.4.9-4.dsc

Long description:
Kodos is an application to aid in the creation and debugging of regular
expressions in python. The GUI for Kodos should eliminate the need for
using the python interpreter for regex design in most instances.

Changelog from this update:

  kodos (2.4.9-4)
  * New maintainer. Closes: #394936.
  * Updated Standards-Version to 3.7.2.2.  No changes.
  * Changed Build-Depends from python-dev to python-all-dev.
  * Updated debian/compat to 5.
  * Updated debian/watch to version 3.
  * Updated debian/copyright with correct FSF address and to proper Debian
policy.
  * Wrote and added a basic man page.
  * Converted menu icon from .png to .xpm format.
  * Added homepage to debian/control.

Many thanks in advance!

Kevin

Ok, but as you used the Sid package's stuff, better say that in the
changelog. And better make them urgency=medium if the target is Etch.

I happen to have some h8s coff code, so I can test your packages,
but please upload a sane version of the source package first. The
orig.tar.gz there does not match.

Thanks for your offer. Of course your contributions are welcome. Please seehttp://www.de.debian.org/devel/join/ for ways to help Debian.RegardsChristoph

Ok, finally it's done. You can find the binutils-h8300-hms packages at

http://www.model.in.tum.de/~tautschn/debian/

I have not yet made any attempt to build newer gcc-h8300-hms packages, though.

binutils-h8300-coff is the proper name. But don't rename the packages yet,
generate them with the old names in sid or you will get stuck in the NEW
queue, and that means *no* chance for Etch.

So, use binutils-h8300-hms and gcc-h8300-hms for now.

Sure, this is what I've used, but I've not yet tweaked the rules to do that
automagically.

Thanks a lot for the pointers,

PS.: Do you think binutils-h8300-hitachi-coff is an appropriate package name?

Ok. You did notice that debian/rules has a special entrypoint for
crosscompiling builds, and also one for cleaning the result of that up?

Ok, I'm working on that one - I've succeeded to build the package, but a proper
Debian package still requires a bit of work, I'll try to manage that by
tomorrow.

As seen on [1], brickos (still) doesn't build on amd64. It looks like
a porting problem in binutils, so that might be fixed by upgrading.

Some embedded controller firmware out there are h8300-coff as well, so no,
Lego Mindstorms is not the only user. But it is probably the major one.

I don't know about gcc, but to binutils 2.16.x, yes, it is worth it. It is
also dead easy: get the latest binutils packages in sid, apply the
debian/ directory to 2.16.x, and tweak debian/rules a bit to instead of the
normal build, do a crosscompiler build.

Sponsoring gcc-h8300-hms

2006-10-25 Thread Michael Tautschnig
Hi guys,

sorry for replying that late, I've been too busy to do anything about your
offers. However, Christoph has been as kind as to upload a new version of the
package.

I'm still interested in maintaining these packages, but I'm not a DD and thus
I've got to rely on sponsorship.

Furthermore, I'd like to add some notes: Probably brickos and the Lego
Mindstorms Kit is the only use of this and related packages. As such I wonder
whether it is worth trying to upgrade to binutils 2.16.x and gcc-4.x, because
this very outdated version of binutils and gcc just works for this very special
application.

The reason for an upgrade is probably #392957, but solving this one some other
way might save a lot of time and pain.

Thanks again,
Michael
