'Redistribution is unlimited, but modification is prohibited.' Not sure about the .html file, seems to miss a license on the first look - didn't check, though. The way you're building the package seems to be kinda broken for me (without testing) - if I understand it right, your makefile will be run deom debian/rules, modify debian/control and run debuild? This sounds completely broken. Bear with me if that's not the case, almost 4am - so this was only a very fast check. Cheers, Bernd Oh, it most likely is completely broken; I'm quite new at this. :) I don't know how debian/rules gets called, really. I got from the various instructions and so forth that I read that running debuild from the root of the package source directory is what should properly build the package for you, so I went with that. Later, I modified it so that, depending on ia32-libs, it would be possible to install the package on an AMD64 machine; that's what the debian/control modification is for. To my knowledge, I don't run debian/rules; debuild does. So to build this package, you just run make from the package source directory instead (or, say, make amd64). Is there some other way I should be doing this? Thanks, Zach -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ITA: libdbi + libdbi-drivers (updated packages)
Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.8.2-1 of my package libdbi and for for the new version 0.8.2-1-1 of my package libdbi-drivers. The package has been orphaned because we have no reply from the previous maintainer of the package. The result was quite bad, the package was producing segfault (crashing badly), and then when Etch was released, it was just simply removed. The (active) upstream authors where not aware of the status of the package and were quite surprised when I wrote to them. This ITA is an attempt of rebirth for the package. I've been searching for the bug number that announce that the package is orphaned, but sorry, I can't find it any more in my (huge) mail log. It's been 2 years and 49 days that the upstream author, Markus Hoenicka, sent a bug report about an updated version. Nothing was done since. It's really a shame as this package is a VERY powerful bridge for many database servers. It has many drivers like: freedts (Sybase MS SQL), MySQL, PGSql, sqlite and sqlite3. Some other drivers that depend on non-free packages like MS SQL, Oracle and others are not packaged here. If somebody finds a way to include them, let me know, but I think it's best to keep this package in main. Somebody that would need such support could anyway download the source package and fix if needed. libdbi is to me, a very important package on which many application depends. One of my package, mod_log_sql (called libapache-mod-log-sql as the source package in Debian), depends on it and can't be migrated from Lenny to SID because of libdbi being not maintained. And then my control panel for web hosting falls in the same problem as it depends on mod_log_sql. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that case. For these reasons, I think it would great if the package could find a good sponsor. Be aware that this is the first time that I am packaging a library. However, I have read all the documentation that I've found online about building packages for libs, and I hope I didn't do any mistake. libdbi version 0.8.2-1 builds these binary packages: libdbi-doc - DB Independent Abstraction Layer for C -- documentation libdbi0 - Database Independent Abstraction Layer for C libdbi0-dev - DB Independent Abstraction Layer for C -- development files The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libdbi - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libdbi/libdbi_0.8.2-1.dsc libdbi-drivers version 0.8.2-1-1 builds these binary packages: libdbd-freetds - Freetds database server driver for libdbi libdbd-mysql - MySQL database server driver for libdbi libdbd-pgsql - PostgreSQL database server driver for libdbi libdbd-sqlite - SQLite database driver for libdbi libdbd-sqlite3 - SQLite3 database driver for libdbi The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libdbi-drivers - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libdbi-drivers/libdbi-drivers_0.8.2-1-1.dsc Both packages appears to be lintian clean. Re: RFS: ipp2p
Hi, Theppitak Karoonboonyanan [EMAIL PROTECTED] hit the keyboard. Afterwards the following was on the screen: I wonder how this is going on. I'm one who used it to serve a customer. And I heard some people asking for it in debian for some time. (Mostly, I pointed them to Bug #408258 to fetch the source package and build it themselves.) So, it would be nice to have it in official debian. Not a DD, I can just hope that someone would give a hand. Sorry for my long absense and late answer. I forgot close to everything about ipp2p due to personal reasons. I have turned my attention back to ipp2p; I found a sponsor some time ago but I never brought it further. I intend to contact him and try to get ipp2p uploaded. In the meantime you can find the updated package here: http://www.zz9.dk/debian/source/ipp2p_0.8.2-1.dsc http://www.zz9.dk/debian/source/ It should work for recent kernels on etch and unstable. Doubt about a java version of a package
Hi *, I have a package (yacas [0]) which is providing a java-based version of itself on its latest upstream version. I have read the java-policy. I read that the file (in my case a .jar one) must be executable and installed in /usr/bin. What I am not sure it's how the application should be launched when it's installed in Debian. I'd like to know if any of you know about a package in Debian that installs a java application so I can do an apt-get source and see how to proceed. (I've tried downloading some packages making use of aptitude search but I haven't found the right one yet) I hope you can help me. Cheers, [0] http://yacas.sourceforge.net/ -- Muammar El Khatib. As far as I can tell, the JAR must be put in /usr/share/java, and the executable must be a wrapper script which calls the java interpreter with the right jar. For example, in case of JFTP: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~] ls -l /usr/share/java/jftp* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 466158 2007-10-12 10:57 /usr/share/java/jftp-1.51~pre3.jar lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2007-10-25 08:29 /usr/share/java/jftp.jar - jftp-1.51~pre3.jar And /usr/bin/jftp has this: #!/bin/sh /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java -jar /usr/share/java/jftp.jar $@ (Note that your package shouldn't explicitly use /usr/lib/jvm/etc. unless you specifically require a JVM for it. You should use /usr/bin/java, which defaults to the JVM alternative the user has set in /etc/alternnatives/java.) I'd like to know if any of you know about a package in Debian that installs a java application so I can do an apt-get source and see how to proceed. (I've tried downloading some packages making use of aptitude search but I haven't found the right one yet) Well, you could see jftp, except that it's in contrib, but you may be able to get it into main if you get it to build it with a free Java compiler like gcj. Or, see the pkg-java list for a bigger list. I hope you can help me. (I'm sorry for asking that but it's my first time facing a java packaging) If you have a look at the JFTP rules file, it has this line: JAVA_HOME := /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun Now, instead of this, you should try to use /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj and Build-Depend on java-gcj-compat-dev. If this helps build your package and runs it, yacas can stay in main. However, if you just can't build it using GCJ, then you may try kaffe or jikes, but I don't know too much about them. See any of the packages maintained by pkg-java-maintainers. For example, commons-io is a simple one. They all use cdbs for building, and it should be quite simple to adapt the ant based build to yacas. All the best!
