Any reasoning why have you chosen this patch and not the one using
g_file_set_contents()? (Not that I would prefer either of them, I'm

Just few more comments:

- do you really need to build dep on autotools-dev?
- debian/copyright does not seem to match real license of files:

history.*, main.*, parcelite.*, utils.* are GPL 3 or later while you
say the package is GPL 3
eggaccelerators.* are LGPL 2 or later (this one is correct)
keybinder.* are LGPL 2.1 or later

- Please cleanup debian/rules from things you do not use. For example
dh_installexamples does not have to be there.

Query about Debian

I have sware problem with debian :( :(

i am working on fixing the bug in the package 'testdisk'. Well how can i
continue work, because its 8th time i ran the command *apt-get build-dep
testdisk.

The problem i am facing is that, after this command execution, i can not
work smoothly i.e. many of utilities do not work properly like web browser
and in any case i shutdown debian , when i come bck to work next time , the
debian no more works. It appers in light grey color as k for username
password and become halted.
so after that i again install debian and run the same command. I think the
fetched dependencies do something wrong.

i have these lines written in sources.list : *dep

Please help as soon as possible.

Your question is far from clear, but it should be directed to

i have these lines written in sources.list : *dep

Ok, let's try to do it step-by-step.

1. Probbably these lines read as deb ..., not dep ... - right?
2. Did you run apt-get update, as you have been told?
3. Have you always been running a sid system, or did you (partly!?) upgrade?
4. Do you have an uptodate sid system at all?
5. Are you aware of the fact that sid == unstable and anything might be broken
at any time?
6. Well, and then debian-mentors is not necessarily the proper list. You might
want to try debian-user according to the problems you are experiencing.

It builds these binary packages:

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:

main contrib non-free

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. I sent such a

then the package got forgotten. That would be great if someone could
have a new look at it.

Just a quick look:

- debian/changelog format looks strange
- debian/control
- Homepage is missing
- why do you depend on libgnome-keyring0?
- use pycentral or pysupport and ${python:Depends} instead of
  depending on python2.5
- why does description start with empty line?
- try to describe package more than just one sentence
- debian/rules
- do not use mkdir, install, use dh_install instead
- no need for configure target if it is not used
- no need to set CFLAGS, you don't compile anything
- please remove commented out things
- package should be built by binary-indep as it is arch all
- you should not pass debian/changelog to dh_installchangelogs
- debian/dirs is IMHO not needed at all
- debian/copyright
- upstream tarball does not indicate that the
package is GPL, try contacting upstream to include license
  information in package
- This package was py2debianized(0.3-gtkvncviewer)?
- please use lintian:

sed to this line.

DEB_VERSION := $(shell dpkg-parsechangelog | egrep '^Version:' | cut -f 2 -d '

# As a special exception, when this file is copied by dh-make into a

Since this is mentor's list, not user's, i'll try to explain you what you're
doing wrong from a Debian developer's point of view.

What you do want actually is to have a _stable_ OS. So please use Etch in
your source.list. If you just considering to start mixing you own system
with testing or unstable, please reconsider again: you should know what you
doing.

For the purpose of package buildings for Sid use another methods such as
pbuilder. In any case, do it in _another_ environment: chroot, User Mode
Linux etc.
