Poke upstream until a sane tarball drops out, repack and add +dfsg1 to
the upstream version until then.

My comments:
 - There is a new upstream release (0.9), you might prefer to prepare that
package instead of the version 0.8.
 - There are a few typos in the changelog, please try to fix them.
 - Standards-Version is a littly outdated (3.8.1 instead of 3.8.2).
 - Small typo in debian/copyright (copyight instead of copyright).
 - It's polite to include NMUs (0.7-1.1) debian/changelogs entrys.

The accepted practice is to append a dfsg-suffix to the version number,
for example: agg_2.5+dfsg1.orig.tar.gz

Different upstream tar.gz

2009-07-26 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
I'm looking at fixing #517904[1], that the language packages for
tesseract are blobs without source. To do this, I will have to give a
new upstream tar.gz, containing the source, and not the blob. How do I
do this? Should I make up a new upstream version number? Is there a
standard solution for this?

Okay. There are only binary packages of libweed0 because (if I
understand correctly), Christian Marillat created just binary packages.
As you suggest, I'll create a source package for libweed, so while I'm
doing it, please could everyone ignore the RFS.

My comments:
 - Don't use dh_clean -a in install-arch rule, you need to use dh_clean -k -a
(deprecated) or dh_prep -a, else the arch indep package would not be
uploaded.
 - You don't need to modify debianized date in debian/copyright
 - Try to convince upstream to include an icon and a .desktop file in their
   tarball
 - Try to push patches, and to make the patches in a pushable manner
(for example, debian/patches/01_paths.patch is not applicable by upstream
   as is)
 - Try to convince upstream to maintain a changelog file

I'd uploaded your package, without realizing of the first comment above, so I
had to fix it and reupload it as an NMU. Please consider the issues to improve
the software and packaging.

RFS: lives

2009-07-26 Thread Harry Rickards
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the package "lives" which I updated and
removed lintian warnings and errors. This is not a non-maintainer upload
as the upstream author Gabriel Finch has agreed to
list me as an 'uploader' in debian/control. The original maintainer was
Gürkan Sengün .

I think the original maintainer Gürkan Sengün is a
Debian Developer as although I can't find him using db.debian.org, a
random one of his packages I chose ttf-jura has been uploaded to the
repository, but I can't find an RFS for it, only an ITP. Gürkan, if you
want to upload lives that's great, but if not don't worry.

The package requires libweed0, which is available from
debian-multimedia.org
(http://www.debian-multimedia.org/pool/main/l/lives/). However, only
binary packages exist. Does this need to be uploaded before lives can (a
source package would have to be made)?
Also, would a postinst script that downloaded and installed libweed0 be
acceptable? If not, is it unacceptable to add an override to suppress
lintian warning about symlinks to shared libraries in the main packages?

* Package name: lives
  Version : 1.0.0-1
  Upstream Author : Gabriel Finch
* URL : http://lives.sourceforge.net/
* License : GNU GPLv3
  Section : graphics

It builds these binary packages:
lives - Linux Video Editing System

The package appears to be lintian clean (without pedantic).

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/lives
- - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- - dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/lives/lives_1.0.0-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me, or gave me advice.

I would like to ask one other question here.
Let say that I have two different working debian/symbols file;
one for i386 and one for amd64 architecture.
.symbols.i386
.symbols.amd64
Q1: How to care about other architectures which I am not able test?
Q2: Should I have in one other symbols file with all symbols?
.symbols
