Maintainer/Sponsor sought for new Web Content Management System

2010-02-20 Thread Beaky, The WACS Man
Greetings folks. It's been suggested to me that I send an email to this
list seeking a volunteer to act as Maintainer/Sponsor for a Web CMS that
I'm lead developer on. It's a pretty mature project (under development
for over five years) and is released under the GPLv3 license. As far as
I know there is no other similar free software package available; all of
the competition is (very) expensive and proprietary.

It manages collections of photo stories and video clips of an adult
nature and contains:

- a Complete search/retrieval system
- Extensive web-based content/collection management tools
- Extensive APIs implemented in both Perl and PHP5
- a customisable example web site template
- command line collection management tools
- a download system
- Complete database schema with documentation
- Massive Documentation library (approx 450 pages)

We've released .deb packages via our sourceforge download area for the
last couple of releases, so the build architecture should only need
tweaking.

There's already a fairly active discussion going on over on the webapps
list about some of the security and permissions issues involved.

I do not feel it is appropriate that I myself become the maintainer as I
think it needs the checks and balances of someone else reviewing the
releases before they come out.

Hopefully someone with an interest in the area will be prepared to come
forward and take on this package. You can find out more by emailing me
directly or visiting the project pages at http://wacsip.sourceforge.net
and/or https://launchpad.net/wacs

We are currently planning on a new release (0.8.5) for mid-March.

Cheers
Beaky

Re: RFS: duply (updated package)

Would not it be preferable to have a description that is
self-sufficient, rather than just referencing another package?

 Something like:
duply - easy to use frontend to the duplicity backup system

Thanks for this idea! I will change it in the next version.

updates on mentors.debian.net without *orig*

2010-02-20 Thread Joachim Wiedorn
Hello,

if I already have uploaded my package to mentors.debian.net:

i.e.mypack_1.0-1.debian.tar.gz
mypack_1.0-1.dsc
mypack_1.0.orig.tar.gz

and it was sponsored, I should remove the files from mentors.debian.net.

But after awhile I will make an updated version. When I create the new
version with debuild, i.e. 1.0-2, the file

mypack_1.0-2_amd64.changes

is made without a line for mypack_1.0.orig.tar.gz (the usual behaviour)
and the upload to mentors.debian.net ignores that file.

Then mentors.debian.net only have the following files:

i.e.mypack_1.0-2.debian.tar.gz
mypack_1.0-2.dsc

Is this o.k. and the usual way?

Fondest regards,
 Joachim Wiedorn

To have a really working (and dget-able) package on mentors.d.n you
need to upload with the original tarball included. Add the -sa option
to your build. If the package is in the archive your potential sponsor
will just upload it without the .orig.tar.gz.

Jan

It's the usual way for uploading directly to the Debian repositories, so
that's the default.

However, it's not what you want for inviting prospective sponsors; they
are better served by having the full source package available, including
upstream tarballs.

To get that, specify unconditional inclusion of the upstream tarballs by
passing the ‘-sa’ option to ‘dpkg-genchanges(1)’.

You forgot to check at least:
- if your packags builds in a clean sid chroot (hint: it does not);
- if your package doesn't contain any blatant security vulnerabilities
(hint: symlink attack).

Hope that helps. :)
