Modification of configuration files in postinst

2010-06-01 Thread Roland Gruber
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi all,

I got a piuparts bug (582020) report because my package
(ldap-account-manager) changes configuration files when running postinst.

E.g. it asks the user via debconf to specify a master configuration
password. This is then written to the configuration file. Even if the
debconf dialog is not displayed postinst writes the config file (with a
default value).

This is the postinst code:

db_get "ldap-account-manager/passwd"
passwd="$RET"
perl -pi -e "s/password: .*/password: $passwd/g"
/etc/ldap-account-manager/config.cfg

Is there any way to mark a configuration file as unchanged after package
installation? Any other solutions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

RFS: silentjack 0.2-1

2010-06-01 Thread Andrew Gee
Hello all,

Following on from my email from just recently, I've packaged up another
similar package. I'm looking for a mentor for this package too.

It's called 'silentjack' and it's used to detect silence in the JACK
sound system. If there is silence it will initiate a command, before
jumping back to detect more silence.

Package is lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/silentjack
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/silentjack/silentjack_0.2-1.dsc

Would be great if someone could upload this (and hopefully the other)
package for me.

Regards,
Andrew Gee

RFS: gnustep-gui (updated package)

2010-06-01 Thread Yavor Doganov
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.18.0-1
of my package "gnustep-gui".

It builds these binary packages:
gnustep-gui-common - GNUstep GUI Library - common files
gnustep-gui-doc - Documentation for the GNUstep GUI Library
gnustep-gui-runtime - GNUstep GUI Library - runtime files
libgnustep-gui-dev - GNUstep GUI header files and static libraries
libgnustep-gui0.18 - GNUstep GUI Library
libgnustep-gui0.18-dbg - GNUstep GUI Library - debugging symbols

There are a few "standard/usual" for GNUstep lintian warnings
image-file-in-usr-lib. It's in my TODO to fix that ASAP.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnustep-gui
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnustep-gui/gnustep-gui_0.18.0-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

I have updated the short description to "A GUI and command-line interface to optimize image files via various command line tools" and pushed these to mentors.debian.net (http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action="">) The 'cross-platform tool' is more of a general description I use, but I understand a more specific one is desirable for Debian.

Kind regards,
Kilian

ps. if this turns up a dupe, apologies. still getting used to the debian mailinglist system.

Sorry, I should indeed have asked you first!

Would you have the time and inclination to look at the package?

Since the long description mentions how it performs things, you can keep
the short description shorter. BTW, the "A" article could be dropped.

Also, why is this package native? A native package is, by definition,
one that only matters to Debian and no distribution or operating system
else. You should fix this.

The long description should have its lines wrapped. The package browsers
are intelligent enough to know when lines should be wrappred and they
they shouldn't when they display the messages to the users.

Nitpick: some consistency in the spaces in the versioned
(build-)dependencies would be good.

I am not exactly sure if you need a build-dependency on python once
python-central is installed (I am not experienced with python), but I
would say that it isn't.

The changelog doesn't close an ITP bug in the first release. Is that
intentional?

"GUI and command-line interface to optimize image files" is it, now.

I'm new to versioning/packaging, Trimage is my first app and I'm doing
this on what I can find online and irc. What does it meant to be a
native package? Do I need to change the version number to 1.0.2-1?

The long description should have its lines wrapped. The package browsers

Thanks, done :)

Fixed, too

I'm using https://launchpad.net/pyapptemplate as a template for my
packaging, it has python there. I don't think it does any harm so I'll
leave it.

The changelog doesn't close an ITP bug in the first release. Is that

As I said, I'm doing this on what I can find online. mentors.debian.org
seemed to suggest being seperate from submitting an ITP. Do I have to?

Cheers,
Kilian

"Explicit is better than implicit". The fact that python-central depends
on python should be considered only an implementation detail of
python-central and not relied on.

Anyway, python-central is frown upon in the debian-python community;
please use python-support instead (unless you have a very good reason to
do otherwise).
