RFS: freeimage (updated package)

2010-09-06 Thread Cosme Domínguez Díaz
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package freeimage.

* Package name: freeimage
  Version : 3.14.1
Upstream Author : [Hervé Drolon dro...@infonie.fr]
* URL : [http://freeimage.sourceforge.net]
* License : [GPL] or FreeImage Public License (FIPL)
  Section : libs

It builds these binary packages:
freeimage libfreeimage-dev - Support library for graphics image
formats (development files)
libfreeimage3 - Support library for graphics image formats (library)
libfreeimage3-dbg - Support library for graphics image formats
(debugging symbols)

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: #595559, #595560, #492762 and #558857.

My motivation for maintaining this package is:
FreeImage is a dependency of OGRE 3D and I'm working with that engine.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/freeimage/
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/freeimage/freeimage_3.14.1-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

(Can't find any bug number for that)

Does that mean I've asked an inappropriate question? I thought it was OK
to ask here for general advice related to packaging. This may not be
strictly Debian-specific, but I want to make sure the upstream package
is consistent with Debian policies and practices.

The first problem is that the translator tells me that the headings -
NAME, SYNOPSIS, AUTHOR etc - which are generated by
xmlto/xsltproc, didn't get translated. How can it be made to output
  localised versions?

The XML file needs to contain book lang=en with en can be replaced
by the two-letter ISO code for the language.
Then docbook tools will use their internal translation from
 /usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/nwalsh/common/es.xml (in the case of
 spanish).

OK, thanks.

Using po4a is recommended, as it uses translators work (gettext po files
can then be used to translate this XML files, translations
statistics/status, possibility to send translation calls...).
 http://po4a.alioth.debian.org/

I came across that while I was searching and thought it looked good.
I'll suggest it to the translator and consider using it to support
future translations, but as he's already worked on the XML files it
might be easier for him to stick with that.

Include 0AD, a new fancy 3D RTS

2010-09-06 Thread Bertrand Marc

Hi folks !

I intend to include a new promising game in Debian : 0AD [1]. I did a
lot of work for the initial packaging on svn.debian.org [2], [3].
Packages are working and are lintian clean.

The thing is the game needs to compile a few build-deps itself :
- a specific version of spidermonkey
- a library called fcollada
- premake

Premake is currently in new and should therefore enter Debian in the
next few weeks. But for the other two build-deps, I don't really know
what to do. Should I try and package them ? (I don't think I am able to
package a library from scratch). Would the packages be accepted in main
with these embeded build-deps ?

Cheers,
Bertrand

PS I am subscribed to both list.

Hello,

I can't say I have made a deep review - just compiled, tried the app and
looked at some files. But I must say the app itself is very practical
for any web (and not only web) designer.

I would anyway not be able be sponsor since I'm not a DD, but I
encourage DDs to not be fooled by the word simple in the motivation
above, neither by the intrinsec simplicity that the color picker
expression may suggest. This is in my opinion a well written and useful
tool, worth a place in Debian.

My 2 cents.

@Elías: maybe the language and graphic libraries adopted don't deserve a
place in the description.
Instead, if I was in you I would ensure that the expression color
theme appears in it, since that's a fundamental feature of the
software.
Moreover, there is a redundant space in the second line.
Finally, I think the following applies to the package:

Help with uswsusp

2010-09-06 Thread Rodolfo kix Garcia

Dear mentors,

I am trying to update the current uswsusp package, created and maintained by
Tim. Now the package has 83 bugs. I am trying to help.

The new version is 0.9 (I have a lintian problem about the version number) and
probably this new version closes some package bugs :-)

I try to review the bugs, but is not possible :-( because it need many time. I
don't know what to do, probably an idea is mail to the people who reports the
bug, and try the new package.

This is an update in both program version and packaging:

* Package name: uswsusp
* Version : 0.9
* URL :http://suspend.sourceforge.net/ but the new version is in
git.kernel.org
(http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/rafael/suspend-utils.git;a=tree)
* License : GNU GPL
* Section : admin

The package can be found on my server, probably I will move it to
mentors.debian.net:
- URL:http://www.kix.es/src/suspend-utils/debian/

The package has three problems with lintian:

- maintainer-upload-has-incorrect-version-number 0.9-0.0 (normal)
- unused-debconf-template (minor)
- hyphen-used-as-minus-sign (whislist)

But I don't know how to solve it :-?

Kind regards.

To get more explanations you should use lintian -i on the .changes
file. Use the -I option to get minor warnings too (and make the
package cleaner).

An example:

Thanks Eriberto,

the problem is that I don't know how to solve it or if it is really is a
problem. I used -I -i and --show-overrides with lintian.

1. The package version is 0.9 but lintian says that I can't use dots in
the package version. :-?
2. I am not sure if the templates are used or not, because I don't
create them (comes from 0.8). I read about the lintian problem, but I am
not sure to delete the files because can be used.
3. The manpages are created using XML, and then converted. I can view
them without problems.

Thanks for your interest in that!

The thing is the game needs to compile a few build-deps itself :
 - a specific version of spidermonkey

Since spidermonkey is already in Debian, please encourage 0AD upstream
to get those changes merged into spidermonkey upstream or make 0AD
work with the unpatched spidermonkey. Anything else wouldn't be
appropriate to have in Debian.

 - a library called fcollada

One issue I note is that they embed minigzip:

http://www.collada.org/mediawiki/index.php/Building_third_party_libraries_for_the_COLLADA_DOM

You will need to wait for this to be fixed before packaging fcollada:

http://bugs.debian.org/574798

There are some basic packages for fcollada here:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/panda3d/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/f/fcollada/

But for the other two build-deps, I don't really know what to do.
Should I try and package them ?

SpiderMonkey is already in Debian (libmozjs-dev), probably without the
0AD patches. fcollada, please contact the person who packaged fcollada
in the above PPA and get them to integrate it into Debian. If they
aren't willing to do that then you can adopt the packages and move
them into Debian.

(I don't think I am able to package a library from scratch).

Check out libpkg-guide (and its bugs). Also please ask the libraries'
upstreams if they know about and use abi-compliance-checker:

http://packages.debian.org/sid/libpkg-guide
http://packages.debian.org/sid/abi-compliance-checker

Would the packages be accepted in main with these embeded build-deps  ?

I personally would not upload 0AD in such a state. I strongly
encourage you to package them separately and get upstream to remove
the embedded versions from their tarball.
