Re: RFS: 9menu (updated package)

2010-11-06 Thread Daniel Echeverry

Hi

Three things you might want to correct in the next upload:

  · debian/rules: The override_dh_auto_clean target is not necessary as
it just calls dh_auto_clean with no options.

Done!

  · debian/rules: You should remove the generated upstream changelog in
the clean target. For example by calling "dh_clean changelog".

Done!

  · There is a warning from dpkg-shlibdeps:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: dependency on libXext.so.6 could be
avoided if "debian/9menu/usr/bin/9menu" were not uselessly linked
against it (they use none of its symbols).
You should try not linking against the library and check if 9menu
still works correctly.

For this, I've created the patch 06_Imakefile.diff , please check out:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/9/9menu/9menu_1.8-4.dsc

Daniel

1. The source package still contains the upstream patch generated by
dpkg-source (debian/patches/debian-changes-0.04-4).
Please either:
  a) Rename the patch to some meaningful name and edit its header
as suggested by the template, or
  b) I can't see the point for adding the two files (StayPuft.afm,
StayPuft.enc) which should only be useful for Type 1 fonts.
If so, you may just drop the patch and log the reason.

2. No need to invoke 'fc-cache' in postinst, as fontconfig is already
triggered on any change under /usr/share/fonts. Please drop the
debian/postinst.

3. (Optional) As defoma is to be obsolete soon [1], please consider
removing the defoma-hint in some future uploads and probably
replacing it with fontconfig config file instead. (Don't do it right now
for this upload, though.)

(future unblock) RFS: mobile-broadband-provider-info (updated package)

2010-11-06 Thread Bhavani Shankar R
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 20101106-1
of my package "mobile-broadband-provider-info".

It builds these binary packages:
mobile-broadband-provider-info - database of mobile broadband service providers

The package appears to be lintian clean.

Rationale for freeze exception:

(In view of previous unblocks I m quoting the relevant parts from my
previous mails):

[/quote]

I uploaded a new version because it supports new networks fixing
bug(s) back in ubuntu and here is the upstream changes
log

http://git.gnome.org/browse/mobile-broadband-provider-info/log/

also from the README file

" The Package contains only informational files so it's
safe for distributions to grab updates even during feature freeze and
maintenance stages."

henceforth I am attaching the debdiff from the present version in
sid/squeeze for your kind review

[/unquote]

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/mobile-broadband-provider-info
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/mobile-broadband-provider-info/mobile-broadband-provider-info_20101106-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards

1. You don't need to repack the upstream tarball just to rename the directory
from Isabella/ to ttf-isabella-1.2/. 'dpkg-source -x' can rename it for you on
extraction. It's a best practice to use upstream pristine tarball if
possible [1].

  [1]
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/best-pkging-practices.html#bpp-origtargz

So, please just *rename* the downloaded upstream tarball [2] to
ttf-isabella_1.2.orig.tar.gz.

  [2] http://www.thibault.org/fonts/isabella/Isabella-1.2-src.tar.gz

2. Invoking 'fc-cache' on posinst is not needed any more, as fontconfig is
now triggered upon all changes under /usr/share/truetype/.
So, debian/postinst can be removed.

3. (Optional) 'defoma' is to be obsolete soon [3]. Please consider removing
the defoma-hints in future uploads. (Don't do it right now for this upload.)
You may provide a fontconfig config file instead.

You would add yourself to that section, including the

Yes, that's what I usually do - also keeping the former maintainer's
copyright notice for the years gone by, of course.

> What's with the licence itself, when it's Expat that
> should last or could it be altered - why shouldn't?

I think that if you want to change a license on existing files, you may
want to check with the other (former) copyright holders to see if
they're okay with their files distributed under the new license. This
might not be needed if the new license is just as restrictive or more
restrictive than the old - but only if it does indeed include *all* the
restrictions the old one did. In general, it doesn't hurt to ask :)

Of course, IANAL and it just might be worth it for you to bring this up
on the debian-legal list, just in case.

G'luck,
Peter

Adopting: maintainer change in debian/changelog

2010-11-06 Thread Daniel Stender
Hi guys,

question: if I am adopting a packet, what's the procedure for altering
debian/copyright (dep5)?
Since I've learned that the "Maintainer:" field is for the upstream developer,
should I just "take
over" the copyright for "Files: debian/*"? What's with the licence itself, when
it's Expat that
should last or could it be altered - why shouldn't?
