Indeed not. But in this case the ABI was not broken. In fact it is a
stable library, with some new features and bugfixes the last years.
I've checked the git history and since mid 2008 no ABI breaking
changes were made (or I looked over them).

I like Jakub's suggestion of proposing a soversion number scheme
upstream and adopting it in debian.

Renamed to the proper version without epoch, built, signed, uploaded.

I've not "fixed" the unneeded-build-dep-on-quilt warning of lintian, but
maybe that could be part of the gitpkg "fix" that would only ship
debian/patches (including debian/patches/series) if it's really required
and also ship the quilt-b-dep if it's really required. It may very well
be that it's not even required due to the dpkg-source v3.

Thanks for your contribution!

This is already fixed in gitpkg 0.20; the lintian false-positive is about
something different; see #633891 for details.

The quilt build-dep has nothing to do with gitpkg, as far as I know. I
suspect you (and lintian) are correct that it is not needed.

Regarding the dependency quilt (>= 0.48-7~)

If I remove it, lintian complains:
lintian -I --pedantic *.dsc
E: jampal source: missing-build-dependency quilt

If I include the quilt dependency, lintian complains
lintian -I --pedantic *.dsc
P: jampal source: unneeded-build-dep-on-quilt

I am using compat 8 and source format 3.0 (quilt)
There are currently no patches, but there may be before I am through.

What is the correct thing to do here?

Please copy me on responses (I am not subscribed).

Thanks

Your rules file contains:

%:
dh --with quilt $@

that is, you explicitly invoke dh_quilt. This is not needed for you,
using the 3.0 (quilt) format which implicitly uses quilt. Hence it
should be safe to remove the "--with-quilt" flag for you.

This is also what Lintian is catching.

Re: RFS: Jampal (2nd try)

2011-07-15 Thread Peter Bennett
Thank you Arno for your assistance.
I have uploaded a new version of jampal, 02.01.05-1
All problems previously noted have been fixed.

The lintian appears to be clean
lintian -I --pedantic jampal_02.01.05-1.dsc
gives no error.

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "jampal".

* Package name: jampal
  Version : 02.01.05-1
Upstream Author : I am the upstream author. Peter Bennett
.
* URL : http://jampal.sourceforge.net
* License : GPLv3 or higher
  Section : sound

It builds these binary packages:
tagbkup- back up and restore mp3 tags
jampal - mp3 song library management system and player

I am using wheezy/sid x86_64

My motivation for maintaining this package is: I believe this can be a
very useful system for people with large collections of mp3 music files.
It has many features not available with any other program.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/j/jampal
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/j/jampal/jampal_02.01.05-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Please copy on any emails.

Kind regards
 Peter Bennett

It does the same here. This however did not prevent me from using
tsung in production without facing any issue. I will get in touch with
upstream to get more information about these testing errors.

You are right. I will get rid of this dependency. :)

I seems like you and Benoit are right: the two licenses don't seem to
be compatible [1]. I will report this issue upstream and check if the
package would still be usable when removing the 3 files you mentioned
that are distributed the terms of EPL.

Thanks a lot for taking a look at my package, and sorry for the delay

RFS: pynagram (updated package, second attempt)

2011-07-15 Thread Umang Varma

Dear mentors and debian-python,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.0.1-1 of my package
"pynagram". The previous sponsor has indicated that he is too busy to
sponsor pynagram.

I had tried to seek a new sponsor by sending an RFS only to the d-py
list and didn't find any. In my second attempt to find a new sponsor, I
am posting to d-mentors also.

Here is some information on this package and update:

Pynagram is an anagram word game this was written in Python and uses
PyQt4. I am the upstream developer. Pynagram was first uploaded to
Debian in February 2010. Recently, I have not done much development
because I believe the project has pretty much matured.

I am not dead, however. I recently fixed a bug [1] when I received an
email about it. With this release, I updated the debian package to use
newer packaging tools (`py_support` -> `dh_python2`; source format `1.0`
-> `3.0 (quilt)`).

Also, there is one open bug report [2] in the Ubuntu package. I believe
the bug is not in Pynagram but in PyQt and have written about it on the
pyqt mailing list. I have not found any way to reproduce the bug
consistently; it is hard to reproduce and I will follow up on it when I
find out/figure out how to reproduce the bug.

It builds these binary packages:
pynagram - anagram word game

The package appears to be lintian clean.
(Apart from the pedantic level "P: pynagram: no-upstream-changelog")

I have been maintaining this package under PAPT and would be glad to
continue to do so. The packaging files are in PAPT's svn:

svn://svn.debian.org/python-apps/packages/pynagram/trunk/

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards

 Umang Varma
