Upstream changelog with multiple binary packages
Hi all, I'm updating several Java packages where the source package generates two binaries, libfoo-java with the compiled jars and libfoo-java-doc with the documentation. Lintian often complains about the missing upstream changelog (no-upstream-changelog). Should I put the changelog in both binary packages or only in the documentation package? Nathan, I believe that what Andrey may have meant is that there are some upstream packages that simply pay no attention to the CPPFLAGS environment variable - just as there are some that do not pay any attention to CFLAGS and LDFLAGS, either. In this case, if it turns out that your package is one of those, you basically have two options: - patch the package's build system so that it honors CPPFLAGS - do what Andrey said: in the debian/rules file, add the contents of CPPFLAGS to the CFLAGS variable that the package supposedly already honors In both cases, write to the upstream authors and ask them to honor CPPFLAGS, too. But, as somebody else wrote, we'll need to see a build log and a copy of your debian/rules file before that. Actually, it might be good to see upstream's build files (Makefile, CMakeLists.txt, etc), too, just to make sure that they do (or don't) pay attention to CPPFLAGS at all. Bug#695366: RFS: gringotts/1.2.10-1
Hi, I've uploaded a new package to mentors. Could someone review and upload it for me, please. As I say at the beginning of the bug, the actual source package in unstable builds duplicated binaries: libgringotts-dev, libgringotts2. These are provided in libgringotts already. To access further information about this package, please visit the following URL: http://mentors.debian.net/package/gringotts Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command: dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gringotts/gringotts_1.2.10-1.dsc Changes since the last upload: gringotts (1.2.10-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream release. * Move to source version 3.0 (quilt). * Split libgringotts from gringotts source package again. It's an independent library and could be useful in other software. * debian/compat: update to 9. * debian/control: - Update to debhelper 9. - Bump to Standards-Version 3.9.4. No changes required. - Add dh-autoreconf (build system too old) and libgringotts-dev to Build-Depends because of split mentioned above. - Change Vcs-* fields to point where development is done. * debian/copyright: rewrite to machine-readable format. * debian/rules: rewrite to get rid of unnecessary dependencies and add hardening flags. * Fix the location of desktop file. Updated to current standards and remove empty TryExec and X-GNOME-DocPath key. * Call xdg-open or try another options to open README and FAQ menu items (Closes: #639579). * Delete debian/README.Debian due to merge in README from upstream. Changed references in debian/gringotts.NEWS to this one. * Add doc-base control file to register FAQ document with doc-base. * Upgrade upstream's GPL version to be compatible with debian packaging. -- Jose G. Oh, yes, indeed. You may want to try to talk upstream out of that include style. It's essentially always better to not have the -I flag and instead require that programs using those headers use the full name of the header. In other words, omit -I and modify programs to do: #include visp/header_name.h The whole point of putting the headers in the visp subdirectory is for namespace management: it avoids problems if they conflict with some other header name. You don't want to then go and undo the benefit of namespace management with the -I flag so that you have to worry about conflicts with other headers of the same name again! About the only time when -I makes sense is if you're doing it for API control or alternative API selection; in other words, you have (to pick an example) apr-1.0 and apr-0.4, and you want to be able to build an application against either one without changing the source code of the application, or (more generally) you have two different implementations of the same API and you want to be able to pick between them at compile time. Based on the description of libvisp, it seems unlikely that either of those apply to it.
