I've contacted upstream author, and heard the following policy about Groonga ABI. There are two kind of policy about ABI for Groonga. * experimental APIs Groonga is shipped every month. The new release sometimes contains experimental API. There is no guarantee for it. It may be suddenly changed. Even though such a case, it doesn't regarded as ABI breakage because it is experimental. * stable APIs if this kind of APIs are changed, it needs to be raise ABI version, but these APIs are not changed yet. pgpt7BMCWx_ZJ.pgp Description: PGP signature

Normally I would suggest: Discuss it with Cesare Falco, who appears to have done most of the work in Ubuntu. Download the Ubuntu source package and continue from there, keeping the changelog entries. However, Cesare hasn't done anything since 2010 so you probably don't need to contact him. http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/b/btpd/btpd_0.16-0ubuntu2/changelog > X-Keep-In-CC: yes FYI, usually this is expressed with these mail headers: Reply-To Mail-Followup-To -- bye, pabs https://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise
Re: phonetisaurus in unstable
* Giulio Paci , 2016-06-08, 11:48: In #825236, Giulio asked me about uploading phonetisaurus to unstable. If I were the maintainer, I would hesitate to make such upload until the following is done: I forgot one thing: * phonetisaurus-calculateER should escape arguments before passing them to shell. Or, better, it should use the subprocess module instead of os.system(). * 1001_fix_binaries_return_values.patch is accepted upstream. (Are they alive?) They are alive (latest commit in their repository is from 3 months ago), although they have not made any proper release since a long time. Hmm, I had a look at the repo. "!WARNING: In Flux!"[0] and "What happened to this project?"[1] don't make me confident that this software is mature enough for a stable Debian release...
