Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: wishlist

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "atomic"

* Package name: atomic
  Version : 1.7.1-1
  Upstream Author : Atomic Project
* URL : https://github.com/projectatomic/atomic
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: Python
  Section : admin
  Description : Atomic Run Tool for installing/running/managing
container images

It builds those binary packages:

atomic: allows an image provider to specify how a container image
expects to be run

atomic-doc: various documentations and concepts behind atomic

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

 https://mentors.debian.net/package/atomic

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
https//mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/a/atomic/atomic_1.7.1-1.dsc

This project defines the entrypoint for Project Atomic hosts. On an
Atomic Host, there are at least two distinct software delivery vehicles;
Docker (often used in combination with the traditional RPM/yum/dnf), and
rpm-ostree to provide atomic upgrades of the host system.

The goal of Atomic is to provide a high level, coherent entrypoint to
the system, and fill in gaps in Linux container implementations.

For Docker, |atomic| can make it easier to interact with special kinds
of containers, such as super-privileged debugging tools and the like.

atomic host does not support Debian-based OS by now (limited to
rpm-based OS). Yet it permit to easily install/uninstall docker
container into the system.

This drastically exceeds what is appropriate for a NMU without the
maintainer's consent. Sure, the package looks neglected, but if you're
taking steps to salvage it, it wouldn't be a NMU (at least without an
explanation). And a NMU requires following the procedure.

The package is marked as team maintained, but neither do I see you among
the PhotoTools team, nor did you claim a team upload.

Thus, while your changes are welcome[1], I see confusion wrt what you're
trying to do here. Options include:
* a traditional "hostile" NMU: targetted fixes only, posting a NMU diff is
  required prior to upload
* an authorized (ie, with maintainer's consent) NMU: everything goes
* a team upload: you'd need to talk with folks of the PhotoTools team, then
  it's no longer a NMU (mark as "Team upload", regular version number)
* a non-team salvage: doesn't look appropriate as other packages of that
  team look alive

Meow!

[1]. That lintian override is wrong, only one paragraph can apply to a file.
I haven't done any real review other than a quick glance, thus there might
be more issues.

Bug#877708: RFS: xabacus/8.0.8+dfsg1-2 [ITA]

2017-10-04 Thread Innocent De Marchi
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

  Dear mentors,

  I am looking for a sponsor for my package "xabacus"

 * Package name: xabacus
   Version : 8.0.8+dfsg1-2
   Upstream Author : David A. Bagley
 * URL : http://www.sillycycle.com/abacus/
 * License : Custom
   Section : games

  It builds those binary packages:

xabacus- simulation of the ancient calculator (plain X version)
 xmabacus - simulation of the ancient calculator (Motif version)

  To access further information about this package, please visit the
  following URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/xabacus

  Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this
  command:

dget -x

https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/x/xabacus/xabacus_8.0.8+dfsg1-2.dsc

  More information about xabacus can be obtained from
  http://www.sillycycle.com/abacus/

  Changes since the last upload:

  * New maintainer (Closes: #870519).
  * Deleted unnecessary sources directory win32 and repackaging.
  * Update debian/watch file to version 4 and added dversionmangle
option.
  * Update Standards-Version (4.1.1):
- Removed autotools-dev dependency on debian/control.
  * Added Chris Lamb patch on debian/rules (Closes: #865994).
  * Changed the Priority field to optional from xmabacus
on debian/control.
  * Removed duplicate field Priority on debian/control.
  * Fix typo error on debian/copyright.
  * Added Keywords field on debian/*.desktop files.
  * Removed obsolete menu files on debian directory.
  * Re-written the debian / copyright file to the standard 1.0 format.

There is a new version available but it does not compile properly in
Debian. I am in contact with the author and he plans to publish a new
version with the necessary changes.

  Regards,
   Innocent De Marchi

So I see. If your usual mentor/sponsor is too busy, I'm open to filling
in for him or her, at least for this one upload, though I will need to
take a closer look at your latest changes first.

Meanwhile, please do consider addressing your remaining Lintian
diagnostics (the E and the Ws at
https://lintian.debian.org/full/m...@immerda.ch.html#usbguard_0.7.0_x2bds1-1)
and checking whether you actually need locales-all as a build
dependency. I won't insist on immediate action on either of those
fronts, though.

Thanks!
