Please do not close RFS in this cases, so that the context is maintained.
A RFS should be only be closed when uploaded (or when there is no longer
something to sponsor).

When you have a new version, please recycle the bug, and retitle it
appropiatly.

Thanks!

Did you ask him if he still is interested in maintaining the package?

That is unrelated. alioth is still working. However this is another sign
that the package is no longer in active maintaince.
I suggest to mail kibi and just ask him whether it is and maybe (if you
want) whether you could add yourself as Co-Maintainer.

(You maybe also want to file a bug the the repository is defunc.)

Thanks for the explanation, but then this should be documented in the bug and
the severity increased (IMHO to important).

How is it fixed upstream? The bug has no info...
Looking for upstream... It seems that there is no newer release
at the site mentioned in d/copyright.

May I recommend to more documentation to the BTS... This not only helps
assessing the situation but also might help later people taking a look
at the same bugs -- to avoid duplicate work.

Without the informatiion in this RFS this bug would be clearly a wontfix,
but when #884176 is severity important, this might be in a scope of a
NMU. But please check with kibi ask asked above...

Remove the moreinfo tag when ready.

Thanks for contributing to Debian!

Oh, now I see that there exists such a team. :) (But apparently searching for
emacsen-team
on the search bar on the top right corner on the Salsa front page won't find
it. Maybe that
only searches for projects.)

I still think you should update your Vcs-Git and Vcs-Browser for the new

  Dear mentors,

  I am looking for a sponsor for my package "ncurses-hexedit"

 * Package name: ncurses-hexedit
   Version : 0.9.7+orig-1
   Upstream Author : Adam Rogoyski
 * URL : http://www.rogoyski.com/adam/programs/hexedit/
 * License : GPL-2.0+
   Section : editors

  It builds this binary package:

ncurses-hexedit - Edit files/disks in hex, ASCII and EBCDIC

  To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/ncurses-hexedit

  Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/n/ncurses-hexedit/ncurses-hexedit_0.9.7+orig-1.dsc

  Changes have also been pushed to
https://salsa.debian.org/e7appew-guest/ncurses-hexedit.git.

  Changes since the last upload:

  * New maintainer. (Closes: #873553)
  * Convert source to '3.0 (quilt)' format.
  * Build with Debhelper compat level 11. (Closes: #595051) (LP: #881825)
  * debian/control:
- Add homepage details.
- Indicate compliance with Debian Policy 4.1.3.
- Add VCS details.
  * debian/rules:
- Build with all hardening flags set.
  * debian/patches:
- Update autoconf files for version 2.69.
- Fix conflicting definitions of ncurses' WINDOW. (Closes: #701670)
- Generate an INFO-DIR-SECTION without ".info" for info file.
  (Closes: #551671)
- Fix compilation warnings.
- Don't prompt about quitting without saving if file is unmodified.
  (Closes: #652947)
- If started in read-only mode, keep this mode for subsequent
  files too.
  * Remove trailing white spaces from changelog.
  * Add watch file.
  * Revert to using unrepacked upstream tarball, since renaming the
project's top-level directory is no longer necessary with current
standards.
  * Convert debian/copyright to DEP-5 format and update.
  * Add debian/gbp.conf.

Package: sponsorship-requests

Dear mentors,

I'm looking for a sponsor for my package "gnustep-back". This version
requires gnustep-gui/0.26.2-1 which is in the NEW queue. I have
included an additional link to the .dsc for convenience.

 * Package name: gnustep-back
   Version : 0.26.2-1
   Upstream Author : Fred Kiefer ,
 Adam Fedor ,
 Alexander Malmberg ,
 Banlu Kemiyatorn  and many others
 * URL : http://gnustep.org
 * License : LGPL-2+ (bundles), GPL-3+ (tools)
   Section : gnustep

It builds these binary packages:

gnustep-back-common - GNUstep GUI Backend - common files
gnustep-back0.26 - GNUstep GUI Backend
gnustep-back0.26-art - GNUstep GUI Backend (art)
gnustep-back0.26-cairo - GNUstep GUI Backend (cairo)
gnustep-back0.26-xlib - GNUstep GUI Backend (xlib)

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/gnustep-back

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnustep-back/gnustep-back_0.26.2-1.dsc
  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnustep-gui/gnustep-gui_0.26.2-1.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

  [ Eric Heintzmann ]
  * debian/rules:
+ Remove -shared-libgcc LDFLAG, now useless.
+ Append --as-needed LDFLAG.
+ Hardening: remove -pie option.
+ Now build depends on latest gnustep-gui package.
  * debian/control:
+ Bump Standards Versions to 4.1.0.
+ As requested by Gürkan, change his name.
  * New fix-spelling-error.patch.
  * Add a testsuite.

  [ Yavor Doganov ]
  * New upstream release 0.26.2:
+ Rename packages following the SONAME change:
  - gnustep-back0.25 -> gnustep-back0.26
  - gnustep-back0.25-art -> gnustep-back0.26-art
  - gnustep-back0.25-cairo -> gnustep-back0.26-cairo
+ New package gnustep-back0.26-xlib: prepare for removal of the art
  backend due to removal of src:libart-lgpl (Addresses: #885786).
  * debian/watch: Switch to ftp.gnustep.org; much more reliable.
  * debian/compat: Bump compat level to 11.
  * debian/rules: Replace shell comments with makefile comments; M-x
wh-cl. Use convenience variables where possible.
(DEB_LDFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND): Add -Wl,--no-undefined.
(override_dh_testdir): New target to regenerate debian/control.
(override_dh_auto_configure): Substitute GNUSTEP_SYSTEM_DOC as well
when generating gnustep-back-common.install. Configure the xlib
backend in a separate builddir; handle the generation of maintainer
scripts and .install/.links files.
(override_dh_auto_build): Pass dpkg-buildflags explicitly as OBJCFLAGS
and CFLAGS are being reset by gnustep-make. Build documentation.
Pass $(optim) for proper noopt support. Pass tools=no and fonts=no to
the cairo build. Remove unnecessary tools recipe; add one for xlib.
(override_dh_auto_install): Install documentation and the xlib
backend.
(override_dh_auto_clean): Clean documentation; ignoring errors.
Simplify the recipe.
(override_dh_strip): Remove in favor of automatic -dbgsym packages.
(override_dh_shlibdeps): Add override to fix circular dependencies;
regression introduced in 0.25.0-1 (Closes: #882078). Thanks to Bill
Allombert for the report.
  * debian/templates/control.m4: Remove -dbg, add new package -xlib.
(Build-Depends): Require debhelper >= 11 and gnustep-make >= 2.7.0-3
for the optim variable definition.
(Section): Remove section "libs" for all packages as it is wrong
according to lintian (and to me).
(Depends): Relax dependencies on -common to ease transitions with the
ultimate goal to support partial upgrades.
(Breaks, Replaces): Remove; obsolete.
(Standards-Version): Declare compliance with 4.1.3.
  * debian/control: Regenerate.
  * debian/templates/gnustep-back-common.install.in: Add
@GNUSTEP_SYSTEM_DOC@/*.

This is the current description for reference. There is similar
topic at the end of the mail, where improvements are discussed
in detail.

===
 The tool supports asynchronous, local-coordinated, distributed
 secure backup generation, forwarding, verification, storage
 and deletion even in rugged environments. The system is open
 to integration of own code. The codebase is very small and
 kept simple to ease auditing.
 .
 Unlike business backup solutions, guerillabackup also considers
 following conditions that might be encountered with private use:
 * infrastructure uptime below 99%, e.g. machines not always powered
 * poor network connectivity, e.g. mobile access, parallel video
   streaming
 * poor physical access and anti-theft protection of machines
 * no security monitoring of machines
 .
 See /usr/share/doc/guerillabackup/Design.txt.gz section "Requirements"
 for more information.

The current git repository is hosted on Alioth, which will be shut down and
replaced
by Salsa[1]. You should probably migrate the repository there.

It seems that there isn't a Salsa team corresponding to pkg-emacsen yet, so I
suggest you
coordinate with the pkg-emacsen folks to create one.

So, in #884176 you attacted a debdiff also fixing #843837 - where did it
end?
Anyway, if you want to fix that but by that patch, please first forward
it upstream and put valid DEP-3 headers on it.

sponsoring NMUs accomplishing that, but not that I haven't marked myself

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "streamlink"

 * Package name: streamlink
   Version : 0.8.1-2
   Upstream Author : Streamlink Team
 * URL : https://streamlink.github.io/
 * License : BSD-2-clause, Apache-2.0, MIT/Expat, SIL-OFL-1.1
   Section : python

It builds those binary packages:

  python3-streamlink - Python module for extracting video streams from
various websites
  python3-streamlink-doc - CLI for extracting video streams from various
websites (documentation)
  streamlink - CLI for extracting video streams from various websites to
a video

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:
  https://mentors.debian.net/package/streamlink

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/streamlink/streamlink_0.8.1-2.dsc

This package is a fork of livestreamer package which is going to be removed
(See #877485).

I have already working packaging here (which is why the version is not -1):
  https://github.com/amurzeau/streamlink-debian.

Some notes about it:
 - I use git-buildpackage with pristine-tar to keep the exact original
   tar.
 - I have additional files .travis.yml and travis-build/ used to build
   packages on travis-ci.
 - The generated changes file after build does not include the upstream
   signature (orig.tar.gz.asc) as git-buildpackage does not handle it
   yet. Because of that, I have the lintian warning
   orig-tarball-missing-upstream-signature on the changes file.
   (See #872864).

Default permissions for possible sensitive information places

2018-01-22 Thread Frédéric Bonnard
Hi,
upstream of rear software installs /etc/rear/ /etc/rear/cert/ and
/etc/rear/local.conf with no permissions to group and others, because
those may contain sensitive information (I guess encryption key for
example) ; details here : https://github.com/rear/rear/issues/1666
I'm wondering about this being the good thing to do, by default, given
that there's nothing confidential by default and that it diverges by
what is suggested by the policy :
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/#permissions-and-owners
- /etc/rear/ and /etc/rear/cert/ : I guess maybe it would make sense for
a directory targeted to store keys for example and even in that case,
only setting correct permission for the key files themselves would be
enough.
- local.conf : for configuration file that may contain sensitive
information but which default version (from the package) doesn't include
anything, does that make sense ? the admin putting sensible information
should then change the configuration file permission to reflect that.

Also rear/backups in general is a sysadmin activity and hiding all
/etc/rear to non-root won't be an issue.
And I agree that setting by default restrictive permission may be good as
the admin backuping won't even need to take care of that.
But this does more than just what's needed (atomic, necessary and
sufficient based on the actual content) and deviates from Debian
defaults. So I'm a bit confused.

Do you know of some Debian usage in that case or if I missed some policy
point ?

F.

Bug#887595: RFS: xft/2.3.2-1.1 [NMU]

2018-01-22 Thread Hugh McMaster
Hi Julien,

On Monday, 22 January 2018 7:49 AM, Julien Cristau wrote:
> IMO this is nothing that warrants a NMU, or an upload on its own.

Sure, perhaps not in the current RFS form. That said, I'm hoping we can
reach some agreement on releasing a new version of xft. Here are some
reasons why.

1. Cyril Brulebois is listed in Uploaders, but he hasn't been part of
   Debian XFS for some years now.
2. The VCS URL in the Package Tracker no longer functions, due to the
   recent migration to Debian Salsa.
3. The package standards version is 3.9.2 ("ancient").
4. The lack of Multi-Arch awareness blocks multi-arch support for
   libpango1.0-dev and libfontforge-dev. These packages, in turn,
   block Wine.
5. As for fixing other bugs, #843837 should be tagged 'wontfix',
   since it is an upstream issue (fixed some time ago). I don't know
   enough about the other three bugs to comment.

Marking libxft-dev Multi-Arch: same is particularly important to me,
so I'm hoping you can update the package with the above points
in mind.

Thanks for your email.
