I have not tested the functionality, but the packaging seems sound.

In NEW.

I just wanted to add that orphaning doesn't imply future removal. Unless
the package is in a bad shape while having very few users, it's not going
to be removed.

If you are intending to adopt the package, you should rename the O
(Orphaned) bug to ITA (Intent To Adopt) and create an updated package
fixing some of the issues and naming yourself as maintainer. Then, if
you need a sponsor, upload the package to mentors.debian.net and create
a RFS (Request For Sponsorship) bug to request that a Debian Developer
review and upload the package for you.

Sadly that does happen. Good that you presist.
( How to do good presistence is another story )

  (-:learning is making mistakes :-)

Retitle the bug from "O" to "ITA" and do the actual work, next is "RFS"

Bug#926731: ITS: urlscan/0.9.2 - extract and browse email URLs

2019-04-09 Thread Boruch Baum
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: important

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the existing debian package "urlscan[1]",
used by email clients such as mutt to parse and pipe embedded urls. The
debian package is an update and improvement to another debian package
"urlview", but[2] the debian version of "urlscan" is ten point releases
and over three years behind the upstream, the debian maintainer seems
not active[3], and that maintainer's sponsor has expressed to me a lack
of interest. Based upon an email from Paul Wise[4], and from reading the
debian manual[5], I guess the correct bureaucratic procedure is to start
a 'salvage' process; the circumstances seem to clearly fit within the
criteria of [5][6].

I am not subscribed to the debian-mentors mailing list, so please
include me directly in all replies. The remainder of this email is based
upon the RFS template[7].

 Package name: urlscan

no response Fwd: Bug#905080: O: as31 - Intel 8031/8051 assembler

2019-04-09 Thread Albert van der Horst

I followed up on a "orphaned bug" by adding a message to the bug 905080.
This got never a response. Did I make a mistake with respect to the
Debian protocols?
I seem to remember that I got a confirmation that in "due course" a
Debianist would

respond.
And no, the 8051 is not dead by a long stretch. So deleting from the
Debian distribution is not good.

Package: wnpp
Severity normal

I no longer have any personal need for as31, so would like to drop it
from the list of packages I maintain.

I recently uploaded a fix for the segfault encountered building the
usbdux driver in the firmware-nonfree source package. The only
remaining open bug regards the ambiguity of upstream asserting the
package is under "the BSD license" without specifying which precise
variant.

To the best of my knowledge, no packages in Debian depend on as31, but
because there is a driver (that is not built for Debian by default) in
the firmware-nonfree package that depends on it, I choose to orphan the
package rather than just asking for it to be removed from the archive.

I looked into this package and the upstream archive just exists.
Moreover the package is up to date w.r.t. upstream since 2005.
Apparently

this is a superstable package where the last bugs disappeared ages ago.

I would regret if this package disappears from Debian, because
- the 8051 has historic interest, but also to this day practical
interest
- the assembler is a solid piece of software engineering, so it is worth
maintaining and probably not overly time consuming.
- if nothing else, it can serve as an example of the use of lex and
yacc.

After studying the project I'm willing to take on the orphaned 8051
assembler as31.

My credentials:
- dedicated to the free software movement (author of some free software)
- unix/c experience since the 80's
- sworn in as a maintainer at debian mentors (thanks, Geert Stappers!)
- some experience with Debian packaging, and some familiarity with
  the policy and guidelines
- extensive experience with software maintenance (as well as
development)
- affinity with the 8051, owner of dozens of single board computers,
among

them a couple 8051 based
- Published a flash programmer for an Elektor board with a 8051
processor:

https://forth.hcc.nl/w/Producten/Flash
- a direct personal line to Willem Ouwerkerk, creator of a 8051
development

   system

As urlscan is a python script, you may want to reach out to Python packaging
team.

The Python page in Debian wiki [1] contains information on how to contact them
and the main pointers to package python for Debian.
