Bug#1031698: RFS: dhcpdump/1.8-5 [QA] -- Parse DHCP packets from tcpdump

2023-02-20 Thread Boian Bonev
Hi,

First thing to change (after the missing binary) is the description - the tool
no longer executes and parses tcpdump's output, instead it uses libpcap
directly to get the packets. The man page needs the same correction.

The build completely ignores the default hardening and optimization flags. This
breaks both cross and reproducible builds.

tcpdump should be removed from Depends.

Isn't it better to depend on libpcap-dev? (libpcap0.7-dev isn't in any
supported release)

Current standards are 4.6.2.

d/copyright may benefit from a DEP5 conversion.

Now I see that there are 3 open bugs, maybe at least two or even all can be
fixed by this upload?

I have several patches for this tool hanging around since 2013, I did try to
send them to upstream back then but they either got lost or ignored. All of
them are fixing behavioral bugs.

I think it is a good idea to add these patches while doing the QA upload. I
need to add the proper headers and will post after an ACK.

2023-02-20 Thread Bo YU
Hi,

This RFS and another two RFS #1031708 ,#1031683 were the same packages
that need to be uploaded.
This is redundant. I suggest you merge these RFSs into one RFS and
then wait someone to sponsor.
I doubt it will be uploaded before bookworm release.

Hi!
I believe it's better if packages carry some non-metadata contents, which
the new version currently lacks...

Hi min sun,

   Hi, Pierre Gruet:

   Thanks for your kind advice.

And thanks for your work on this package!
I have just uploaded as is to experimental. I will try to remember
uploading it to unstable after the release of Bookworm, but please drop
an email if I fail to do so.

I think it is really fine to care for this package now, but as we are in

the soft freeze period, I would upload to experimental: I used

japi-compliance-checker to see the differences between the jars in

version 4.2-1 and in (your candidate) 4.4-1, and there has been a small

number of (upstream) return types changes. The number of

reverse-dependencies is too large to be tested with ratt at home.

All the warnings are solved and please see Upload #3.

But for the ratt, it’s really a headache for me too.

Could I leave it for the Debian CI ?

Definitely we won't handle this individually with ratt. Still, within a
few hours the package will be installed in experimental so it is
feasible to manually rebuild the direct (i.e. non transitive)
reverse-dependencies while adding the experimental repository.

Please tell me if there are any issues still need to be fixed.

Best !

Thanks again,

Yes, Antoine contacted me and gave me some very useful guidance on how to get
the package closer to completion. He also told me about the RFS process and
that he would be happy to sponsor it :)

I made this RFS mostly because I thought it is a necessary part of the process
of submitting a package as an external to the project.

wl-mirror by default uses the wlr-export-dmabuf protocol extension to receive
frames from the compositor. The compositor hands wl-mirror a dmabuf handle,
which is a handle to frame data already in VRAM on the GPU. Importing it into
EGL and rendering to the screen therefore does not include copying it to the
CPU and back, which is why the CPU overhead does not depend that much on screen
resolution and activity in the image.

On some devices, that doesn't work though, and wl-mirror does have a fallback
mode using the wlr-screencopy protocol extension where it receives the frame
data on the CPU via shared memory (--backend screencopy), which is heavier on
the CPU than just transmitting a handle.

Both of these only work on wlroots-based compositors like sway, though. Support
for other compositors like KWin and Gnome is something I have planned, but will
still need a lot more work, since I have to use XDG Portals and Pipewire to
receive the screen data, and I also need to add window decorations to make it
usable on those compositors.

>
>cheers, josch

Thank _you_ :)

Cheers, Ferdinand
