Re: RFS: Airoscript

2008-12-10 Thread أحمد المحمودي
IANADD, yet I find some issues in your package:

1. Your packages depends on grep (>= 5), yet the latest version of grep
in Debian is something like 2.5. What's so important about grep version
anyways ?

2. lintian -Ii gives a couple of other issues:
I: airoscript source: debian-watch-file-is-missing

This can be done by adding something like those lines in debian/watch:

version=3
http://code.google.com/p/airoscript/downloads/list
(?:.*/)?airoscript-?([\d+\.]+|\d+)\.tgz debian uupdate

I: airoscript source: build-depends-without-arch-dep gettext

That can be solved by putting gettext in Build-Depends-Indep: field
instead of Depends: field.

I think that's the lintian error you meant:
E: airoscript: depends-on-essential-package-without-using-version depends: grep

The reason is that you put an essential package "grep" in the Depends:
field, you do not need an essential package in the Depends: field unless
you need a specific version of that essential package. So since it
doesn't matter which version of "grep" exists, so you can just remove
grep from the Depends: field.

Btw, since there is an experimental 'screen' support, maybe 'screen'
should be added to Suggests: field.

2009-01-25 Thread أحمد المحمودي
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 2.0~b4-1
of my package "tkgate".

It builds these binary packages:
tkgate - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator
tkgate-data - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator
tkgate-doc - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tkgate
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tkgate/tkgate_2.0~b4-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

RFS: sl-modem (updated package)

2009-01-25 Thread أحمد المحمودي
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 2.9.11~20080817-2
of my package "sl-modem".

It builds these binary packages:
sl-modem-daemon - SmartLink software modem daemon
sl-modem-source - SmartLink software modem driver - module building source

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 421867, 507340, 512332
I need advice with using usermod though (used to fix 507340).
Also, I have added DKMS support.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/s/sl-modem
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/s/sl-modem/sl-modem_2.9.11~20080817-2.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Sorry that I said that the package is lintian clean, I used the template
that was in mentors.debian.net (seems that there is an old version of
lintian there), and I totally forgot about this warning. I think that
it is fine too, because that package actually builds another package (if
module-assistant is used), or just builds some module files (if DKMS is
used).

Pedantic messages are prefixed with P:

I fixed & uploaded, except for one patch (04_sregs_init.diff). That was
introduced by previous maintainer. And I don't know what it does.

Again, please advise me about the use of usermod in the postinst.

Thanks for the push ! I found out that it is an obsolete patch !
Previous maintainer had to remove it since 2.9.9e-pre1a. (I had to dig
into snapshot.debian.net to find out).

Was trying something, and forgot to uncomment it back ! Sorry ! Anyways,
it is fixed now in the current upload.

Well, the only method that I know is do a pbuilder login, then I build
the package (after manually apt-get'ing its Build-Deps), so:

  $ pbuilder login
  # apt-get install
  # dpkg-source -x .dsc
  # cd
  # ./debian/rules build (or whatever)

RFS: NEW: libkal 0.9.0-1

   Version : 0.9.0
   Debian Revision : 1
   Upstream Author : Petr Tomasek
 * URL : http://www.etf.cuni.cz/~tomasek/pub/

   Long description:
The 'libkal' library provides support for converting dates between various
calendar systems (currently only julianic, gregorianic, arabic and jewish
ones) and some more related stuff.

The basic idea of this library is, that any date in any calendar system can be
converted to a single number, which express the number of days since some
fixed date in the past. libkal uses the so-called 'julianic date'(jd), that is
 used in Astronomy (not exactly).

 It builds these binary packages:
libkal-dev - library for converting dates between various calendar systems

At the end of the README it says to use mountlo, but there isn't such

Actually what happens implicitly (at least on Ubuntu precise) is:
  $(CC) $(CFLAGS) $(LDFLAGS) $^ -o $@

which causes the compilation to fail, because the -l<...> should be
after the object files (or source files in this case).

Advice regarding packages that can only be upgraded via dist-upgrade

2009-12-03 Thread أحمد المحمودي
Hello,

I am working on geda-gaf package [1]. It is almost ready except for a
single issue: to upgrade the several geda-* packages, they can only
  upgrade using apt-get dist-upgrade, ie. an apt-get upgrade won't
upgrade them, the reason is that the new release of geda-* packages
depend on a libgeda38, while the old release of geda-* packages depend
  on libgeda33. So I've put a Replaces: libgeda33 in libgeda38, yet that
still does not make it work. Is there a solution for this ? Or is that
acceptable, and I should just leave it as is ?

I've attached the debian/control file with this email.

[1] Previously geda* packages were distributed in several tarballs
until 1.4.x releases, then in release 1.5, upstream decided to
distributed geda in a single tarball called geda-gaf.

RFS: UPDATE: sl-modem 2.9.11~20100303-1

2010-03-10 Thread أحمد المحمودي
Hello,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 2.9.11~20100303-1 of
   sl-modem.

   It builds these binary packages:
sl-modem-daemon - SmartLink software modem daemon
sl-modem-source - SmartLink software modem driver - module building source

The latest entry in the Debian changelog is:
sl-modem (2.9.11~20100303-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
+ Fixes NO CARRIER issue with linux kernel >= 2.6.31
  * Dropped 2.6.31.diff patch, as it got applied upstream.
  * Refreshed debian/sl-modem-source.lintian-overrides
  * debian/control: Added DM-Upload-Allowed field.

As required, I tested the package against unstable's version of lintian and it
 is lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
 - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/s/sl-modem
 - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
 - dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/s/sl-modem/sl-modem_2.9.11~20100303-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards,

According to [1], it should be safe to remove the .la file for this
package, since it is not in Debian yet, so for sure there isn't any
reverse dependency that lists it in the depdency_libs field of its .la
file.

1) I think it should still close an ITP bug.

How about adding some field to the dummy transitional package
(oldpackagename), a field that indicates that it is a dummy transitional
package. Hence apt would markauto "oldpackagename", and unmarkauto the
"newpackagename". So if the user runs apt-get autoremove, the dummy
transiational packages would be selected for removal.

dh_installdocs --link-doc not allowed between arch dep & arch indep?

2017-09-30 Thread أحمد المحمودي
Hello

The package pcb builds 2 arch. dependent packages (pcb-gtk & pcb-lesstif) and
an arch independent package (pcb-common) which contains data and documentation.
Hence the arch. dependent packages depend on this arch independent package.

Previously I ran:
dh_installdocs --link-doc=pcb-common

which worked fine, yet after updating to compat level 10, I get the build
error:

dh_installdocs: --link-doc not allowed between pcb-gtk and pcb-common (one is
arch:all and the other not)

I checked the manpage which mentions that a link from arch. dependent to arch.
independent will not work, what is the reason for this? Especially that my use
case seems very sensible. Is there a workaround?

Please reply me directly since I am not subscribed to the list.

I remember I saw something like this in Ubuntu Natty, and the reason was
that the binary package was build using an old gcc, so the fix was to
rebuild the binary package using the gcc in the current toolchain.

No, it's not always free. For example, it happens with me sometimes that
X would crash for some reason, and while it respawns it detects that vt7
is still used (probably not freed yet from previously crashed X), hence
it respawns in vt8 instead of vt7.

Elinks is only compiled with javascript, but it is disabled by default.
ie. the user has to switch it on.

Re-uploaded elinks, with libmozjs60-dev | libmozjs-dev (removed obsolete
libmozjs185-dev)
