You need to open an ITP bug in the BTS, and close it in the Initial

My motivation for maintaining this package is to provide an easy to

Few things I noticed during a quick glance at your package.

-There are spurious slashes in your debian/copyright file.

-You should think about using minimal dh7 in your debian/rules.

-Your standards version is way out of date, current is 3.8.4

-Does your package only work on AMD64? If it does not, change
Architecture: amd64 to Architecture: any

-Your debian/watch file only needs to contain 2 line; the version equals
3 line, and http://log69.com/downloads/aaphoto_sources_v(.*).tar.gz

-You should cleanup debian/copyright, and use proper indentation and
formatting.

Thanks,
Chris

Just search the manpage for 'overriden' and replace it with 'overridden'.

The first value is the misspelling and the second is the proper spelling.

Re: Joining Debian

2010-02-08 Thread Chris Taylor
Hi Luis,

You should take a look at the documents located at http://www.debian.org/devel/

Namely you should read the New Maintainers Guide:
http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide/
The Debian Developers' Reference:
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/
And you should also read the Debian Policy Manual:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/

Those documents will most likely answer many questions that you might have.

If you have any specific questions, you can of course ask them.

Heya Laurent,

Your package is not lintian clean. In your debian/ folder if you need to
remove all files that end in .ex that you will not be using, if you are
using them you need to rename them to remove the .ex extension.

You should run lintian against your package and fix all the errors that
it states.

IE:

In your debian/control you need to set Standards-Version: 3.8.0

You should create a watch file for you package so that DEHS and various
QA scripts can check if the package is up-to-date automagically.

In your debian/rules you should remove the fluff and unneeded comments.

You need to rename the tar.gz file to dhcp-probe_1.2.2a-1.orig.tar.gz

These are just a few of the problems i found with a cursory glance at
your package.

Chris

Re: RFS: daemonlogger

2007-11-14 Thread Chris Taylor
You might want to add this to your ~/.quiltrc and regen the patches:

 QUILT_REFRESH_ARGS=-p0 --no-timestamps --no-index

These help in creating patch files that are more friendly to people
 using interdiff on your diff.gz.

Lintian warnings when run with -I:

 I: daemonlogger: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
 usr/share/man/man1/daemonlogger.1.gz:45
 I: daemonlogger: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
 usr/share/man/man1/daemonlogger.1.gz:71
 I: daemonlogger: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
 usr/share/man/man1/daemonlogger.1.gz:72

No need to install the NEWS file

The readme says: This code is largely untested and probably
completely shoddy. YMMV., is it really that untested? Presumably you
have tested it yourself and can patch that statement out?

The upstream source tarball contains ._COPYING and ._ChangeLog - I
assume these are from MacOS X, please ask upstream to remove them in
the next version (teaching them about make dist should be enough).

 When building, I see this:

 cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -g -Wall -O2 -g -O0 -Wall -I/usr/include -c
 daemonlogger.c
 cc -g -Wall -O2 -g -O0 -Wall -I/usr/include -L/usr/lib -ldumbnet -o
 daemonlogger daemonlogger.o -lpcap -ldumbnet

IIRC, debian policy is to use -O2 unless DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt is
set, please fix this to use only one -OX flag and check if noopt
 works.

I updated the changelog and added patches for README and the makefile to
remove the extra -O0 and use CDBS set CFLAGS. I also refreshed the patches
using the changes to my ~/.quiltrc that you suggested.

I added lintian overrides for those errors as they are false positives.

I am going to contact upstream about making a cleaner tarball. I had
previously submitted the manpage 3 months ago (2 versions ago).

The actual location of the packages is:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/daemonlogger/daemonlogger_1.0.1-1.dsc

Re: RFS: audtty

The package does not build for me. It fails with: Unmet build
 dependencies: automake. I have automake1.4 and automake1.7
specifically installed. Once I installed the virtual automake (which
provides automake 1.10), it then built o.k. You may want to specify
automake1.10 specifically as a Builds-Depends. You could stick with
automake, but what happens when the virtual package automake
provides automake1.11 in the future. Will your package break?

The changelog shows 2 entries - an initial release and then an
update. Since this is the first release, why not just one entry?
Also, you have two bugs open for audtty (one RFP and one ITP). You
should have retitled the RFP to an ITP and taken it over instead of
the two separate bugs you now have. You may want to merge them now
and then close just one bug in your changelog. Any way you do it,
just make sure both bugs get closed once the package is uploaded.

Is this a spelling mistake in debian/rules:

 DEB_MAKE_CHEACK_TARGET =
Does it do anything? And why the commented out line:

I fixed the spelling error, and cleaned up the rules file a bit. This rule
tells CDBS that the makefile does not contain a check target, making sure
that it does not attempt to call it.

I cleaned up the build-depends in debian/control, because the automake
dependency was not needed as the only autotool used is autoconf.

Drop README.Debian since it is empty.

Remove the comments and cruft from debian/watch. You only need 2
 lines in that file.

You need to clean up the debian/copyright file. See the package
 csstidy for an example.

I removed the unneeded README.Debian, and cleaned up the debian/watch
file. I also redid the debian/copyright file, as well as the changelog.
The ITP bug was also closed, i changed it so that in the changelog the
package closes the RFP.

I uploaded the fixed packages to mentors.debian.net

Thanks for taking a look at it.
