the fix for #491730 moves the library to a new location. yes, this new
location is correct. but the problem with that is that some scripts
will still be trying to load it at the old location. uploading this
will probably break the (probably modified to account for the
incorrect location of xmlsimple) versions of activesupport and rails
in Debian, so unless you are coordinating very closely with those
maintainers, this new version could cause problems. Also, anybody who
is using their own script with xmlsimple will probably be requiring
the library at it's old location, so that will cause additional
problems for them. The proper way to fix this problem is to include a
loading stub, as Adam suggested in the bug report.

that is why i have adopted this package.
Yes i do understand that maintaining an build packages is much harder

I have knowledge of other packages like apt ,quilt which you were

shape.

I really do understand that your Debian System knowledge will be much
better then mine and if you think that there are good build packages
are available and we don't need this .I will go ahead then raise a
request for removing from Debian .(or if you want you can raise it ).

Need mode guidance to learn from mentors.

  Hi ,
Nothing is wrong with apt-get -b BUT It is not designed to enhance

by producing optimized binaries, however this may be achieved with
the aid of companion packages such as 'pentium-builder' or
  'athlon-builder'.
The prime purpose of this package is to ease the testing of compiler
patches such as the Stack Smashing Protection patch available from
  IBM.

Please post the long description - this sounds like a very specialised
package that should indicate this in the description if not in the
 package name.

debian-builder appears to be far too generic - there would be no reason
to rebuild more than a few packages with such a tool IMHO.

How many more (vanity) build systems must we have
there are many and besically it depends how the community uses them,.

No, it is how many Debian should support. There is a great deal of
controversy about build systems right now and you have not yet given any
convincing evidence of why this one should be added.

The problem with all build systems is that they start out as useful for
a few problems but soon they are adopted for packages outside that
remit which then depend on them and from which maintainers do not want
 to move.

What is the role for this package with regard to packages to be uploaded
to Debian? What differences does your build system introduce that would
cause the binaries to differ from those inspected by the security team?
Why not simply use quilt or some other patch system and an existing
build tool - script it in shell if necessary.

Are you aware of the issues with introducing a new build tool? What are
your answers for the problems currently being discussed in Debian around
such build tools, patch systems and source package changes with regard
 to your package?

A build tool is not an ordinary package. You need to work a lot harder
(now and forever more) to show that you can maintain this package in
the round and improve it to meet future changes as-yet-unknown.

I'd be surprised if this is achievable without being part of the
 upstream team for this package.

Of course, I can't imagine an ANSI library would be anything more than a

extremely verbose/pedantic strings which can be distilled quite a lot).

I'm amused to see this idea show up as a Ruby library. I and another
person wrote the Term::ANSIColor Perl module after a comp.lang.perl.misc
discussion many years ago, and indeed, it's mostly just a set of
definitions, but it's handy to be able to do things like:

$string = colored ($string, 'white on_blue');

Yes I do agree with your point ,the reason to package this library is
if somebody want to replace ansicolor library from perl to ruby the
batter idea is to use ruby term ansicolor library.

And curses based library is good but they both works in a different way.
Output might come same.but its depends upon how the end user want to use.

so there's some glue and a few functions. From the name, it wouldn't
surprise me if the Ruby module works similarly (I haven't looked at it).

For a one-off module that we put together on a whim, the Perl module has
been amazingly popular, seems to be used all over the place, and is now
included in Perl core, so there's some indication that people really do
like having this sort of functionality.

It's not a huge problem, but it's not so nice to have all beginners
mistakes logged forever for the whole world to see.

I do agree with the Bart, that whatever mistakes people does when they
are beginners , i think no need to see for biginners .

PS:- Though i am not DD . above mentions view is my personal .

Re: RFS: libqt-perl_3.008-3

2007-03-20 Thread Deepak Tripathi

Hi ,

I have seen you comment please see the following thing.

 * Copyright should give years on which the code has been
worked on

See the ChangeLog File and /debian/changelog
file. :FIXED

 * control is badly written in the build-dep section, some
comas not
 well placed

:-FIXED
 * You should remove the changelog.dch.foo file in debian/

:FIXED

 Now the important part:
Looking at the diff.gz, there are some important changes in
upstream
 sources.

Some of the I understand, such as:
-
 my $doc_dir =
 File::Spec-catdir($x{'datadir'},PerlQt-3);
 my $doc_dir =
/usr/share/doc/libqt-perl/tutorial;

:FIXED
IT IS BECAUSE WE CHANGE THE MODULE DEPENDENCY LIKE DOC WILL TAKE
PATH
FROM /tutorial DIRECTORY.

Some of them I don't see the point, like
 -/* The size of a `char *', as computed by sizeof. */
+/* The size of `char *', as computed by sizeof. */

:FIXED

 or:
 +=head1 NAME
 +
+PerlQt - Perl interface to the Qt GUI Widget toolkit
 +

and some I even wonder what it is about, like this:
 +eval 'exec /usr/bin/perl -S $0 ${1+$@}'
+if 0; # not running under some shell
 +
repeated a lot of times for two files...

These are coming from MakeMakers fixin function which adjusts
the
shebang:
