Ah, now I understand it better:-) Whatevery autotools mandates, you still don't need to install empty or duplicate documents in the Debian package (i.e.: list them in debian/docs). In that case I have decided to move it out of the deb-pacakages and only leave it in source as it has nothing to do with the usage of the packages on Debian. Could only be of interest to developers who will restore back to squire one. -- Hilsen/Regards Michael Rasmussen Get my public GnuPG keys: michael rasmussen cc http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xD3C9A00E mir datanom net http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xE501F51C mir miras org http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xE3E80917 -- Han Solo: Damn fool, I knew you were going to say that. Hi Thijs, Thanks for your comments they are indeed such things I look for. Some of them were solved in a newer version and the newest available version which you can find here has included fixes for your comments (I don't know how to replace an already uploaded package?). The newest version is 3.1.7-3 http://ftp.datanom.net/tptest3/ Read my comments below. On 2006-08-21 19:17:01, Thijs Kinkhorst wrote: * Re-read your changelog entry. You've left some boilerplate :) Check. Fixed in the newest version * In debian/control, you specify all packages to be i386-only. Why don't they work on other architectures? Are you sure you don't mean "any"? Check, have change it to any in the newest version. * debian/rules contains commented-out commands which is unnecessary. Done in newer version. * there's a stray debian/tptest3.files in the package. Check, have removed that from the newest version. * debian/watch does not work: no matching hrefs for watch line http://www.datanom.net/tptest/download.html tptest3-(.*)\.tar\.gz A mistake. Copy/paste is nice, sometimes:-) * You install both README and README.Debian, which have essentially the same content. A README file is mandatory using autotools. But to eliminate redundancy I have renamed README.1st to README. README now contains the upstream authors build notes. * You've got a LSB header in the init scripts but it doesn't provide dependency information. Like networking, for example? Check. I basically had to options: required or should start/stop. I have chosen required because the service will only start if a network interface is available. I have not made further requirements since the service will start if only the loop-back interface is present. I have left should start/stop in the script with zero dependencies to show the admins that, even if there are any dependencies, I have taken this into consideration but found none. Admins can the add information if needed. Eg. firewall issues etc. * tptest3-doc.install contains only a comment, so it might just as well be removed. Check. Removed in the newest version. * The package descriptions are really inadequate. How can I judge whether to install the package when I'm redirected to a manpage that's included in that package itself? Please see the developer's reference for more information on writing the description. I see your point. More descriptive information in the newest version. -- Hilsen/Regards Michael Rasmussen Get my public GnuPG keys: michael rasmussen cc http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xD3C9A00E mir datanom net http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xE501F51C mir miras org http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xE3E80917 -- Momma always said: "Life is like a box of chocolates, Forrest. Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my package "tptest3". * Package name: tptest3 Version : 3.1.7-1 Upstream Author : Ragnar Loenn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * URL : http://tptest.sourceforge.net * License : GPL Section : net It builds these binary packages: tptest3-client - cli client for the tptest3 bandwidth tester tptest3-masterserver - master server for the tptest3 bandwidth tester tptest3-testserver - reference server for the tptest3 bandwidth tester The package is lintian and linda clean. The package also compiles under pbuilder and piuparts without warning or errors. The upload would fix these bugs: 383398 The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tptest3 - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tptest3/tptest3_3.1.7-1.dsc As upstream seems to have abandoned the project I intend to make a fork. This is the reason way the orig.tar.gz is not identical to the upstream version for the following reasons: Major changes: - Restructuring of the package to follow GNU recommendations - Applying GNU autotools - Removal of sources for clients running on MS Windows and Mac OS X - Cleaning the source so it was apple to compile under gcc-4.1 without warnings - Added needed stuff according to Debian Policy - manpages etc. I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. RFS: tptest-gui
Hi list, As a long satisfied user of Debian I think it is time for me to pay something back to the community. Background: I got a new ISP and in the initial process there was some problems with having the promised bandwidth. To find out where the problems were the ISP wanted me to download and install and application which could test the bandwidth between me and the DSLAM at the ISP. Unfortunately this application was only available for MS Windows and MOSX and this particular application was the only one the ISP would take into consideration - an angry GNU/Linux user slammed the phone:-) Doing some googling directed me to a project on sourceforge - TPTEST3, which had the source code for the back-end and for the MS Windows and MSOX front-ends. All the source code was licenced under GPL in which case I decided to make a front-end for GNU/Linux using GTK2. It is this front-end I would gladly share with the Debian community. Name: tptest-gui-0.4 License: GPL Short description: The front-end uses a either a master server giving addresses of available test servers or a stand-alone test server to send or receive data, increasing the load until maximum load is discovered - automatically decided when throughput is not increased. When maximum throughput is found the user can see the statistic - Up/down TCP and UDP and an indication of available bandwidth - (TCP/UDP * 100). Long description: The initial project was developed on behalf of the Swedish Consumer Agency. A description can be found on this address: http://tptest.sourceforge.net/. Get the package from my site: http://www.datanom.net/tptest-gui/download.html You will find the source tar-ball, binary packages for Debian Sarge and Sid and finally a link to the complete source packages. Looking forward to here from you. -- Hilsen/Regards Michael Rasmussen Get my public GnuPG keys: michael rasmussen cc http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xD3C9A00E mir datanom net http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xE501F51C mir miras org http://keyserver.veridis.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xE3E80917 -- To err is human; to really foul things up requires a computer! pgpikWIqIhorc.pgp Description: PGP signature
