Bug#811237: RFS: libupnp/1:1.6.19+git20160116-1 [RC]

2016-01-16 Thread Nick Leverton
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: important

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "libupnp"

 Package name: libupnp
 Version : 1:1.6.19+git20160116-1
Upstream Author : Marcelo Roberto Jimenez <mrobe...@users.sourceforge.net>
 URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/pupnp/
 License : BSD
 Section : net

It builds those binary packages:

libupnp-dev - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices (development files)
ibupnp6 - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.6 (shared libraries)
ibupnp6-dbg - debugging symbols for libupnp6
ibupnp6-dev - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.6 (development files)
ibupnp6-doc - Documentation for the Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.6

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

http://mentors.debian.net/package/libupnp

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/libu/libupnp/libupnp_1.6.19+git20160116-1.dsc

More information about pupnp can be obtained from http://pupnp.sourceforge.net

Changes since the last upload:

  * Update to latest git:
+ Don't fail if IPv6 is unavailable, we might be running on an
  IPv4-only host (Closes: #781876).
+ Don't define strndup and strnlen if autoconf says we already have them
  (Closes: #807393).
  * Add a patch to have Doxygen not write timestamps in the generated
documentation to allow package builds to be reproducible.
[Jérémy Bobbio <lu...@debian.org>] (patch 22) (Closes: #774518).
  * Bind miniserver sockets to our given IP address not INADDR_ANY (patch 24).
  * libupnp6-doc: add override of embedded-javascript-library for jquery.js,
see README.jquery in doxygen itself for why (lintian, Policy section 4.13).
  * Fix lintian binary-file-built-without-LFS-support for libixml: fix
libixml Makefile.am, fseeko and #includes, and define AC_USE_LARGEFILE in
configure.ac instead of the direct messing with 64bit #defines (patch 27).

Thankyou,
 Nick Leverton

Hi Nobuhiro,

I didn't reproduce this but I guess that your pbuilder environment may
be more minimal than mine and cause the test suite to fail, because it
uses real domains and expects them to resolve (even though it does not
try to access them).

This test was new in this upstream version and I've already mentioned
to the author that it may cause problems in Debian buildds. I'm sorry
that you fell over it upon first attempt.

If you have time to re-try, I have disabled the test suite for the time
being in the configure step, and re-uploaded the package to the same .dsc

Thankyou

Nick

Ping for upload please ?

2014-10-22 Thread Nick Leverton
Dear Mentors,

I would be very grateful indeed if someone could please find time to sponsor
my last two package updates some time this week, in time to get into Jessie:

Package name: libupnp
Version : 1:1.6.19+git20141001-1
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=764464
http://mentors.debian.net/package/libupnp

See bug for full changelog. This upload of libupnp provides a number
of stability and reliability fixes.

Package name: linux-igd
Version : 1.0+cvs20070630-5
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=764466
http://mentors.debian.net/package/linux-igd

See bug for full changelog. Linux-IGD fixes a number of long outstanding
bugs that my users have put some time into investigating. It would be
very good to acknowldege their efforts by getting the fixes uploaded.

I should soon be able to progress my DM application further so that I
can do my own uploads after this.

Thanks in hope,

Nick

  * Improve debian/rules hardening option usage stuff.
  * Update Standards-Version to 3.9.6 (no changes required).
  * Fix memset(ctx, 0, sizeof(ctx));   /* In case it's sensitive */
in our copy of Colin Plumb's md5.c (patch 01-debian-md5-licence.patch).

Bug#684679: RFS: nullmailer/1:1.11-2 (security bugfix upload request)

2012-08-21 Thread Nick Leverton
Thanks also Bart for reminding me of the other approach. (sorry I am
a bit distracted by home things at the moment). After some thought I
think it makes sense to change to the umask approach anyway, as it is more
efficient (fewer fork/execs), and also covers the case where the symlink
exists but the target does not yet, which the tempfile approach missed.

Uploaded again, I hope that this is my last change of mind now :-)

Thanks

If bartm is unable to upload this, I will do it. However, you need to
first check that /etc/nullmailer/remotes is a regular file, as it
would be a perfectly reasonable configuration to have replaced
/etc/nullmailer/remotes with a symlink. Secondly, you really should
 only do the replacement if /etc/nullmailer/remotes is world readable;
otherwise you should assume that the administrator has modified things
(for example, running nullmailer as an entirely different user).

Hi Don,

You raise some valuable issues, thanks. I think that merely not
replacing, chmodding or chowning the file if it already exists is a
simple and safe solution which allows the sysadmin to change what she
wants post-installation.

This does mean that existing installations will not be protected, but
I don't think that that's important enough to be worth a NEWS entry to
warn the admin.

Thankyou very much for your review. I've amended the package accordingly
and re-uploaded to mentors, and I hope it passes muster for upload.
The updated debdiff is attached (same version number, new changelog
timestamp).

What's wrong with remotes being world-readable?

For instance, it may include SMTP authentication information.

This is the issue, yes. Security team classed it as Serious (#684619,

Bug#677745: RFS: nullmailer/1:1.11-1 simple relay-only mail transport agent (updated package)

2012-06-16 Thread Nick Leverton
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal [important for RC bugs, wishlist for new packages]

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package nullmailer

 Package name: nullmailer

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/n/nullmailer/nullmailer_1.11-1.dsc

More information about hello can be obtained from http://www.example.com.

Changes since the last upload:

  * New upstream release
- Simplify (and expand) handling of ignored sendmail options.
- Fixed command-line interpretation of short options with values.
- Added support for SSL/TLS client certificates.
  * Increase hardening level - note current lintian gives false positives,
c'mon lintian if you fink we ain't 'ard enough.
  * Really use LOG_INFO on success (really Closes: #632015, LP:531796)
  * Create and use a pidfile with start-stop-daemon so that we only stop,
at most, our own instance of nullmailer-send (Closes: 674125).

The package is lintian clean apart from hardening false positives.
I would be very grateful if someone could upload this for me !

Help updating debian/templates

2012-02-23 Thread Nick Leverton
Hi,

I want to add some additional examples to the debconf templates in my
package nullmailer. The examples would only change config file entries
(for the nullmailer/relayhost entry), and shouldn't need translating -
they would be the same in all languages.

I note that if I run debconf-updatepo, my updated template gets amended
into all extant .po files, and they all get marked as fuzzy. Is this
all I need to do, or do I have to notify anyone or do anything about
the fuzziness ?

Thanks

Hi,

I am not a DD so cannot upload your package, however in the light of the
previous discussion on -mentors it looks interesting, so I have checked
it out.

I gather that this is a new package to Debian. Your debian/changelog
should probably start from new in that case. You could perhaps move
the existing debian/changelog to changelog.OLD or similar, if you want
to retain the history of the code's evolution before it entered Debian.

The new debian/changelog should start with the new version, 0.3.1-1,
and should Close: your ITP bug #603842 (you've closed it in a version
which AFAICS has never been in Debian).

The source files licensing (author, date and a pointer to COPYING) needs
to be made explicit in each file, via a comment block near the top:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2009/03/msg00451.html
Are you your own upstream ? This could be easy to apply then :)

As this is new to Debian, perhaps you could look at doing your
debian/copyright file along the lines of DEP-5 to help in automated
licence checks ? Your copyright file is quite clear, DEP-5 is just a
suggested format which sums it up in a standard way. I can't find the
current format just at the moment ... anyone know it please ?

Sorry this took so long to write up, hope you can have a happy

I'm not sure about that and I heard different opinions about it - does
it hurt to keep the old history? OK, it'll survive inside the git repository,
but is removing the history before the package introduction really necessary?

You're right that opinions vary and some uploaders may not mind.

Sure, adding that line would be the first thing I'd do once someone volunteers
 to sponsor the package.

Ok - my preference as a maintainer is to make the package as ready as
possible, as sponsors are often busy. That said they will often make
valuable corr^Wcontributions anyway !

The source files licensing (author, date and a pointer to COPYING) needs

Every .c-file has to contain that header? Sure, possible, but seems very
 awkward?

It helps, the Debian tool licensecheck can then scan and report on the
contents of the package. Also if a source is borrowed elsewhere, the
authorship is still clear.

Sorry this took so long to write up, hope you can have a happy
$FESTIVITIES and write some more cool code for Debian :-)

Lintian whines that we have a dfsg on a native package, as it should )

In my own experience, the commonest way of accidentally building a Debian
native package (a source format, nothing to do with where it's maintained)
is to have a wrongly named upstream tarball, which dpkg-source will not
associate with your package.

For a package of fluxbox 1.1.1+dfsg1-1 your Debian revision is -1,
and the tarball should thus be fluxbox_1.1.1+dfsg1.orig.tar.gz.
Everything before the dash is counted as the upstream version number,
even when it's a result of DFSG re-packaging.

Thanks, I now have that, lintian gives me an empty-debian-diff error.
Because, well, I wrote this app and am packaging it, there is nothing to
diff with. What is the argument to not make a native package, by the way?

Debian native package format is intended for things which are only of any
use for Debian itself, like dpkg and apt. As you've seen, dpkg-source
uses indications like absence of an upstream tarball and absence of a
dash in the version number to guess what it is supposed to be producing.

For packages which might be useful on any distro or even outside of Linux,
it's preferred to keep the debian/ directory (containing your packaging)
out of the normal tarball, and to incorporate it in the .diff.gz.

This helps because, when Policy changes or when some need for change in
the packaging comes to light, you don't need to make a whole new upstream
release, and the other non-Debian distros don't need to know about
the Debian change. I guess you have all your packaging already in the
tarball, which is why you have an empty diff.gz file. If you can separate
it out, there will be less Debian cruft for other distros, and the Debian
packaging will be separated from the package's own functional changes.

RFS: linux-igd (updated package)

2010-05-22 Thread Nick Leverton
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.0+cvs20070630-3
of my package linux-igd.

It builds these binary packages:
linux-igd - Linux UPnP Internet Gateway Device

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 507313, 527144, 538576

The package is also updated for the new libupnp4 API which should fix
some multi-threading instabilities.

linux-igd (1.0+cvs20070630-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Use debhelper 7 and dh; update patch 02-makefile to support DESTDIR.
Really compile with -O0 when DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt is specified.
  * Reformat patches for source 3.0 (Closes: #538576) and update to DEP-3.
  * Create a pidfile in initscript (Closes: #527144)
  * Update for Policy 3.8.1 to 3.8.4:
Add --oknodo to start calls in case daemon was already running (3.8.1)
  * Update to current netfilter, thanks to OpenWRT for patches 001/2/3/4
  * Use standard include files for string.h etc (patch 07).
  * Update to use xtables functions when available (patch 08).
  * Update upnp.8 man page with current options (patch 09).
  * Update to current libupnp 1.8.x API instead of 1.6.x (patch 10).
  * Fix potential sprintf overrun just in case (patch 11).
  * Add upnp_log_filename and upnp_log_level options to enable the libupnp
debug file, and use that file for our own debug logging (patch 13).
  * Some extra debugging, using the new libupnp debug file (patch 12, 14).
  * Use forward_rules_append option to append to PREROUTING also (patch
15, Closes: #507313).

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/linux-igd
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/linux-igd/linux-igd_1.0+cvs20070630-3.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Request for upload: nfs-utils 1:1.2.2-1~bpo50+1

2010-05-22 Thread Nick Leverton
Dear backporters,

Please would someone upload nfs-utils 1.2.2 for me ? This is required
for NFS mounting with kernel 2.6.32-bpo because the kernel module listing
has changed.

The package needs to be backported as the version in testing would also
pull in libc6 and kerberos from testing.

* Package name: nfs-utils
  Version : 1:1.2.2-1~bpo50+1

It builds these binary packages:
nfs-common - NFS support files common to client and server
nfs-kernel-server - support for NFS kernel server

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/n/nfs-utils
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/n/nfs-utils/nfs-utils_1.2.2-1~bpo50+1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Many thanks

RFS: libupnp and libupnp4 (updated packages)

2010-05-19 Thread Nick Leverton
Dear Mentors

My usual sponsor seems to be away at the moment, so I am looking for a
sponsor for the new versions of my two related packages libupnp and libupnp4.

This is chiefly to fix an FTBFS on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD in good time for
freeze, but I have been working with upstream and have included some
other pertinent fixes too.

* Package name: libupnp
  Version : 1:1.6.6-5
Upstream Author : 2000-2003 Intel Corporation
2005-2006 Rémi Turboult r...@users.sourceforge.net
2006 Michel Pfeiffer and others virtual_wor...@gmx.de
2006 Alexander Chemeris
2007-2010 Marcelo Roberto Jimenez
mrobe...@users.sourceforge.net
* URL : http://pupnp.sourceforge.net/
* License : BSD
  Section : net

It builds these binary packages:
libupnp-dev - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices (development files)
libupnp3 - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.6 (shared libraries)
libupnp3-dbg - debugging symbols for libupnp3
libupnp3-dev - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.6 (development files)

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 555386, 573319, 576068

* Package name: libupnp4
  Version : 1.8.0~svn20100507-1
Upstream Author : 2000-2003 Intel Corporation
2005-2006 Rémi Turboult r...@users.sourceforge.net

2006 Alexander Chemeris
2007-2010 Marcelo Roberto Jimenez
mrobe...@users.sourceforge.net
* URL : http://pupnp.sourceforge.net/
* License : BSD
  Section : net

It builds these binary packages:
libupnp4 - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.8 (shared libraries)
libupnp4-dbg - debugging symbols for libupnp4
libupnp4-dev - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.8 (development files)
libupnp4-doc - Documentation for the Portable SDK for UPnP Devices, version 1.8

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 573321, 581608

The two packages can be found on mentors.debian.net:

so it is perfectly reasonable to attempt a hijack (even if it was not

The kvm PTS page (http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/kvm.html) says,

I see that Giuseppe Iuculano already uploaded some kvm security updates

Hi Dario,

Thanks for making this package, I have previously used djmount to test libupnp.

The upstream package contains private copies of libtalloc and pupnp, both of
which are already included in Debian in their own right (libtalloc1 and
libupnp3). Perhaps you could consider specifying --with-external-libupnp

I don't think there's any need to remove and re-package the sources,
as these libs are DFGS free enough to be in Debian in their own right.
I would say it's adequate for the Debian packaging just to tell configure
to use the external libraries and add the appropriate build-deps.

Helping upstream to drop the embedded copies could be a separate public
service change, if you felt keen enough, but they have already given
packagers the choice of which to use through ./configure.

Hi,

IANADD so I cannot upload your package. It appears interesting though
so I had a look at it and I have a few comments for you.

The package fails to build under pbuilder from two causes:

First, you call dh_quilt_unpatch from your clean target, however this
command is provided by quilt which is not part of build-essential.
Pbuilder only auto-installs the dependencies after cleaning the package -
but it will not do this as the clean fails. You might fix this by doing
dh_quilt_unpatch || true in your clean.

Second, you need a build-dep for libtool which is required by the build.

In your control file, libiulib-dev Depends: on libiulib, however your
packaging builds the library in libiulib0 so the -dev package will
not install. I find it worth actually installing my final packages and
using them to catch errors of this sort before upload.

I haven't used debhelper 7 myself yet so can't comment on the rules file.

Recent comments here suggest that a is un-needed at the start of the
short description :)

Is it worth mentioning in the short description that the library is for
C++ ? Many other libraries specify the language in the short description
so that it is obvious when browsing e.g. aptitude lists. The mention of
STL in the long description is a hint, to be sure, and Debtags will one
day give a definite idea, so other people's thoughts are welcome.

Copyright looks good on a quick check.

As well, there is a pedantic Lintian warning: P: iulib source:
source-contains-svn-control-dir . Seems like each of your dirs has the
.svn directory still. It's only a pedantic warning and not something I
would think worth re-creating the tarball for, but might be worth asking
upstream to clean their release.

Nice work in general, thankyou, and if you could fix the above then I
wish you luck with finding a sponsor.

That would be a good project to learn Debian packaging from. I have a

was to update the copyright to reflect non-free upstream copyright.
I use it very successfully with Debian SpamAssassin.

You could update the packaging to Lenny standards and check if it complies
with Policy 3.8.0 (the previous version was at least three years ago).

RFupload: libupnp (updated package)

2008-06-18 Thread Nick Leverton
Dear mentors,

My regular sponsor is on holiday. I am wondering if someone would care
to review and upload the new version 1.6.6-1 of my package libupnp.

The Portable SDK for UPnP Devices (libupnp) provides developers with an
API and open source code for building control points, devices, and
bridges that are compliant with Version 1.0 of the Universal Plug and
Play Device Architecture Specification - see http://www.upnp.org/ for
 specifications.

It builds these binary packages:
libupnp-dev - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices (development files)
libupnp3 - Portable SDK for UPnP Devices (shared libraries)
libupnp3-dbg - debugging symbols for libupnp3

There are two Lintian comments:

libupnp source: out-of-date-standards-version 3.7.3 is because I haven't
reviewed it for standards 3.8.0. The package was prepared some time
ago and was in testing since.

debian-changelog-line-too-long line 7 - me culpa, it is one charactrer
too long :-)

The upload would fix these bugs:
Important: 482737 libupnp daemons crash after short while running

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libupnp
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
  main contrib non-free
- dget
  http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libupnp/libupnp_1.6.6-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone could avoid a last minute pressure and
check/upload this package for me. I'll save the two lintian fixes for
next upload in case someone has any other comments.

Thank you
 Nick Leverton

Re: Developer names within debian/changelog

2008-05-15 Thread Nick Leverton
AFAICT, this leads to put whatever you want within a changelog entry,
so long as it doesn't cause significant annoyance, because no program
 can expect to read it.

Don't forget the existence of package libparse-debianchangelog-perl (and
of dpkg-parsechangelog) which do seem to read and interpret changelogs.
I've not used them myself though so can't advise further on them.

RFS/ITP: linux-igd -- UPnP Internet Gateway Device

2008-03-15 Thread Nick Leverton
linux-igd is a daemon that emulates Microsoft's Internet Connection
Service (ICS). It implements the UPnP Internet Gateway Device
specification (IGD) and allows UPnP aware clients, such as MSN Messenger
to work properly from behind a NAT firewall. Licenced GPLv2 or later.

linux-igd was formerly in Debian but orphaned and subsequently removed
from unstable as RoQA RC-buggy in #411875. Upstream has now restarted
development and fixed many of the bugs assigned to it in Debian BTS.

I have fixed all remaining bugs which were outstanding in Debian before
the package was removed and have added a note on SECURITY of this daemon.

  * New maintainer (Closes: #411875)
  * New upstream CVS (Closes: #436919, #436365), including important
option name changes:
- Renamed the insert_forward_rules option to create_forward_rules to
better reflect what it actually does.
- Added the forward_rules_append to do what people thought
  insert_forward_rules did.
See /usr/share/doc/linux-igd/CHANGES.gz for further details.
  * Change initscript to do nothing until /etc/default/upnp is configured
(Closes: #423189, #399960).
  * Add --oknodo to all start-stop-daemon --stop calls in initscript
in case daemon wasn't running anyway (Closes: #415981).
  * Use libiptc to avoid needing to exec iptables binary.
  * Configurable CHROOT and USER/GROUP for daemon.
  * Add SECURITY note and sample conf for jailer chroot.
  * Abstract the patch for #397572 from .diff.gz into separate quilt patch
01-debian-my_parse_port.diff
  * New patch 02-makefile.diff for fixes to makefile
  * Patch 03-debian-bindtodevice.diff Closes: #441082 (linux-igd does not
restrict itself to the internal interface).
  * Honour CFLAGS in compilation (thanks Gianluigi Tiesi [EMAIL PROTECTED]
http://debian.cli.unipi.it/debian/pool/sherpya/l/linux-igd/ ).

The sources are at:
http://debian.leverton.org/dists/etch/main/source/linux-igd_1.0+cvs20070630-1.dsc

The package is lintian clean. This builds and has been run-tested
against both libupnp2 and the new libupnp3.

Thankyou

I am not sure if debian/libupnp3.shlibs is really needed since the
package uses libtool and the SONAMES are given in configure.ac. The built
package contains three libs which are at different SONAMEs in themselves.

I removed the shlibs file anyway and it still builds a .deb with the
same sonames (both from objdump and from lib*.so.N) as the upstream
