Bug#964164: Bug#947017: Bug#964164: RFS: org-drill/2.7.0-1 [ITP] -- spaced repetition drills in Emacs for accelerated study/learning
Thank you Nicholas for the reminder and sorry for keeping you waiting. Unfortunately, I don't believe the package would pass the NEW queue in its current state. You did remove the apple.jpg file but you added a new apple.png file that is not mentioned in debian/copyright. I know how annoying these copyright issues are! I think the easiest would be to just remove the file and its references without any replacement. You might then help upstream with a pull request to provide a dfsg free picture for the next version. The following remarks are maybe not strictly required: Even if you add a new file, you should not use debian/patches to add it but just include it in the debian tarball. I actually never had to do this myself, so I have no experience with adding a binary file. Please also add a version number to dfsg suffix like dfsg1 or dfsg-1. It happened to me before that I needed multiple uploads to the new queue before I found all non dfsg-unfree files: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/nix Especially the version number of the orig tarball is different from the changelog. I wonder how this worked in the first place. If you want to reflect the dfsg cleaning work also in your git packaging branch, I started a knowledge base article here: https://wiki.debian.org/kb/git_packaging_dfsg_clean_branch An example of this: https://salsa.debian.org/debian/nix My nix package also contains a debian/watch example to produce a dfsg clean orig tarball. The git packaging repo does not contain the latest commits apparently, there is no debian/patches folder: https://salsa.debian.org/emacsen-team/org-drill/-/tree/master/debian Thank you very much for your contribution and especially for your patience!
Bug#954050: RFS: persist-el/0.4+dfsg-1 [ITP] -- persist variables between Emacs Sessions
Hi Nicholas, I just uploaded persist-el. Thank you and sorry for the delay. This was my first sponsorship and I also had to setup a new laptop. I'm just waiting for the confirmation mail for the upload. There are a few nitpicks and I'd be grateful if you could track them, e.g. in bugs.d.o after the package enters the archive: - It's a pity that we can not include the info file due to the license. Could you ask upstream to consider another license? - As long as the doc is not included, I think you don't need to build depend on texinfo. - If upstream also uses Git, I prefer to track upstreams master branch as upstream branch in the packaging repo. You could still merge their branch in your existing repo or restart the repo? - Lintian also had two nitpicks, see below. I'm guilty of the "wrong" section myself for elpa-editorconfig. What is the teams stand on this? Package: sponsorship-requests Severity: normal Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my update to upstream version 0.7.12 for the package "editorconfig-emacs" which is already in the archive. It builds those binary packages: elpa-editorconfig - coding style indenter for all editors - Emacsen plugin To access further information about this package, please visit the following URL: https://mentors.debian.net/package/editorconfig-emacs Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command: dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e/editorconfig-emacs/editorconfig-emacs_0.7.12-1.dsc Changes since the last upload: * new upstream version (Closes: 865332, 859011) * update Vcs-* tags, alioth->salsa * update Standards-Version 3.9.6->4.1.5, no changes needed * mv editorconfig from Depends: to Recommends: * update debhelper 9->11 The update adds autopkgtests which are failing. However the same tests are executed during build and succeed. I want to work with upstream on debugging the failures. I think it is better to keep the autopkgtest config in the package instead of hiding the problem. Regards, Thomas Koch

I need a daemon wrapper my project now and just started reading about jsvc. Are you sure, that you can not package your thing without service-wrapper- java? At first thight it seems, that this software is that kind of pseudo free crippleware that is useful only as payed professional version. From the feature table it seems to me, that all its free features can (and maybe should) also be achieved in the /etc/init.d script of your package. Do you know the "daemon" package? Re: RFS: egroupware (fixes critical bug)
Hi Lars, take for example phpgwapi/inc/class.phpmailer.inc.php It's license is LGPL and the authors are not listed in debian/copyright. I know, that eGW has accumulated in it's history a shitload of code from all sorts of other PHP projects. There are many classes from PEAR and Horde. You'll have a hard time to document all this in the debian/copyright file. - And without a proper and exact debian/copyright the package may not enter Debian. I don't mean to be picky about this just out of pickiness, but it's only one symptom of manys that eGW is a rotten codebase that should not be kept alive. And when you're done with documenting all copyrights, let's start to fix all security issues. It shouldn't take to long to pick a handful. phpgwapi/inc/class.kses.inc.php - this is also a nice one. first written 2002, 2003 forked, then included in eGW. phpgwapi/inc/class.mime_magic.inc.php - from 1999, three authors, copied from horde By the way: Does eGW work with PHP5.3? Will you be available to deal with all the bug reports for eGW or will these be handled by your sponsor? Re: RFS: egroupware (fixes critical bug)
Hi Lars, I know you'll hate me for this, but I'd like to suggest to drop eGroupWare from Debian. You may have invested a lot of time in the package by now. eGroupWare has been the first Open Source project I've been involved with back in 2006. I stopped working with eGroupWare because the code quality of the project was unbearable. Some time later two core contributors founded the tine project for the same reason. - eGroupWare itself started as a fork from the ancient phpGroupWare, also in some conflict I don't know enough about. eGroupWare is an ancient codebase from the beginnings of PHP (version 3?). For everything that people hate about PHP you can find examples in eGroupWare's codebase. It's a pain to develop or maintain this. Nobody should recommend eGroupWare to anyone. Debian should not ship it. I couldn't find the current eGroupWare SVN repo on the new homepage to look if the code has changed since I last saw it. - Why is the whole developer section dropt from the current homepage? Re: RFS: php-ezcomponents
Still searching for a sponsor. I've uploaded a new debian version of php-ezcomponents which now also includes the logic to calculate minimal dependencies between binary packages. Still this will only be relevant once there are multiple versions of ezcomponents in the Debian archive. * Package name: php-ezcomponents Version : 2009.1.1-2 Upstream Author : eZ Systems AS * URL : http://ezcomponents.org * License : New BSD Section : web The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/php-ezcomponents - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/php-ezcomponents/php- ezcomponents_2009.1.1-2.dsc Thomas Koch, http://www.koch.ro -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Using git-buildpackage --git-keyid
I think the --git-keyid is used only for tagging of the git repository. The error message comes from debsign, which doesn't know that you're building from a GIT repo. debsign needs a gpg key to sign the package and tries to get the key of the uploader, mentioned in the most recent debian/changelog line. You can however also give a gpg id to debsign: man debsign Options for debsign could be given to git-buildpackage and should be propagated down the line. > Hi there, > > I am trying to use git-buildpackage, but I cannot understand how I > am supposed to pass my gpg keyid. In rest there are so called TieIn components, that provide the functionality of one component for another. For example The AuthenticationDatabaseTieIn provides storage of user credentials in the database. > > This also allows you to update each component separately > > No, it doesn't since they all have 2009.1.1 version. If you do it one way or the other, there will be users complaining. If I package everything in one package, then there are people naging: "I don't like to install all this eZComponents things, if I only want the template engine" You can see this kind of discussions often with javascript frameworks. People complained, that YUI is too big, but in fact you only ever load a small subset for each request. I also think it's nicer to have only the code you need on the machine. You don't need to bother about security issues in code you don't have installed. Finaly I think that people indeed use individual components instead of ezcomponents-all. Since it's a library, it will come to your machine most time in form of dependencies. So the package maintainer using ezcomponents can pick, what he actually needs for his package. Re: [php-maint] RFS: php-ezcomponents
Hi Ondrej, thanks for looking at my package. Does it matter, how big the source package is? Since the files you mention don't end up in the binary package, I'd rather just leave it as is. Yes, upstream and me really like to have each component in an individual binary package. Upstream puts big efforts into makeing each component independent and usable as standalone. This also allows you to update each component separately and install only the needed components on production machines. Can I convince you? :-) Thomas > Do you really need to split ALL components into separate packages? > > For me it would make more sense to: > > - strip all tests out (huge save of disk space) > - separate */docs to separate package (php-ezcomponents-docs) > - remove */design or move it to docs if needed > - strip all kind of useless junk in */ > > Resulting php-ezcomponents would be just ~17M uncompressed after the > modifications, instead of 125M with test/, design/ and docs/. > > Ondrej > > On Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 13:25, Thomas Koch wrote: > > I've updated the package to the new upstream version 2009.1.1. > > > >> Dear mentors, > >> > >> I am looking for a sponsor for my package "php-ezcomponents". > >> > >> * Package name: php-ezcomponents > >> Version : 2009.1-1 > >> Upstream Author : eZ Systems AS > >> * URL : http://ezcomponents.org > >> * License : New BSD > >> Section : web > >> > >> It builds these binary packages: > >> php-ezcomponents-all - Super package to install a complete release of eZ > >> Components > >> php-ezcomponents-archive - create, modify, and extract archive files > >> php-ezcomponents-authentication - support for different authentication > >> mechanisms > >> php-ezcomponents-authenticationdatabasetiein - Tie-In to connect the > >> authentication and database components > >> php-ezcomponents-base - The Base package provides the basic > >> infrastructure for eZ Compone > >> php-ezcomponents-cache - A solution for caching, supporting multiple > >> backends php-ezcomponents-configuration - support for configuration > >> files in different formats > >> php-ezcomponents-consoletools - A set of classes to interact with the > >> console php-ezcomponents-database - A lightweight database layer on top > >> of PHPs PDO php-ezcomponents-databaseschema - Classes that allow you to > >> extract information from a database sch > >> php-ezcomponents-debug - provides a set of classes that help you to > >> debug php-ezcomponents-document - general conversion framework for > >> document formats php-ezcomponents-eventlog - log events or audit trails > >> into files or other storage spaces > >> php-ezcomponents-eventlogdatabasetiein - database writer backend for the > >> EventLog component > >> php-ezcomponents-execution - functionality to show errors to your > >> applications users > >> php-ezcomponents-feed - parsing and creating RSS1, RSS2 and ATOM feeds > >> php-ezcomponents-file - file operations which are not covered by PHP > >> php-ezcomponents-graph - creates pie charts, line graphs and other kinds > >> of diagrams > >> php-ezcomponents-graphdatabasetiein - GraphDatabaseTiein to directly use > >> PDO statements > >> php-ezcomponents-imageanalysis - analyse image files in different ways > >> php-ezcomponents-imageconversion - apply different filters on images > >> php-ezcomponents-mail - construct and/or parse Mail messages > >> php-ezcomponents-mvcauthenticationtiein - Authentication filters for the > >> MvcTools components > >> php-ezcomponents-mvcfeedtiein - View handler to render data as ATOM or > >> RSS feed > >> php-ezcomponents-mvcmailtiein - extracts request data from e-mail > >> php-ezcomponents-mvctemplatetiein - view handler that renders result > >> data with the Template component > >> php-ezcomponents-mvctools - Infrastructure for MVC applications > >> php-ezcomponents-persistentobject - ORM Mapper for PHP > >> php-ezcomponents-persistentobjectdatabaseschematiein - automatic > >> generation of PersistentObject definition > >> php-ezcomponents-phpgenerator - interface for creating PHP files and > >> executing PHP code > >> php-ezcomponents-search - interface to index and query documents from > >> search engines > >> php-ezcomponents-signalslot - implements a mechanism for object > >> communication php-ezcomponents-sy
