I am the upstream author and Debian package maintainer of evilvte.

As far as I know, all VTE-based terminal emulators that supports
Tab/Tabbar, all has this kind of window-resizing bug.

Yes. Even gnome-terminal, xfce terminal, and many others, all has this
bug (in some specific window managers).

The least buggy one is lilyterm [1], but its author also found some
corner cases that would cause lilyterm to resize itself incorrectly.

If the terminal emulator do not use Tab/Tabbar or additional GTK+
widgets, it is much more easier to keep the correct window size.
For example, the demo program included in libvte, works correctly with
various resizing event.

So, this is basically the bug of all VTE terminal emulators that
supports Tab/Tabbar in Debian.

And, VTE built with GTK+ 3.x(2.9x.x) has changed the widget resizing
behavior.
All VTE terminal emulators will need new codes to cope with the change
to keep correct window size in GTK+ 3.x

Kind regards

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.20100623.2958-2

The package is lintian clean.

It builds the binary package: keynav

It closes #590011: FTBFS on kfreebsd-*: missing epoch in b-d on
   libxdo-dev
The core problem is FTBFS of lsof and xdotool on non-linux arches,
so I kept the urgency to low.

keynav (0.20100623.2958-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add epoch for Build-Depends: libxdo-dev (Closes: #590011)
Thanks to Axel Beckert
  * Add debian/clean
- remove keynav_version.h to prevent auto-generated patches when
  two builds in a row
- remove debian/patches/debian-changes-0.20100623.2958-1

Description: a keyboard-driven mouse cursor mover

cursor to any point on the screen with a few key strokes. It also
simulates mouse click. You can do everything mouse can do with a

It is not an emotional decision.
Due to various reasons, I have had planned to orphan all my packages
after release of Squeeze.
The decision was made on Sep. 2008, about two years ago.

Some of my packages has found their new maintainers.
(xf86-input-tslib and gcin, for example.)
I am busy, however I still kept all my packages updated and in a good shape.

My plan is not changed, so I will kept the RFA.
If no one adopt it, I will orphan keynav after release of Squeeze,
as planned about two years ago.

I would be happy to fix any issues before release of Squeeze.
I do want to make sure that keynav is in Squeeze stable release,
of course.

I have no local backup.
0.0.4-1 and 0.0.4-2 are only changes for requests of Neil Williams.
He prefers version-bump during mentoring.

The history is:
1. I uploaded 0.0.4-1 to mentors.debian.net and submitted an RFS
2. Neil pointed out something have to be fixed
3. I uploaded 0.0.4-2 to mentors.debian.net
4. Neil pointed out other things have to be fixed
5. I uploaded 0.0.4-3 to mentors.debian.net
6. Neil uploaded it to dak.

I think 0.0.4-4, 0.0.5-2, and 0.0.5-5 are due to the same reason.
There are some other releases that is not in the snapshot [1],
but I am not sure / can not clearly remember if they are all due to the
same reason.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.78-1
of my package "fpm2". (Programming language: C)

The package is lintian clean.
The package fixes a wishlist bug (see below).

fpm2 (0.78-1) unstable; urgency=low
.
  * New upstream release
- gray out toolbar buttons and menu entries automatically (Closes:
#570596)
  * Update debian/copyright
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.4

Description: a password manager with GTK+ 2.x GUI
Figaro's Password Manager 2 (FPM2) is a program that allows you to
securely store the passwords. Passwords are encrypted with the AES-256
 algorithm.
 .
If the password is for a web site, FPM2 can keep track of the URLs of
your login screens and can automatically launch your browser. In this
capacity, FPM2 acts as a kind of bookmark manager. You can teach FPM2
to launch other applications, and optionally pass hostnames, usernames
or passwords to the command line.
 .
FPM2 also has a password generator that can choose passwords for you.
It allows you to determine how long the password should be, and what
types of characters (lower case, upper case, numbers and symbols)
should be used. You can even have it avoid ambiguous characters such as
a capital O or the number zero.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:

I am new at deb packaging. I think Neil's guidelines [1] is good and
reasonable.
I am not an DD nor an DM. I have not start my NM process yet.
I am not an experienced programer. I only know a little C and shell
programing.

Neil's guidelines is clear, simple, and helps new maintainers to keep
their packages good.

I do know some Debian official packages maintained by some DDs would
fail to meet Neil's guidelines.
It is their problem, not Neil's.

It is good for new maintainers to read the checklist [2] on Debian wiki.

  * Update to latest xsfbs (http://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/xsfbs.git)

I built two debs against libts-dev 1.0-4 and 1.0-5.
Both debs works fine with libts-0.0-0 / libts-bin 1.0-4 and 1.0-5.

According to discussion on debian-x mailing list,

Ah. I think it is ok to build against libts-dev 1.0-4.
I made the change only because you uploaded 1.0-5 to experimental. :-P

No. I did not experience any problems.

> concerns can be fixed?

The xsfbs source used by X Strike Force team is here:
http://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/xsfbs.git

Notice:
1. the xsfbs I put in xserver-xorg-input-tslib 0.0.5-2 was taken from
xserver-xorg-input-evdev 2.1.0-1 source package (26 Nov 2008).
It has some difference with the one in git.
I did not find out the xsfbs git when I uploaded 0.0.5-2. :-(

2. your emdebian-xsfbs-xsfbs.sh.patch is compatible with the xsfbs in git.

I just forwarded your patch to debian-x mailing list.

I am busy this weekend. I plan to upload 0.0.5-3 on Dec 22 or 23 (UTC+8).
My plan for 0.0.5-3:
1. update xsfbs to the git one
2. downgrade Build-Depends to libts-dev (>= 1.0-4)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
(My country has no holiday for Christmas, but we have 4 holidays for new

RFS: fpm2 (updated package) - password manager

2008-07-08 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.72-1 of
my package "fpm2".

It is lintian clean.

This new upstream release fixes following bugs:
~ * provide using current category as default (Closes: #239564)
~ * fix a double-click bug (Closes: #367905)
~ * provide sorting by click-on-column-header (Closes: #367912)

It builds these binary packages:
fpm2 - a password manager with GTK+ 2.x GUI
fpm - a password manager - transitional package

Long description of fpm2:
~ Figaro's Password Manager 2 (FPM2) is a program that allows you to
~ securely store the passwords. Passwords are encrypted with the blowfish
~ algorithm.
~ .
~ If the password is for a web site, FPM2 can keep track of the URLs of
~ your login screens and can automatically launch your browser. In this
~ capacity, FPM2 acts as a kind of bookmark manager. You can teach FPM2
~ to launch other applications, and optionally pass hostnames, usernames
~ or passwords to the command line.
~ .
~ FPM2 also has a password generator that can choose passwords for you.
~ It allows you to determine how long the password should be, and what
~ types of characters (lower case, upper case, numbers and symbols)
~ should be used. You can even have it avoid ambiguous characters such as
~ a capital O or the number zero.

Long description of fpm:
~ Figaro's Password Manager 2 (FPM2) is a drop-in replacement for fpm.
~ .
~ This package can be purged at anytime once the fpm2 package has been
~ installed.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
~ * dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/fpm2/fpm2_0.72-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

FPM2 is a forked project from fpm.
I think we should respect the upstream name, both for FPM2 and fpm.

I do not think upstream author will be happy about the renaming.

FPM2 basically share the same code base of fpm. However, I can not sure
that it is 100% compatible with fpm. I know FPM2 removed gpasman
importer, which is included in fpm.

I think the safest way is making FPM2 uses $/HOME/.fpm2 instead of
current $HOME/.fpm

I will ask upstream author of FPM2 about the compatibility issue.

If nobody can confirm the compatibility, I will upload a
"config file at $HOME/.fpm2" version later.

and the king is killed. In the process, you are flung from your mount

The QT3 immodule of gcin depends on the .so file.
I splitted it to the "gcin-qt3-immodule" package, since it depends on
libqt3-mt.

I will try rpath in next release. The major goal of current 1.3.4-3 is
to fix the RC bug, so I would not try rpath (unless the sponsor asks me
to do it).

RFS: gcin (updated package, closes RC bug #406036)

2008-04-27 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.3.4-3 of
my package "gcin".

It closes RC bug #406036 (FTBFS on hppa, ia64 and sparc),
and also closes #419366, #420504, and #436914.

The patch which fixes the RC bug is provided by upstream author.
I have tested it in qemu and it works fine.

The only one lintian warning is
"W: gcin: package-name-doesnt-match-sonames libgcin-im-client1".
It is unnecessary to pack a "libgcin-im-client1" package, because
libgcin-im-client.so.1.0.2 is only used by gcin internally.

It builds these binary packages:
gcin - an GTK+ based input method platform for Chinese users
gcin-qt3-immodule - an QT input method module with gcin as backend

Description of gcin:
Gcin is an input method platform, which supports GTK+/QT immodule
and XIM. Gcin is focused mainly on Traditional Chinese. However,
it is also very useful for Simplified Chinese, Japanese,
 and many other languages.
 .
Input method table format of gcin is almost as same as those of
 xcin and scim.
 .
This package contains an GTK+ immodule. If you want to use QT immodule,
 please install gcin-qt3-immodule package.

Description of gcin-qt3-immodule:
Gcin is an input method platform, which supports GTK+/QT immodule
 and XIM.
 .
This package is the QT 3.x native input method module for gcin.
 .
For more information about gcin, please check the description of
 gcin package.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gcin/gcin_1.3.4-3.dsc

You can see the debdiff here:
- - http://www.calno.com/moto/gcin/debdiff_1.3.4-2_to_1.3.4-3.txt

A step by step HOWTO to test gcin:
- - http://www.calno.com/moto/gcin-test/

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Wen-Yen Chuang (caleb)

The only way I know is to keep the upstream versioning "vttest 20071216".

  Section: utils

It builds a binary package:
vttest - tests VT100 compatibility of terminals

Long description:
This is a program designed to test the functionality of a VT100 terminal
(or emulator thereof). Analysis of VT220, VT420, and xterm are also
provided.
The program is menu-driven and contains full on-line operating
instructions. It tests both display (escape sequence handling) and keyboard.

The package is lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:

RFS: gcin (Closes RC bug #406036)

2008-03-08 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.3.4-3
of my package "gcin".

It closes RC bug #406036, and also closes #419366, #420504, and #436914.

The patch which fixes the RC bug is provided by upstream author last night.
I have tested it in qemu and a physical machine. It works great!

It builds these binary packages:
gcin - a GTK+ based input method platform for Chinese users
gcin-qt3-immodule - a QT input method module with gcin as backend

The only one lintian warning is:
"W: gcin: package-name-doesnt-match-sonames libgcin-im-client1"

"libgcin-im-client1" is used only by gcin internally.
It is unnecessary to pack another "libgcin-im-client1" library package.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gcin/gcin_1.3.4-3.dsc

You can see the debdiff here:
- - http://www.calno.com/moto/gcin/debdiff_1.3.4-2_to_1.3.4-3

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Wen-Yen Chuang (caleb)

Some "options" can be changed via hotkeys or a menu.
For example, you can change encodings for each tab and no need of
recompilation. Font size is also changeable via hotkeys.

Of course, a prebuild binary can not satisfy everyone's needs.

A similar situation happens on Debian official package "dwm".
It is a window manager that is customized via "editing source code and
recompilation".

I think a "apt-get source evilvte" is good enough for those who want to
build their own terminal emulator. :-)

RFS: evilvte - lightweight terminal emulator

2008-03-08 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "evilvte".

* Package name: evilvte
  Version : 0.2.2-1
  Upstream Author : Wen-Yen Chuang <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.calno.com/evilvte/
* License : GPL-2
  Programing Language : C
  Section : x11

It builds this binary package:
evilvte - an VTE based super lightweight terminal emulator

evilvte is a terminal emulator. It supports almost everything VTE provides.
It also supports tabs, tabbar autohide, and switch encoding at runtime.
Configuration is via editing source code and recompilation. A standard
stripped binary size of evilvte is less than 9 kilobytes.
It is about 1/30 size of gnome-terminal.

The package is lintian clean.

The upload would fix ITP bug: 469953

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- - dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e/evilvte/evilvte_0.2.2-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Wen-Yen Chuang (caleb)
