Changes since the last upload:

I updated from version 0.16 to 0.17.

Regards,

Thomas Dettbarn

So, dMagnetic is a Magnetic scrolls interpreter. It allows the owner of
classic text
adventures such as "The Pawn", "The Guild of Thieves", "Fish!",
"Jinxter", "Myth",
"Corruption" and "Wonderland" to play them, once more, but on modern
hardware and
within a terminal window. The beautiful graphics are being rendered in
glorious ANSI

Art, or even ASCII Art, ifpreferred.

The package itself is almost finished, it needs a little bit of advise
from somebody

a little more experienced in creating packages.

Thus, if you are a SPONSOR, please please have a look at the project's
website, which
can be found at http://www.dettus.net/dMagnetic. It would be a
TREMENDOUS honor for
me to see my project in your repository. It would be a very good fit for
Debian.

Thank you!!

Hello.

Okay.

So, I removed the LICENSE.txt and README.txt from the debian/docs file.
I changed the compat from 12 to 9. Now the package can be build on my
Ubuntu machine.

Now what?

Please also try running 'dMagnetic -mag guild.mag -gfx guild.gfx

Hi!
First, the big question: is there are freely licensed data for this
interpreter? If not, the package will have to go into contrib rather
than

main: it's a section for free stuff that requires non-free to function.

The package lacks build-depends on debhelper 12: you use compat 12
yet have

"Build-Depends: debhelper (>=9)". Also, nowadays there's a better way to
express that: "Build-Depends: debhelper-compat (=12)".

The package installs LICENSE.txt (redundant with copyright) and
README.txt

(redundant with the long desc of the package).

After having downloaded game data, I get no graphics. The command
"graphics" switches between text only and text + a line with lightgray
background + a lot of empty space. I've tried two games: "pawn" and
"guild", passing -gfx and -mag each time.

The .menu file is obsolete, most desktop environments don't support it
anymore, and those which do are hardly maintained.

What I actually need is somebody to give my package the final boost, to
get it into the offical Debian Build System, and hopefully, into the debian
package repository. My project is an awesome interpreter for Magnetic
Scrolls textadventures. They used pretty beautiful graphics back then, and
I always wanted to play them when I was a child.

With my interpreter, it is possible to play them in any terminal window,
even over SSH or on UART terminals. The graphcis are being rendered in
glorious ANSI Art, or even ASCII Art, if preferred.

Just look at the screenshots on my website http://www.dettus.net/dMagnetic.

Hey Adam!
Hey Matthew!

Yes, thank you. That answered my questions!!

I changed the value to "no" and just re-uploaded everything.
That removed the warning.

As for the "insecure URI": You are indeed correct. Apparently,
an SSL certificate was part of my hoster's package deal. So
I ordered its activation. I will change the URI once it is
fully activated.

Yes, it does explain EVERYTHING in great detail.
Unfortunately, that is the opposite of helpful. ;)

So in some other words:

Rules-Requires-Root can be set to "no" unless you ship some files with
non-standard owner or group, or perhaps do something very strange with
permissions. A package that doesn't require elevated privileges can be
built fine without root.

"Insecure URI" is about using http:// not https://. In this case, the
https:// URL does not work -- so it's a deficiency of the webpage, not
fixable without upstream's help. In your case, though, you may have a quite
easy time contacting upstream. Note that this is not even a warning,
merely a wishlist item.

Likewise, autopkgtests are nice but I don't really see a way to make one
for this package.

What EXACTLY is it that I have to put into the debian/control and debian/rules
files, so that this message disappears? The only root-permissions my package
needs are during the installation process. Not whilst building, not whilst
running.

PLEASE DO NOT JUST COPY&PASTE A LINK TO THE DOCUMENTATION IN HERE. PLEASE HELP

I believe this requires a “Rules-Requires-Root: no” line in debian/control.
Also, while you said not to link to documentation, I should note that if you
click through the warning on the package page that you linked it tells you the
extended description of this tag that is fairly explicit.

Parameters for "make check"?

2020-07-26 Thread dettus

Hello.

So, my latest and greatest release comes with a "make check" target.

The thing is, under Debian it requires an extra parameter.

make SHA256_CMD=sha256sum check

would be the correct one. My question is... How do I put this into the

debian package? So far, the only solution I had was to patch the Makefile.

Thing slash idea I would be playing with is having
  SHA256_CMD=sha256sum
in debian/rules.

Same suggestion in other words

Set in debian/rules the environment variable SHA256_CMD
  the value to sha256
