Let's hope that I have the energy for that. Code review is well-known to significantly improve quality. People who need sponsored uploads get code review by the sponsor, so those packages end up being of higher quality. Full Debian developers aren't required to seek code review, so on average the packages are of lower quality. Code review takes a lot of time, so requiring it for every package in Debian probably isn't feasible. But it's the code review of the sponsoring process that results in most of the quality improvements. Team-based packaging also gets at least some code review, particularly if committed patches are sent to the team mailing list. Ooops. Fixed. The updated sources are again at the same address. It's a little frustrating. Wouldn't it be the case to require said maintainers to shape up their skills so that their packages improve and, as a side effect, the quality of the overall distribution increases? It would be nice (modulo disagreements within the project about best practices). However, Debian doesn't really have a mechanism to do so at present. RFS: magicfilter (updated package)
Dear mentors, I have adopted the magicfilter package some time ago and I am now fixing some quite long-standing bugs (you can see for yourself in the list below). I am, therefore, looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.2-62 of my package magicfilter. Please, keep in mind that, as this package will soon be upgraded to a new upstream version, I have left the build system that the original maintainer created. The new versions of the package will use a brand new build system based on debhelper. Well, these are the contents of the .changes file: ,[ magicfilter_1.2-62_amd64.changes ] | -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- | Hash: SHA1 | | Format: 1.8 | Date: Sun, 02 Aug 2009 16:52:36 -0300 | Source: magicfilter | Binary: magicfilter | Architecture: source amd64 | Version: 1.2-62 | Distribution: unstable | Urgency: low | Maintainer: Rogério Brito rbr...@ime.usp.br | Changed-By: Rogério Brito rbr...@ime.usp.br | Description: | magicfilter - automatic printer filter | Closes: 33666 101010 250715 294485 295293 | Changes: | magicfilter (1.2-62) unstable; urgency=low | . |* debian/control: | + promote djtools, recode to recommends.
