Re: RFS: prboom (updated package)

2007-11-01 Thread Jon Dowland
Thanks for the CC Miriam or I may have missed this!

Right now I have a prboom package I was about to upload to mentors which
Moritz was going to sponsor. It Replaces: lxdoom as we're trying to get
that out of the archive. So this is interesting timing.

I'd appreciate it if all packages that are requested to be sponsored
were based on the package that is currently in SVN, as I'm sure every
games team member appreciates! :-)

Regarding Marco's improvements to the package: I kept the desktop file
that he added to SVN but I reverted the icon for copyvio reasons. I can
understand that being a simple mistake. I also had to revert the
addition of an install file that actually caused the package to FTBFS.
That was mildly irritating as it suggested that the check-in to trunk
wasn't tested, but is explained by Marco's relative newness to SVN.

Marco: I'm not following the situation with regards your SVN access, but
assuming you have it back now (or in the future), would you mind making
commits into a branch? I'll happily cherry-pick them across to trunk,
and I just ask this whilst you get to grips with SVN.

As for the other changes that are not committed, there's no real rush on
package uploads at the moment, so I'd like to wait until the next
version for those, and get them into SVN first (so someone else can test
them too).

I've read that you accept that your svn commit access has been revoked,
so I guess that there were good reasons. I have not verified that, but
all involved parties seem to agree on this.

If this package is being maintained in svn, then the best way to get
your changes included, is by submitting patches in the bug tracking
system.

See above, I suggest that you submit a patch to the bug tracking system.

Regain trust by submitting well tested patches in the bug tracking
system, is probably a good start.

The good thing is that you seem to be motivated to contribute to Debian,
and it really OK to make some mistakes while learning. I still remember
the horrible mistakes I've made myself, and fortunately I had good
sponsors with lots of patience. :)

Hope this helps,

Bart Martens

So you uploaded a hijack package to mentors and are deliberately
offering stuff for sponsoring that is *not* in the svn, and don't think
you should get back to us because of that _first_?

Please stop thinking but start being sure. If the addition is missing
from the changelog and you are thus unsure about who did it it should
get added there, and the svn log is able to make you sure who did add
it.

With the above hijack try of the package you lost even more trust than
you had done through some silly mistakes, and I hope that noone is going
to sponsor that package before this additional mess is solved.

 So long,
Rhonda

After all the recent discussions in the Games Team list [1] [2] [3],
I'm not sure to understand this RFS. I'm not sure if Marco is aware of
the mailing thread about some of his commits to SVN, or if the current
uploaders for prboom are aware of this request for sponsorship, but
I'm really quite lost about all this, so I felt like forwarding it to
the Games Team list might clarify the situation.

RFS: prboom (updated package)

2007-10-30 Thread Marco Rodrigues
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 2:2.4.7+dfsg-1
of my package "prboom".

It builds these binary packages:
prboom - clone of the legendary first person shooter Doom

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 426804, 447012

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/prboom
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/prboom/prboom_2.4.7+dfsg-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Marco Rodrigues

Re: RFS: prboom (updated package)

Hello there,

Hehe, as you add yourself to the list of Uploaders this will be "your"
package soon. :) However, this addition occurs silently, without being
reflected in the changelog, which IMHO shouldn't happen.
I take it that you, being a member of the Games Team and all, have
checked this addition with the rest of the team, but I can't find
anything about this in the listarchives. Hm, the last time prboom was
mentioned was when Jon's packaging on which your packaging appears to
be based was reviewed in August ...

Some further points:

- why 2:2.4.7*+dfsg*-1 when the orig.tar.gz is identical content-wise to
upstream's tarball? It appears the new fix_upstream.sh wasn't run /
  didn't work as intended.
- do you know why upstream went back to older autotools and put outdated
config.{guess, sub} in the tarball? Just wondering...
- part of the fix for bug#404826 was to use the configure option
--disable-dogs, but this option has been stripped upstream from 2.4.7.
Won't this re-open the bug now?
- fix_upstream.sh references base.png, but there's only a base.sng.
- why bumping the B-D versions on the libsdl packages (and libsmpeg,
fwiw, even though it's not documented in the changelog)? At a first
glance I couldn't see any code changes that demand such a bump. It
seems you just entered the versions as present in Etch...?
- falling back from Standards-Version 3.7.2.1 to 3.7.2 isn't documented
  either.

First tests didn't show any showstoppers regarding functionality.

Well, I'm interested in sponsoring this, but I'm afraid there are too
many open questions at the moment. Please comment on them so I get the
picture.

Cheers,
Flo
