old world nonsense, please rectify

2006-10-21 Thread brian
i was figuring there was something wrong with
the 2.6.15 kernel. why it was deleted from
the debian archives when some old world power
macs still need it, and nobody responding to
any of my postings here.

but today i find this:
http://packages.ubuntulinux.org/dapper/base/linux-image-2.6.15-23-powerpc

so why am i still booting 2.6.15-1 in debian ?

Re: Screen blackout-theme Bug

2006-10-21 Thread brian

it would be best if you upgrade one to etch
and if the bug persists then report it. as
etch is due to be release shortly, the
most attention to bug fixing would be there/now,
and much less chance the sarge bug gets
fixed from here on.

particularly if the use includes any computer
science teaching, etch is much more recent, and
the xorg switch from xfree is much more reliable
and maintainable (another reason sarge bug
unlikely to get fixed here).

i would think it should run fine on these,
as 2001 imac is other than lack of g4, pretty
much of current generation (my neighbor has one
with macosX.4 tiger on it, appears fine).

i assume you know how to do upgrade. particularly
of just the kernel, X, gnome and support files
in order to test ?

Thank you. I googled fwcutter and found this Ubuntu page and followed its
instructions.(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Dapper)
However do I need a 2.6.17+ or can I use the bcm43xx driver on learlier
kernels such as 2.6.15? Things look well but I can't test my connection
because I do not know if my base station extream or the powerbook airport card
just went bad :(. I may have to run to the apple store to use their wireless
network to find out if it the card or the base station.

Until then I can't do much. But in linux the driver did load and I can see it
in iwconfig.

Thanks for your help

The trouble is that you haven't used fwcutter to extract the bcm43xx firmware
of your mac osx drivers... try (apt-cache search) fwcutter.

ça fait longtemps que je cherchai, mais j'ai trouvé le bon réglage pour ça:
dans powerprefs que je venais d'installer grace à un thread sur les
forums gentoo:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/fr/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#laptoppkgs

option "notap" dans input device.

Pour le probleme de capslock, j'ai fait une traduction en Anglais ici même.

X is using the framebuffer driver.I'm running on an old iMac(2001) with the latest firmware(also 2001) with the hard drive taken over by the installer. If you need anymore info or know who to direct my email to, please let me know. Bonjour spoutnik,

If you look in the archives of this thread, you will find long
discussions about the "xkb-data" package in which the keyboards are
defined. I do not know if you can test the improved package
without upgrading Xfree to Xorg, but soon you may be likely to do so
anyway, when Etch is released. I think that much work has been made on
the french keyboard.

Bonne chance,

Trouble with MOL networking

2006-10-21 Thread Francesco Pedrini
Hi list,

I'm expiriencing some problem with networking on MOL.
I've installed the recent MOL packages from unstable (0.9.71~pre9) with
tiger support, Os X boot and run fine, but doesn't recognise any
network interface.
I've followed the benh howto [1], the tun device is created, from Debian
I can ping the address of tun but from macos i don't have any interface
nor IP...

On Debian my network interface is the wifi card, can that cause a
problem like the one i have?

Thanks in advance, friendly,
Francesco

Comments/Problems:

beta2 (and the sarge installer) work well, but neither the dailies nor beta3
boots. Screenshots attached. (Both are after selecting install, expert or
rescue.) The dailys fail with:

RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
RAMDISK: ran out of compressed data
Invalid compressed format (err=1)
No filesystem could mount root, tried: cramfs
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount roos fs on unknown-block(1,0)

I'm not making this serious atm, as I have seen beta3 booting successfully on
a g4 powerbook...

BTW, booting fails slightly different, after uprading a sarge system to etch,
no matter if I use a 2.6.17 (from etch) or .18 kernel (from sid). Screenshot
also attached.

regards,
Holger
