Re: Problem: update hell: apt-get gives segmentation fault consistently
Dear Mungo, No special treatment for newbies aside from recommending the essay 'How to Ask Questions the Right Way' in the case of obtuse questioners. You don't match that, so I'll go right into troubleshooting. Please post your /etc/apt/sources.list file - 'testing' used to be the same as 'lenny', but has not been since 14 feburuary when lenny was declared stable, with version 5.0. I'm imagining two sources in the file mismatching somehow. [ snip ] So how do I extricate myself out of this mire: I'd love to obtain a working apt-get that doesn't hit a segmentation violation, but the only mechanism I know of to get a new version is to use the existing (broken) apt-get, hence I am in catch 22 situation! [ snip ] you could always manually wget the latest apt-get package (and its dependancies) and and use dpkg to install them - but let's save that howto for if it's actually needed. For sites like youtube (admittedly, not tested recently on ppc - I haven't booted my G5 for a while) it is still a bit hit-and-miss. e.g. a couple of days ago I found a link to a Pt1 of an old film - didn't do anything, but Pt2 of the same film was fine. FWIW, I also tried swfdec on x86 - it crashed (self-compiled) firefox twice. ĸen -- das eine Mal als Tragödie, das andere Mal als Farce -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-powerpc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. You need help with what, exactly? wpa_supplicant - and the orinoco driver, by extension - appear to be working correctly. I'm assuming because you executed wpa_supplicant manually, you didn't run dhclient eth1 to obtain a DHCP lease after association, in order for an IP address to be assigned to this wireless interface. Run ifup eth1 instead, as this will call both wpa_supplicant and dhclient as necessary. See also interfaces(5).
