I am trying to look for a decent FLOSS VOIP software that

try wengophone[1] (it's already packaged (lenny + unstable)
it supports Win/Mac/GNULinux

Oh now I see. You can manipulate OpenFirmware, but I don't really know how.
I guess you can find some guides on the net.

Well, you can also be inspired by these yaboot.conf's

Hi, Jack,

I have problems with the network configuration [ibook G4 2004+Sid]
today after I updated [1] yesterday,

when I switch on the computer an error message appears while loading
IPv6:

: eth0: no IPv6 routers present

so I restarted the networking service

 # /etc/init.d/networking restart

and now I can reply to your mail ;-)

(without rebooting ;-)

cheers,

Giovanni

P.S.

If you have a better understanding of the package responsible
for that behaviour would you please file a bug? I will do it
late in the afternoon.

[1] well I have to check which package I updated yesterday...
but I removed the files in the cache :-( and now I'm in
a hurry.

Hi, Domenico,

Please, don't ;-)

Next time, please try[1]:

# loadkeys /usr/share/keymap/..??.perhaps_mac./it-something.gz

to load a console map that will suit you -sorry I don't remember which
keymap corresponds to the it-qzerty, but I'm pretty sure I saw it.

I opened a bug against kbd-chooser of the D-I that doesn't
allow a user to choose properly its keymap:

gtkpbbuttonsd-gnome 0.6.8-2 brightness pop-up

2006-01-18 Thread Giovanni Ridolfi
Hello everybody,
I've a ibook G4 (PowerBook6,5)

I'm running sid, Gnome 2.12 + linux-image-2.6.15-2
+ gtkpbbuttonsd-gnome 0.6.8-2

When i press Fn+[F1,F2] I
both cannot change the brightness level of my LCD
and the small popup window does not appear
(whereas I can change the speaker volume and also when I eject a
CD the pop up windows appear).

Any hints?
-) RTFM
-) install gtkpbbuttonsd
-) fill a bug report
-) do some debugging how?

TIA

Giovanni

error IO in /tmp

2004-11-19 Thread Giovanni Ridolfi
Hi to everyone,

I'm running sid on a ibook G4 white.

After today's update my user doesn't have access to /tmp,
so I can't run either mutt or firefox anymore :-(
I can run them as root without problems.
Moreover I've just found a temporary solution (bleah) by
writing in the file /etc/profile the line:
export TMPDIR=~

I'd like to know if there is a cleaner solution.
What kind of debugginig should I do?

TIA

is your /tmp got drwxrwxrwt mode (farther left column) ?
yes
if not run chmod 01777 /tmp as root, it should do the job.
done, just to be sure ;-), but nothing changes.

If I try to open/save a message my mail editors give this error:
1) emacs:
IO error writing /tmp/mut No space left on device
2) vim:
error opening swap file
error in writing, full file system?

forgotten root password

2004-08-27 Thread Giovanni Ridolfi
Hi to everyone,
I've installed sarge on my ibook, but
I had some keymap problems
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=266691

and an annoying message that forced me to change
root's and my user's passwords [1]
([1] By the way is my password too weak or it is
a bug in the login(?) program?)
So I've forgotten root's password.
Which string shall I pass to yaboot to have a shell...
an then...
mount /dev/hda3
and erase root's password from /etc/shadow?

Thank you very much,
regards

Giovanni

init=/bin/sh
It doesn't work :-(

I have yaboot 1.3.13, and this is my screen output

boot: init=/bin/sh
Please wait, loading kernel...

it seems to be again at the beginning.
