i2c i2c-2: I2C write to 0x2d failed, err -27 on Xserve G5

2015-09-04 Thread Nick Schmalenberger
Hi all,
I have a Xserve G5, and its running well except for these
messages that keep spamming dmesg:
[Sep 4 19:11] i2c i2c-2: I2C write to 0x2d failed, err -27
[Sep 4 19:29] i2c i2c-2: I2C write to 0x2d failed, err -27
[Sep 4 20:04] i2c i2c-2: I2C write to 0x2d failed, err -27
[Sep 4 20:29] i2c i2c-2: I2C write to 0x2d failed, err -27

My full dmesg is attached, is this a known problem? Thanks!

Grub does exist for powerpc, grub2
http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/grub2.html but as that page says it has
an unsatisfiable dependency right now for powerpc so its broken. Has
there been any progress on this since:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2007/10/msg00057.html
? I would still like to use it on my powerpcs. Thanks very much.

grub-of unresolvable dependency on powerpc-ibm-utils

2007-10-14 Thread Nick Schmalenberger
Hi,
I tried to install grub-of 1.95+20070828-2 but it depends on
powerpc-ibm-utils 1.0.6 which does not seem to be available anywhere in
debian. Is this known, is it a typo? I can file a bug report if
necessary. Thanks very much.

recording with burgundy sound card

2007-09-28 Thread Nick Schmalenberger
Hi,
My iMac Rev B has the same problem as in this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/65823
Is this reported in other places? Has it been solved?
If I increase the volume of the microphone in the recording tab of
alsamixer, I can make feedback, so it does physically work and is sort
of controllable, just not as a recording source.
Thanks, Nick

netbooting oldworld

2007-08-09 Thread Nick Schmalenberger
Hi,
Is there currently any way to netboot the installer on old world?
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/PowerPC/OldWorld/PreAlphaManualUpdates
suggests that it is possible but the installation manual doesn't have
clear instructions, section 4.6 mentioned on the wiki page doesn't
address old world, such as what boot loader to use. Could this
bootloader http://www.dialectronics.com/bootloader/ be made to work with
the debian linux initrds?
Thanks, Nick Schmalenberger

If you like the sound blaster, I think there is something called the
extigy you might like, and I think Creative Labs also has a Cardbus
sound card.

mysteriously changing mac address

2007-05-10 Thread Nick Schmalenberger
Hi,
I have a g3 imac running a stock 2.6.20-1-powerpc kernel, and it has
been up for 20 days. Today I noticed that it's mac address had changed
to 00:01:aa:00:04:00 from the apple address it has always been ( dmesg |
grep BMAC tells me: eth0: BMAC+ at 00:05:02:b7:63:d8 ). When I did
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:05:02:b7:63:d8 to change it back, it became
00:01:00:05:02:B7. The first 32 bits of my real mac address are stuck
onto the end of the field! Has anybody ever seen anything like this
before? The next thing I am going to try is what address it uses if I
reboot. Thanks for all help.
