Re: How to upgrade 6 - 7
Hello Im running testing on PowerPC since, I dont know half a year after squeeze came out... and before that it was the same after lenny and etch. Well I had a x86 then but the point is that, things can mess up, if you upgrade to testing, but its pretty unlikely ... but its possible. Wheezy is freezed so no new versions are running into it, so I think its pretty safe. Though you will get many packages-updates every other day in testing. I wouldnt upgrade to unstable (sid) either. Though sometimes in phases where eg a new kde or packages with many dependencies are merged from unstable to testing its a good idea to apt-pin unstable, so you can use packages from unstable, too. I have not reinstalled on my Powerbook G4, I think since Lenny. So I dist- upgraded from lenny to squeeze and then to wheezy. I think you should try to dist-upgrade. Because you have nothing to loose. In both cases you need to backup all your important data. If the dist-upgrade works you dont need to reinstall your system. What you read are mostly people who had problems with dist-upgrade, the many people who dist-upgraded without problems wont be found on mailing-lists. Because they didnt have problems. Thats media. There are not many success stories to be found in them, If you need a system that is _always_ stable I would stay with stable version. Because sometimes in early phases of testing (after a new release) many new packages are merged and you will have to fix some things. Sometimes in situations you really dont need it, because eg you dont have the time. But thats immanent with testing. Its not stable. E.g. half a year ago, I had a problem with akonadi. That led to Kmail not working anymore, so I couldnt use my email-program. So until I fixed it I had to use the webmailer. But I think this was my only mojor problem in some years (?!) of testing wheezy. When was squeeze released then? O my, time flies... greets Kai Am Sonntag 16 September 2012, 01:25:27 schrieb Logan Brown: Kristen, I would never recommend attempting a dist upgrade to unstable. If Windows 7 doesnt allow this try knoppix (maybe in a virtual machine) :) what a workaround Then you would get an internet connection to the powerbook and use the network install cd. greetz drz -- -- gpg fp: 5518 8F74 B2A0 E91A 6FAD 8AC8 C02C 6C6F C899 DC65 Public Key: http://rizzux.org/drz.asc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-powerpc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. kino on powerpc
Hi List Could anybody try to reproduce a crash in kino? Camcorder on firewire. I try to capture a video and when I press stop kino crashes. I dont know if its due to my kind of mixed Lenny/sid environment, because I use KDE 4.2.2, so I dont want to file a bug report just yet. The error is most of the time something like: Obtained 8 stack frames. kino [0x10030c88] [0x100344] [0x49a46869] /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6(_ZdlPv+0x2c) [0xeabebbc] /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6(_ZdaPv+0x24) [0xeabec34] kino(_Z16showScenesThreadPv+0xc24) [0x100d4e44] /lib/libpthread.so.0 [0xed6de24] /lib/libc.so.6(clone+0x84) [0xe839630] Done dumping - exiting. Re: flashplugin and nspluginwrapper + qemu
OK, I found the Better Youtube Addon in Iceweasel. That worked with every video so far ;) Its downloading the video from flashload first. Dont know, if this is a breach of so-called intellectual property, but nevermind. Nothing for the impatient though ;) greetz drz -- -- gpg fp: 5518 8F74 B2A0 E91A 6FAD 8AC8 C02C 6C6F C899 DC65 Public Key: http://rizzux.org/drz.asc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-powerpc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. But that computer doesnt freeze, when enabling Desktop effects. So my guess is, its a general radeon+kde4.2.2 problem (maybe not powerpc specific), despite the fact the log doesnt give any hints. I can provide any other log if needed. Thx for your response, I thought it was appropriate to post in paste.debian.net. I can send it via email, too, if needed. You have to install b43-fwcutter, which will (normally) download and install it. You can look at the archive of this list for more information, quite a lot of people had this problem. Thx got it working! Yeah, but I had a problem with my D-Link AP900+ that didnt work in macosx at first either, but after updating macosx with all airport updates it worked. But debian didnt connect, but I was warned. xorg.conf powerbook g4 kde 4.2.2
Hi there Im really happy to have gotten a powerbook g4, was a PC user before. And lenny works great. No installation issues. Good work! Maybe I should add that I encryted the whole system with the installer. 1. I havent worked on getting the wireless to go. Any Links to HOWTOs are welcome. 2. Does anybody have a working xorg.conf for a powerbook g4 with ati 9700 (rv350)? I cant enable Desktop effects on kde 4.2.2 :( If I enable effects the xserver freezes and so I cant even get into the console by alt-ctrl-f1. Turning the computer off is the only solution. Direct Rendering worked out of the box, but I dont really know how to get compositing to work. I also have a problem with the colours in kde. Some blue colours like the default K-Menu-symbol is some kind of orange :) I just changed the driver to radeon in xorg.conf yet. Oh, and I set UseFBdev to false after having a problem with weird fonts in tty1 when i stopped gdm. $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf [snip] Section InputDevice Identifier Generic Keyboard Driver kbd Option XkbRules xorg Option XkbModel pc105 Option XkbLayout de Option XkbVariantnodeadkeys Option XkbOptionslv3:lwin_switch EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Configured Mouse Driver mouse EndSection Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver radeon BusID PCI:0:16:0 Option UseFBDev false EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Configured Monitor EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor EndSection 3. Is it possible to scroll or right click without an external mouse on the touchpad? Im thankful for every comment or links on this and the wireless installation. greetz drz -- gpg fp: 5518 8F74 B2A0 E91A 6FAD 8AC8 C02C 6C6F C899 DC65 Public Key: http://rizzux.org/drz.asc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-powerpc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
