Yes, pbbuttonsd counts the cycles by itself and no, except you have told
pbbuttonsd one year ago to count the cycles.

I thought pbbuttonsd counts the cycles itself. Can pbbuttons tell me the
count of charging cycles now after a year?

Well, that's the count done by pbbuttons itself, but I suspect there is
a HW count. There is also a way to differenciate different batteries (a
battery ID). We need to figure out what PMU commands provide these
informations.

Ben.

The PMU driver is not open source in driver unfortunately. It may be
possible to dig into the disassembly and figure out what command is used
though.

Very interesting... Benjamin, is there any chance to find some code in
Darwin for that ? I really hope they didn't keep that
proprietary... (and would be interested in knowing whether this works
on a rev1 PB too)

Maybe it'd give me some information on the real state of my batteries,
because I just can't believe they degraded so fast.

Pbbuttond does this if enabled. See option batlog.

Pbbuttonsd has an option you might like (quoting pbbutonsd.conf(5)):

batlog = battery log mode (default: none)
Setting this option to one of the following values activates some
sort of battery data logging.

none: disable battery data logging

cycle: Pbbuttonsd counts the battery cycles so that it would be pos-
sible to estimate batteries lifetime. Usually Li-Ion batter-
ies allow 500 charge/discharge cycles.

log: Pbbuttonsd writes detailed battery data like current charge,
voltage, time remaining, etc. on a regularly time basis to a
log file. Also charge/discharge cycles will be counted and
displayed. Each charge/discharge cycle gets its own battery
log file. This data should allow investigation of a battery
ageing. This option includes the cycle option.

Hi,

I saw OS X can show the count of charge cycles. Can we have this in Linux
too?
