But basically, if a website has something in flash, its content is not important. Or at least, for the creators of the page, users and their rights are not important. Which is a good enough reason not to visit such pages. -- In the GNU Project, discrimination against proprietary software is not just a policy -- it's the principle and the purpose. I read that the browser plugin is now getting usable, but haven't tried. Check out www.gnu.org for the exact location (or try the package in experimental). Personally I consider flash synonym for "we don't want your attention or money"[1] which is perfectly fine with me. One is swf-player, the other is never, but i never tested it and didn't remember the name. swf-player is not really working for the newer flash stuff, but it may work for some. Another solution is to get the linux x86 version of the Macromedia plug-in running within qemu. Some folks [0] did it with version 6 of the player. The only alternative is to find truckloads of cash, and then convince macromedia (now bought by adobe) to do a powerpc/linux build of it. Now, with apple leaving the powerpc market, this is even less likely to happen. So, if you are disatisfied with the powerpc/flash situation, get beyond one of the free flash projects. Unfortunately flash although not great, is very pervasive across the net. Its absence in ppc linux is fairly remarkable and compares badly with the status of flash for i386 Yes, I have tried the alternatives, basically i think they are not worth the hassle. d Jeremiah Benham wrote: On Thu, Jul 13, 2006 at 04:54:06AM -0400, Chasecreek Systemhouse wrote: =\ Is it me or has the use of Windows as a "great" graphics platform now surpassed Apple? Flash < v7 compatible?
=\ Is it me or has the use of Windows as a "great" graphics platform now surpassed Apple? I mean I understand that the flash which is available is not as feature rich as that which is available for Windows but is there some way to get a faster development cycle -- maybe shoot for Flash version 8 compatibilty before we all die?
