Questions about powerpc debian build process

2008-01-04 Thread Li Yang
Hi all,

I have some newbie questions regarding the build process of powerpc Debian.

Is the distribution built by native compiler or cross compiler? Is the build
script and it's configuration publicly available? And can it be easily
modified to build for another platform(such as changing to use a new toolchain)?

Thanks a lot for your kind help.

Hello,

with the occasional exception of arm, the builds for all platforms are
native in Debian. The build script is publicly available:
http://packages.debian.org/sbuild. I do not know if the information of
which version is used on the build machines is publically available.

Importantly, there are alternatives to sbuild, depending on what you
exactly you want to do. For instance cowbuilder (in the cowdancer
package) or rebuildd.

Lastly, there is nothing specific to powerpc (Debian is the universal
OS). So you may have a better feedback on debian-user, debian-mentors
or debian-devel, depending on the difficulty, purpose and general
interest of your work.

Have a nice day
