Re: can not launch xfree86 on debian linux on ibook G3
Hi! * Jason Pope [EMAIL PROTECTED] [060222 20:32]: I am having the same problem. Did you ever resolve your issue? I know it was 3 years ago, but it is worth a try. When answering to that old mails without setting proper reference or In-Reply-To-Header to the mail, it might be a good idea to state the nature of the problem more detailed... Re: can not launch xfree86 on debian linux on ibook G3
Hi, Danzer: thanks for your reply! is it the MUST to make xfree86 work on ibook that to install the drm-trunk-modules-src? or it 's just an option? This unresolved symbles problem comes when I install the drm-trunk-module-*.deb with command dpkg -i drm-trunk-module-*.deb in my case it was fine to install x-window stuff and xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk, xlibmesa3-dri-trynk with the command: apt-get install x-window-system-core x-window-system and apt-get install drm-trunk-module-src xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk xlibmesa3-dri-trunk after this failure when i did dpkg-i-drm-trunk-module-*.deb then I do startx the screen turn to black ( grey actually) immidiately and hunged. i have to powerdown with power botton , but next time when I boot the linux, it tried to start the X and run into the same problem.( screen trun to black and machine hunged). I searched some mail-list about installation of debian linux on ibook 3, I found another guy run in to the problem of unresolved symblies in gamma.o and fixed that with changing XF86Config-4 ( add the option Chipset ATI range which is defirent from mine) I tried to do like that but it didn't work either. now I am out of ideas any suggestion is wellcomed thanks yignbiao On Friday, May 16, 2003, at 11:31 AM, Michel Dänzer wrote: On Fri, 2003-05-16 at 03:03, yingbiao su wrote: HI, Thank you, I followed the procedure of installation of Xfree86 4.2 step by step , but unformtunitly, The last step, install the driver, with dpkg -I *deb it failed and got following error massage: Unpacking replacement drm-trunk-module-2.4.20-ben10 ... The latter, it's only required for the DRI. then I do startx the screen turn to black ( grey actually) immidiately and hunged. IIRC this happens on some iBooks if the agpgart kernel module isn't loaded (make sure to load it before the radeon module) I searched some mail-list about installation of debian linux on ibook 3, I found another guy run in to the problem of unresolved symblies in gamma.o and fixed that with changing XF86Config-4 Huh? XF86Config-4 doesn't have anything to do with those unresolved symbols, which are harmless as I pointed out. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer \ Debian (powerpc), XFree86 and DRI developer Software libre enthusiast \ http://svcs.affero.net/rm.php?r=daenzer

Re: can not launch xfree86 on debian linux on ibook G3
Don't you also need to get the dri-trunk modules of Daenzer? (I had to when I installed it but don't know if the newer benh kernels need this or not.) Please check one of the installation websites.. just search on google for install debian ibook and you should be able to get to those.. nirmal On Wednesday 14 May 2003 23:41 pm, suyb wrote: HI, thanks, It does help, but still there is new problem: After I install the new driver, there is no No devices detected problem anymore, but when I try to launch xfree86 with X or starx, the screen become grey immidiately, and no response any more, even could not switch to console. any ideas, thanks yingbiao
