When answering to that old mails without setting proper reference or

Where does it say 'error'? This is harmless because you don't need the
gamma module.

I noticed that when I did
 Apt-get install x-window-system-core x-window-system

The version of x-window-system is 4.1.8 or something like that
 Is it the reason?

Hardly (even though that would be a funny version), though it depends
what the problem is. :)

Hi, Danzer:

  thanks for your reply!

is it the MUST to make xfree86 work on ibook that to install the
drm-trunk-modules-src? or it 's just an option?

This unresolved symbles problem comes when I install the
drm-trunk-module-*.deb with command dpkg -i drm-trunk-module-*.deb

in my case
it was fine to install x-window stuff and xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk,
xlibmesa3-dri-trynk with the command: apt-get install
x-window-system-core x-window-system and
apt-get install drm-trunk-module-src xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk
xlibmesa3-dri-trunk

after this failure when i did dpkg-i-drm-trunk-module-*.deb

then I do startx the screen turn to black ( grey actually)
immidiately and hunged.
i have to powerdown with power botton , but next time when I boot the
linux, it tried to start the X and run into the same problem.( screen
trun to black and machine hunged).

I searched some mail-list about installation of debian linux on ibook
3, I found another guy run in to the problem of unresolved symblies in
gamma.o and fixed that with changing XF86Config-4 ( add the option
Chipset ATI range which is defirent from mine)

I tried to do like that but it didn't work either.

now I am out of ideas
any suggestion is wellcomed

thanks

The latter, it's only required for the DRI.

IIRC this happens on some iBooks if the agpgart kernel module isn't
loaded (make sure to load it before the radeon module)

Huh? XF86Config-4 doesn't have anything to do with those unresolved
symbols, which are harmless as I pointed out.

You need to update your XServer.
See for example:

Don't you also need to get the dri-trunk modules of Daenzer? (I had to when I
installed it but don't know if the newer benh kernels need this or not.)
Please check one of the installation websites.. just search on google for
install debian ibook and you should be able to get to those..
