My wild guess is that this is a (past or present) foomatic bug that caused it to call ghostscript without specifying a driver (so it defaulted to x11) in some circumstance. At any rate, the reporter didn't say what foomatic version was in use and whether it was an intermittent problem --- so we do not even have enough information to say if it is reproducible. :/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-printing-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". It is a four-page leaflet printed on a single two-sided A4 sheet. If you pass it through ps2pdf, the generated pdf file has two problems: 1) it is shown badly on both gv and xpdf, that is, it appears rotated by 90 degrees. Don't know if this is a bug in ps2pdf or gv/xpdf. 2) it is shown correctly on Acrobat Reader for Linux, but when printed from there the NoTumble option does not work, i.e., the back of the sheet is printed upside down. -- System Information Debian Release: 3.0 Kernel Version: Linux pot.cnuce.cnr.it 2.4.18 #1 Fri May 17 13:44:40 CEST 2002 i686 unknown Versions of the packages gs-common depends on: ii debconf1.0.32 Debian configuration management system ii debianutils1.16 Miscellaneous utilities specific to Debian. ii defoma 0.11.0 Debian Font Manager -- automatic font config ii gs 6.53-3 The Ghostscript Postscript interpreter ii gsfonts6.0-2 Fonts for the ghostscript interpreter --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- thanks On Fri, Feb 4, 2011 at 6:10 PM, Francesco Potortì wrote: >>tags 149098 + unreproducible >>tags 149098 + moreinfo >>thanks >> >>This debian bug is unreproducible. An example of this is the "r" character in the concrete Type 1 fonts (I can supply a pfb file if necessary). Look at the two files that I have included in this email. The first is a postscript file generated by TeX; the second is the PDF generated from the first file by ps2pdf. Compare the r's in the two files. As you can see, the r's in the second file looks different from the first. Apparently, something goes wrong at the tip of the "r." The tip is not generated completely, which throws off the rest of the letter. This causes the base to be fatter than normal, since the outline is not traced correctly. Note that PDFs generated by Acrobat distiller do not have this defect; therefore, the font itself is not at fault. Also, if the pfb file is edited (say with the pfaedit program) and the outline of the "r" character is changed from being drawn in a clockwise direction to a counterclockwise direction (with no other changes), the resulting PDF file generated by ps2pdf does not have this defect. - Brian -- System Information Debian Release: 3.0 Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux ariel 2.4.17 #1 Tue Mar 12 11:00:40 EST 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages gs depends on: ii gs-common 0.3.2 Common files for different Ghostsc ii libc6 2.2.5-3GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgimpprint1 4.2.0-4library necessary to use gimp-prin ii libpaperg 1.1.7 Library for handling paper charact ii libpng2 1.0.12-3 PNG library - runtime ii xlibs 4.1.0-14 X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g1:1.1.4-1 compression library - runtime psKYPZc9EOcj.ps Description: Postscript file pdfv9mT2rUETU.pdf Description: PDF output of ps2pdf --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Package: ghostscript Version: 8.71~dfsg2-9 Work here --- End Message ---
