Package: gs

Some times the -dQUIET and -q options are ignored. This is a problem
when - is used as the output file name.

This not critical. Attached script sends it to a file rather than - to
get around this.

I like this program and use it in the remote sites so we have device
independent queues there.

Application servers have lpr script that is alias for rlpr, but applies
application specific filters to produce a device and application
independent stream.

There was no spurious output with the above output.
Did look like a component was making noise on FD 1.

Yes, I can render the file just fine, too (i386, ghostscript-x
8.71~dfsg2-9).

I wonder if http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=689340 is
related. Any idea what could be different between the machines that
reproduce it and the ones that don't?

It is amazing to see the bug list being separated between confirmed
and unconfirmed --- thanks very much for this.

My wild guess is that this is a (past or present) foomatic bug that
caused it to call ghostscript without specifying a driver (so it
defaulted to x11) in some circumstance. At any rate, the reporter
didn't say what foomatic version was in use and whether it was an
intermittent problem --- so we do not even have enough information to
say if it is reproducible. :/

Package: gs-common
Version: 0.3.3
Severity: normal

The file http://softwarelibero.it/documentazione/softwarelibero.ps has
been generated using the DuplexNoTumble option, and in fact it prints
correctly on a Postscript printer. It is a four-page leaflet printed
on a single two-sided A4 sheet.

If you pass it through ps2pdf, the generated pdf file has two problems:
1) it is shown badly on both gv and xpdf, that is, it appears rotated
by 90 degrees. Don't know if this is a bug in ps2pdf or gv/xpdf.
2) it is shown correctly on Acrobat Reader for Linux, but when printed
from there the NoTumble option does not work, i.e., the back of the
   sheet is printed upside down.

This is a (possible) solution to that reported bug #139892.

NOTE: The ps2epsi script in gs-common itself is also broken. There is no
white-space between a pair of arguments to a `sed' command on either
side of a \ continuation marker. This was reported in #153182. I can
send a trivial patch for that if required.

The ps2epsi procedule within ps2epsi.ps command invokes a security fix too
early, making the ps2epsi command fail with an /invalidaccess error.

The fix incorporated in later versions of ghostscript involved moving the
line

  //systemdict /.setsafe known { .setsafe } if

to the end of the procedure as per the following patch.

can you change the script pdf2ps, so that it reads from the stdin? It
only can write to stdout, but it will better if it can read from stdin,

If a ps-figure is larger than A4 the BoundingBox reported by
ps2epsi is too small. It seems that the largest BoundingBox
reported is just the A4 papersize.

I suggest that the ps2epsi script be corrected by adding the option
-sPAPERSIZE=a0 to the 'gs' command (called in ps2epsi). Even though
this does not solve the problem in general, it solves the problem
for most cases, since a ps-figure larger than a0 might be not so
common. Maybe there is a better way to do it...

  I am using Debian GNU/Linux 2.2.

Making PDF files with ps2pdf does not handle certain Type 1 postscript
fonts correctly. An example of this is the "r" character in the
concrete Type 1 fonts (I can supply a pfb file if necessary). Look
at the two files that I have included in this email. The first is a
postscript file generated by TeX; the second is the PDF generated from
the first file by ps2pdf. Compare the r's in the two files. As you
can see, the r's in the second file looks different from the first.
Apparently, something goes wrong at the tip of the "r." The tip is not
generated completely, which throws off the rest of the letter. This
causes the base to be fatter than normal, since the outline is not
traced correctly.

Note that PDFs generated by Acrobat distiller do not have this defect;
therefore, the font itself is not at fault. Also, if the pfb file
is edited (say with the pfaedit program) and the outline of the "r"
character is changed from being drawn in a clockwise direction to a
counterclockwise direction (with no other changes), the resulting PDF
file generated by ps2pdf does not have this defect.

Package: apsfilter
Version: 4.9.1-10

I have a number of postscript files that apsfilter cannot print to my
deskjet (only happens with some .ps files, mostly color, all print properly
on my ljfour). I have traced the problem to rewindstdin:

1. gs previews them fine.
2. gs segfaults if I use the command line:

   gs -q -sDEVICE=cdj550 -sPAPERSIZE=letter -dNOPUASE -dSAFER\
 -sOutputFile=- - --- End Message ---
--- Begin Message ---
Package: ghostscript
Version: 8.71~dfsg2-9

I have tested using the original file and it works
gs -q -sDEVICE=cdj550 -sPAPERSIZE=letter -dNOPUASE -dSAFER
-sOutputFile=/dev/null < file.ps

Therefore close this old bug
