cups-filters is ultimately to blame for this: It relied on undocumented
pseudo-postscript calls recently removed from Ghostscript because they
turned out to cause security issues.

The bug should be fixed in a recent update to cups-filters.

Thanks for reporting. Next time you file a bugreport, it helps if you
try check for existing bugs first, including bugs that "affects" the
package you intend to file a bug against.

Regards,

 - Jonas

Bug#926836: libgs9 and libgs9-common 9.27~dfsg-1 break printing: 'Printer State:' is 'Idle - Filter failed'

2019-04-11 Thread Rob Oosterling

Package: libgs9 and libgs9-common

Version: 9.27~dfsg-1

After upgrading to said version, printing stops working (Brother HL-1430).

Error message:  'Printer State:' is 'Idle - Filter failed'.

From Cups error log:

GPL Ghostscript 9.27: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
Process is dying with \"Unable to determine number of pages, page count: -1
\", exit stat 3

Reverting to version libgs9_9.26a~dfsg-2_amd64 and
libgs9-common_9.26a~dfsg-2_all resolved the issue.
