Bug#465168: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the newpki-server package
Dear maintainer of newpki-server and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the newpki-server Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs de es fr ja pt ru sv Among these, the following translations are incomplete: If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the newpki-server package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Sunday, April 18, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Wednesday, April 07, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Monday, April 12, 2010 : send this notice Sunday, April 18, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Monday, April 19, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Monday, April 26, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR , YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid "" msgstr "" "Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n" "Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: chiffl...@cpe.fr\n" "POT-Creation-Date: 2007-01-17 23:15+0100\n" "PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n" "Last-Translator: FULL NAME \n" "Language-Team: LANGUAGE \n" "MIME-Version: 1.0\n" "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n" "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n" #. Bug#485162: marked as done (newpki-client: FTBFS when converted to new source format 3.0 (quilt): patch depends on changes from the diff.gz)
Your message dated Sun, 11 Apr 2010 19:36:08 + with message-id and subject line Bug#485162: fixed in newpki-client 2.0.0+rc1-6 has caused the Debian Bug report #485162, regarding newpki-client: FTBFS when converted to new source format 3.0 (quilt): patch depends on changes from the diff.gz to be marked as done. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 485162: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=485162 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: newpki-client Version: 2.0.0+rc1-3 Severity: minor Usertags: 3.0-quilt-by-default To prepare a possible switch to the new source package format "3.0 (quilt)" [1], I converted all source packages and tried to rebuild them. Unfortunately, newpki-client failed, you can try yourself with those commands (and dpkg-dev >= 1.14.19 [2]) : $ apt-get source newpki-client $ sed -i -e '/^Source:/ aFormat: 3.0 (quilt)' newpki-client-2.0.0+rc1/debian/control $ dpkg-source -b newpki-client-2.0.0+rc1 $ dpkg-source -x newpki-client_2.0.0+rc1-3.dsc $ cd newpki-client-2.0.0+rc1 && debuild -us -uc In this process, if the .diff.gz contains changes to upstream files, dpkg-source will have created a corresponding patch in debian/patches/debian-changes-2.0.0+rc1-3 and will have registered that patch in a quilt series (debian/patches/series, it is created if needed). All the patches listed in the "series" file are applied directly during the extraction (dpkg-source -x). quilt itself is used if available (and will thus lead to the creation of the .pc directory), otherwise dpkg-source applies the patches by itself. For more information about the new source package format see the manual page dpkg-source(1). In the case of newpki-client, some patches of the quilt series rely on changes contained in the .diff.gz. Please move those changes in the quilt series as well. With the new source format this fails because the new debian-changes-* patch gets applied _after_ the quilt series. As a side note, you must also pay attention to the following points in your quilt usage to guarantee compatibility with the new source package format: - all your patches must be applicable with the "-p1" option of patch (and you shouldn't use options in the series file to override this) - the patches must be in debian/patches/ together with the "series" file (you can use QUILT_PATCHES=debian/patches if needed) - you should not override QUILT_PC to change the location of quilt's internal directory (".pc" by default) - the patches should not reference absolute filenames (in +++/--- lines) - your clean target must work even if the patches are already applied - your build target must work with patches applied even if the clean target is supposed to unapply them (because dpkg-source -b might have applied them back) Cheers, [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2008/04/msg4.html [2] the upcoming dpkg-dev 1.14.20 is more tolerant with patches, you can grab it here if you want to try with that version: http://people.debian.org/~hertzog/packages/dpkg-dev_1.14.20_all.deb -- Raphael Hertzog --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: newpki-client Source-Version: 2.0.0+rc1-6 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of newpki-client, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: newpki-client_2.0.0+rc1-6.debian.tar.gz to main/n/newpki-client/newpki-client_2.0.0+rc1-6.debian.tar.gz newpki-client_2.0.0+rc1-6.dsc to main/n/newpki-client/newpki-client_2.0.0+rc1-6.dsc newpki-client_2.0.0+rc1-6_amd64.deb to main/n/newpki-client/newpki-client_2.0.0+rc1-6_amd64.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. In http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2003/10/msg00019.html Manoj Srivastava pointed out that, "c2man has been dead upstream for years (which was, so far, not a problem), and does not work with modern C/C++ programs -- which _is_ a problem. The functionality has been superseded with packages like doxygen". He wanted to remove c2man back then (October 2003) but couldn't because some (but few) programs still used it. I'm now filing wishlist bugs on these three packages. Once you have migrated to doxygen (or something else), I will ask for the removal of c2man. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Version: 0.32.5-5+rm You filed the bug http://bugs.debian.org/313264 in Debian BTS against the package dmachinemon.
