Bug#992996: dbtoepub creates temporary directories unsecurely and unreliably

2021-08-25 Thread Shlomi Fish
Package: dbtoepub
Version: 0+svn9904-4

Hi all! This security/reliability patch is not present in Debian
stable's dbtoepub:

https://github.com/docbook/xslt10-stylesheets/commit/10c1f2e3a565c4799ec1106784c76f6cd7f2f2ea

As a result, my home site's `*.epub`s have been building unreliably.

I've reported the bug upstream and submitted the patch, as the issue
is reproducible from the git repository.

Description: Fix generation of C code for C++ compilers.
 AC_CHECK_LIB fails with a C++ compiler (e.g., g++) because
   #ifdef __cplusplus
   extern "C"
   #endif
 is missing in the generated C code. There 3 lines were removed
 in commit 326c9a547423d25c621bc5c0ef76edbf6eda8c92 on 2020-10-09
 with the comment "(AC_LANG_CALL(C)): Remove #ifdef __cplusplus,
 this macro is no longer used to generate C++ code." but this is
 actually C code compiled with a C++ compiler, not C++ code.

Note: the error is

  undefined reference to `__gmpz_init()'

I've found the cause. With Autoconf 2.69, there was

#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C"
#endif

at the beginning of the test program generated by Autoconf.
This is no longer the case with Autoconf 2.71. A manual test
confirms that these 3 lines make the difference.

Bug#992981: autoconf: AC_CHECK_LIB no longer works with g++

2021-08-25 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: autoconf
Version: 2.71-2
Severity: important

When I want to build MPFR with g++, I get:

checking for __gmpz_init in -lgmp... no
configure: error: libgmp not found or uses a different ABI (including static vs
shared).

due to

dnl Check if we can link with GMP
AC_CHECK_LIB(gmp, __gmpz_init, [LIBS="-lgmp $LIBS"],
 [AC_MSG_ERROR([libgmp not found or uses a different ABI (including static vs
shared).
Please read the INSTALL file -- see "In case of problem".])])

in the configure.ac file.

This is a regression: this error disappears if I downgrade to
autoconf 2.69-14.

| could result in arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability is found
| in ssgLoadTGA() function in src/ssg/ssgLoadTGA.cxx file.

The severity of the this bug is set op purpose higher as it is
probably warranted. There is the following reason for that: plib is
orphaned in Debian for a while, it is obsoleted and unmaintained
upstream as well. Ideally it get's removed from Debian from the next
release, but thee would be some revers dependencies issues to be
solved, making it imposssible for now to remove the package:

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id in your changelog entry.
